As I walk closer and look in the window, angryly noticed that someone finally did it. They finally stole my AVIC Z-1. After taking a quick glance to see if anything else was stolen, I called the police. Yes they also took my bluetooth adapter and navtrafic receiver. They did leave the CD changer, game port, and other quite valuable items (I guess not valuable enough). So I filed a police report and the forensic fingerprinting unit came by to investigate. Besides minor damag

Yeah, $95.00 was pretty cheap. Want one?

    Installation Cost

My install was $65.00 for the Avic-Z1, which I bought from the shop that installed it. Their an Authorized dealer and I paid $1595.00 for the unit. I later added a Bluetooth unit for $95, plus $15.00 to install. btw, I'm in Eastern South Carolina.
  5. I live in South Carolina, and my car is parked outside in the sun all day with tempertures that reached this summer over 110 heat index. I know a couple times this summer when I started the SUV, the outside temp said it was 107....and, I have never had a problem with the Z1 over heating.
  6.
I know this subject has been discussed numerous times, and there is at least one work around I have read about (foam on the mic); however, after spending quite a while with Pioneer's helpless desk and driving the guy crazy with the echo (yes, I called them from the Hummer), the final decision was it was my phone. (Not sure if I believe this, since no one receives and echo when I use a logitech Bluetooth headphone.) However, what I'm trying to find out is has anyone experienced this echo, and replaced the phone and the echo disappears? I'm using an LG 8100 on Verizon
  7. "No just a phone, and not smart phones either. I think it's only headset protocol. " no, the PPC-6700 is a smart phone (Sprint) and it works perfectly with the bluetooth in the avic-z1.
  8. I know if I use my wifes phone (Samsung A920) and she's on the home wired phone there is no echo, but when I use my phone (PPC -6700) and I call her cell (Samsung A920), there is an echo. figure that one out.
  9. could you try something for me and see if your unit works like this: if you have an avic-z1 that can be bypassed, bypass it... go to the map... hit the talk button... say 'call'.... say 'phonebook'... where does the screen take you too? the phone book? mine doesn't.. it will only take you to the phone book, if your NOT in map mode.... if I do the above, while say in the AV mode with maybe FM listings...and press talk, then say 'call', then say 'phonebook', it goes to the phone book... just wondering if their all working like that
What kind of car is this in?
a 2003 Ford Explorer...the installers put it on the outside drivers side roof, and I didn't like it there, ducatiboy and 03Aviator both suggested to cut a 4 x 4 piece of metal 1/8 thick and glue it to the inside of the opening where the hu goes...ducatiboy mentioned that it's glued to the metal air vent or something. I would do that, but I'm not comfortable pulling the hu out. I mean if it's as easy as popping off the trim and like 2 screws without messing around I might be able to do that if I had a panel popper or somethin

You don't need it. Just find some scrap metal, it will work better then the thin pad.
This is very true. You can pick up a piece at a Lowe's etc if you don't have one. Cut it to fit your spot...the larger the better. Then silicone or Velcro it in place. You will be surprised how much better your reception will be.
I did that like ducatiboy suggested...cut out a 4 x 4 piece of metal 1/8 think and put that on my dash with velcro, but it looks ugly (even though it's sitting right where the window meets the dash, and yo

have the metal pad that comes with the Avic-z1 for the GPS antenna? If there is anyone that's not going to be using this metal pad that's sticky on one side with metal on the other, I would like to purchase this from you. Let me know and I can supply u with an e-mail address to arrange payment etc.
  14.
For everyone.... I apprecite the support but don't thank me yet. As highly as you all think of me, I can't "walk on water" (so to speak). If there is absolutely no bypass function in these new units, I don't think I can just magically make one. I'm not going to be reverse engineering the firmware flashed into custom processors for this. I'm betting that since there has been something in the past to bypass these units, I/we need to figure out what that something is. I'm hoping there is something, but if there isn't I might not be able to come up with anythi
  15. Thanks ducatiboy, even though I have an older unit that bypasses, I think that's great that your willing to go out and buy another unit to try and help those with the 'fixed' unit. that's stand up !!
  16.
That's pretty lame. It looks like all the phines in the list that support transfer are like that. Are there any phones that let you load the whole address book at once?
There are some, I don't remember off hand, but I've seen other members that have reported they transferred entire contacts... Just so you know, the Avic-Z1 won't separate different numbers for contacts... for example, if you have a contact that has a land line number and a cell number, it'll put that contact in there twice, and you'll have to go in and re-name what that is...it'll
  17.
What is meant by On-by-One in terms of the address book load? Does this mean you have to load them one at a time instead of downloading the whole phone book.? Thanks.
yes
  18.
I like it. It works great paired with the z1. As far as caller ID goes. If you have the number in the Z1 phone book the name will show, if not then just the number which is fine for me. Not really clear on what you mean by normal voice calling. Please elaborate. Sorry for the late response.
What I mean is you can't say 'call john smith' on your phone...it doesn't have voice recognition....but, you can assign voice prompts or something to a phone number and call that way, correct? Just talking about the phone here.
  19.
On our cars, we found a perfect spot just to the side of the opening for the radio...up close to the windshield. Actually, there is a spot on either side. I put my GPS antenna on one side and my XM antenna on the other. Both work great!
so you did this with the Z1 out of the dash, right? mine is already installed by an installer.
  20. "I'm seriously considering replacing the factory nav in the TL with a Z1. But due to so many systems being integrated into it, that may not be possible." I thought about doing that on my 2006 Toyota Avalon, cause that NAV system is the worse I've ever seen, but with all the intergration that would go on, I decided not to do that.

  23.
Is the remote wired or infrared?
I believe it's infrared. I ordered one through my local stereo installer...it should be here this week.
  24.
It's very possible that in a 03 Explorer that you still have a powered antenna even though you don't have something that goes up and down. Do you have an antenna in the window glass somewhere or do you have a normal antenna. I don't know if the 03 explorer has it. But if it's in the window glass, chances are you need to hook the power antenna to the power antenna wire in your truck, it will power on an amplifier for the antenna. Without this power, a window glass antenna doesn't pick up stations very well.
No, I have a stationary antenna outside on the
  25. I'm having this problem also...2003 Explorer with no power antenna...was getting some am stations to come in, but now, all static... all I remember doing was trying to tune them in better by pressing the 'local' button and then having the Z1 find all the best stations....now all I get is static when I know for a fact in my other vehicle (2006 Avalon), the stations come in much clearer. anyone have any ideas? Maybe I should do a method 1 reset?
