1. So my Z1 decided today to quit working for some reason. I was in the middle of the highway this morning and just shutoff... When I was finally able to stop I thought that it was going to be just a simple reset of the battery... nope... I cranked the car back on and still nothing. Looks dead (no lights, no nothing) I did wonder if a cable prolly got loose but... 2 years with a solid connection and suddenly gets undone? hmmm... sounds weird especially because it was a normal drive, not even a pot hole. I might take it apart this weekend but this really sucks Any ideas? Help please
2. Wow, I've been out of this forum for awhile and I found that is a good thing to update the Z1 but also may or may not mess up the bypass. I have the 2 wire ground in a June 2006 model. If I apply this update will it mess it up? what will be a good way to do it?
3. HEY POWA! (I'm "this guy...") ok, now, I hate to say it but what if the dude (or dudette) gets in the passenger door, there is no camera pointing there, right? What if is a 300lbs MOFO with other guys, guns and shackles? Are you going to carry outside your car a bat or a wrench every time you go out? Unfortunately there is so much that you can do and I think PREVENT is the key factor. If they see a crappy radio they are not going to risk it. Plus, they can bust your window and the alarm will not go off (in our benzos at least), the damage is done and then we are screwed.
4. Hey guys I can't seem to access the menu that controls balance/equalizer, it's like grayed-out. Still shows that the "parking brake" is ON (in the settings). I really don't know what I am doing wrong...
5. I have the 8125 Cingular (which is the same as the HTC) and works like a champ!
6.
Not trying to be a smartass, but since you said you drive with the windows down a lot, perhaps a solution is to drive with the windows up. Do you have A/C in your ride?
lol, if you have a $2000 nav unit and no AC you probably need to revise your priorities ... I can live without my AVIC Z1(hardly) but I can't without AC... lololololol
7. Never done any installation before and I am a complete idiot for those things, total cost $0.00 It's Very Easy (if you have help from nice people in the forums)
8. Thank you! I made a how-to, located in the MBWORLD.org forums http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=163395 Thanks
9. if you take it out throw a long wire (tap into the existing ground and cut it) and run it from the window to the unpainted bolts of the suspension. Try it and it should sound better (I guess).
10. If you search the forums you may found your answer for the popping, also the revv in the speakers is caused by a bad ground (but what do I know)... my .02 cents
11. cough. cough... maybe there was also a blown fuse... hehehehe, I did change it but no love so I had to do it straight. Can I tap the newley connection to get power for my XM from there? Is it possible or do I have to take the long way from the battery (man that's a long wire)
12. 2002 this is how I wired it and some pics inside... So, I finally got it to work. The yellow one and the red one are just decorative in the metra harness. I found out that the harness lacks of a hot wire (maybe is in the incorrect position), that sucked. I had to ran a wire from the cigarrette adapter to the harness, what a pain in the butt. So I finally got everything together, now I have left to do the XM wiring... I am about to give up... (I think I can tap the newly created connection, right?) Oh boy, everything is a pain... not that simple, not that simple... Does anyone knows
13. so, I wired up everything and the unit did not power up... :( ... I'm I doing something wrong? is there an on/off switch that I'm not aware of? This is sooooo sad :'(
14.
By the way since you're putting this into a benz, you'll have to hook the yellow wire from the avic harness to the red wire in the vw harness and the red wire of the avic harness to the yellow wire of the vw harness. When you use the vw harness in benz's or beamers you have to swap those 2 wires otherwise youlose presets and stuff.
Does it matter that the yellow has the 10A fuse?
15.
What you have to do is remove one of the unused pins from the power harness for instance and insert it into that empty slot.
I can't thank you enough
