  1. Yeah I thought the same thing, that maybe sometimes the tray is not coming all the way down, but it is. I can't help but think something gets reset when I turn off and restart the ignition because when it doesn't work, and I do that, it woks 100% of the time. Maybe kinda like a computer reboot of some sort. Almost makes me want to put a swith on whichever wires are energized when I turn the ignition back on, I could hit the switch off and on without pulling over and turning the ignition off and on. Just kidding - I would throw it in the air and use it for skeet practice before I did tha
  2. The whine you hear is coming from your wife or girlfriend. I had the same problem but solved it.
  3. Thanks for your response dj.. It seems lke it must be a software problem as opposed to a mechanical problem. It works every time if I pull over and turn off the ignition and turn it back on. It seems to not work if I have listened to anything else first, like FM or Music Library. I even tried turning Source Off first, but no go. Still have to pull over and turn off ignition and restart. Since I have most of my CD's already loaded on the Music Library I rarely put new CD's in. On this trip my buddy brought some CD's to listen to - and sure enough, we had to exit freeway in a bad part o
  4. My Z2 is about a year old. Months ago I had a problem where if I listen to FM or Music Library while I am driving, then try to insert a CD, the tray will come down, but it won't let me insert a CD. Only if I turn off and restart the engine will it accept the CD. I thought I resolved this problem by doing all the level resets, wiping out all the 50 or so CD's I had in the music library and other memory. It seemed to work, but I was on a trip just recently showing off my bitchin Avic Z2 to my buddies and sure enough it woudn't accept the CD unless I pulled over and restarted the engine.
  5. Thanks Kirk for your reply. Since I already have the Avic installed in my 4Runner the rough usage concern is something I will just have to live with. I wasn't interested in having dirt road trails showing up on the Avic, I was mainly interested in using it to find my way back. My buddy owns a handheld GPS and it will map out your route of where you have been without showing any topo maps - just a line that shows where your route was. Then when you want to go back you push a go back button and follow your path back. It is helpful where the dirt road or trail has many forks - lets you kn
  6. Sorry for this question because I'm sure it is buried somewhere inside the owner's manual that I no longer have as a result of a 4WD trip that involved a river crossing.. How do you remove the little white dots that show where you have been day in and day out? Sometimes it is not a good idea for everyone to know where you have been.. Thanks guys for your help...
  7. Hi guys, I've asked this question about 6 months ago. The Avic 2 was pretty new at that time so I didn't get much response. But by now I have to believe there are a lot of people who have tried to use their Avic in off-road conditions where there aren't any "roads" on the map to follow. Kinda like a GPS that a hiker might use. Mainly to leave "bread crumbs" to find your way back. If someone has used their Avic unit that way - can you please give me a few pointers on how you used it?? Much appreciated... Bob
  8. Dude - You are the King Of Overkill!! I mean that in a good way. If it can be done - DO IT!!! I buy stuff with way more thngs than I will usually use, but it's nice to know that if I want it, I've got it right here. My friends are always amazed. But you're the King...... P.S. What are your plans when the new F Series comes out?
  9. I understand that not all laptop hard drives can withstand the vibration a hard drive is put through when used in a moving vehicle. Are you sure this Toshiba hard drive can? Can others who know about this issue give their opinion?
  10. Don't know how to use the quote feature... Nobody else noticed that I was only quoting Corlando from above? Just kinda thought it was a funny post. Oh well... Sheesh....
  11. There is NO way I would have had the unit replaced and reinstalled by the same dealer 3 times. If you were not sure after the second time whether it was an installation issue or a product issue, (and I don't believe you still have a clue), regardless of what the installing dealer told you, you should have INSISTED UNDER THREAT OF LAWSUIT that the installing dealer allow you to have the third unit installed by a new competent installer. That's where your THREAT OF LAWSUIT would have been more on target. That would be the scientific way to get to the root of your problem. It has been re
  12. I definitely agree that a level 4 reset should be tried first.. Don't know exactly why it fixed my problems, but it did when all other options were tried - even those suggested by Pio Tech.. sux that you lose all your library - but its better than ripping your unit out and sending it in.
  13. cntry - scroll up - i was just quoting Corlando from above... kinda making a joke....
  14. Corlando - I think you should keep calling Panasonic until they fix this problem. Sooner or later they will start to care.
  15. Thanks - appreciate your help... Bob
