No entirely sure because I didn't look to closely, but I think they use a Fakra connector. Not proprietary. It's an SMB with a keyed shroud. They can be purchased from many distributors.

Just drive around for a little while and hit the Menu button. If PIO search, Vacinity seach, Address seach, etc. are available (you can click on them) it worked. You can also simply play a DVD while driving.

I can also verify DB's bypass works great. Installed this evening and after a 20 min drive, The Usual Suspects was still playing. I have the Bypass pin and parking break wires hooked to a DPDT switch. When the bypass is engaged, everything works great. With the bypass switched off, it works as intended from Pioneer (i.e. crippled without the parking break applied). Thanks again for taking the time to figure this out.

ducatiboy, where can I get the contacts to put in that header. It looks like 2mm pitch, but the only 2mm pitch contacts I have don't fit. Thanks... and thanks for finding this sweet bypass.

Hopefully I'll be testing this out this evening. I received my July z1 yesterday and bench tested the flashing technique with no success. I'll be soldering up the wiring harness this afternoon (as long as work doesn't get in the way) and installing when I get home. I'll let everyone know how it works.

I just ordered a Z1 from ButterflyPhoto. The sales rep said he's "pretty sure" they haven't received a shipment in a couple months since this isn't a big seller for them. So I've got my fingers crossed that the bypass will work.
