  1. whatever the case may be in my car, I now am able to switch between day and night mode in my car. Paul
  2. well....I had some time today (Thanksgiving in Canada) of all days to get back in there and play around. I had some extra wire left from the bypass after I cut the parking brake wire short to accommodate the bypass. So, to ensure I can always reverse this install, and since I didn't have a crimp tool, I cut the crimp connector and manually connected the wires and taped it with electrical tape. I then fed the wire down to the power led that lights up the cig. light. This light turns off when I switch the headlights off and turns on when I switch the lights on, so a perfect source for th
  3. when I have time, I am going to connect it to the wire that leads to the cigarette lighter. I noticed that when I turn off my lights (which don't affect DRL's one single bit), the cigarette lighter "light" turns off. Opposite happens when I turn the lights on. The unit is looking for voltage (or current) and if it finds it, it will switch to night-mode. I haven't had the time to fiddle with this yet, but hopefully, this will be the final road-block to having a completely functional Pioneer Head Unit. Paul
  4. doesn't really work that way because I have Daytime Running Lights and the light switch on my Saab does squat. The low-beam lights are on all the time. Paul
  5. I am indeed curious...how would a cop know if the bypass is in place or not....and when would a car ever be inspected....
  6. nope...from the Pioneer D3 unit.....not crimped to anything.
  7. Well....just noticed that my illumination wire is not hooked up to anything at the moment. Currently figure out where I should hook it up too....
  8. When I did my bypass, I was able to disconnect every plug from the unit, but I had difficult with the GPS plug. Any idea's on how to easily remove that? Paul
  9. I will find somethin' for sure...... Paul
  10. That is the problem, the light switch has no affect as I have Daytime Running Lights and I don't think the installer hooked up the illumination wire... Paul
  11. I have a 9-3ss and I just figured that I could use the existing auxiliary switch that sits in the dash to switch the display from daytime to nighttime. Since I already done the bypass, it shouldn't be that bad to get this to go either. Thanks for the suggestion on using a toggle switch. I hadn't thought of that. Also, now it is a matter of finding the illumination wire. Paul
  12. I should clarify....I am referring to the D3

    Display at night

I have DRL's, so any info you pass along when illumination wire is likely not connected.... Paul
  15. According to the instructions, the daytime/nighttime selection mode works based on the switch of the headlights. I drive a Saab and the Saab uses DRL's and the light switch does squat. So, I believe the unit is permanently stuck in Daylight mode as it is likely not connected to anything. Any workarounds on the use of the daytime/nighttime mode when you actually use DRL's? Paul

    D3 Bypass

it is very easy. The wire-tap works like this...you take the black wire as the run-through wire and then run the Mute wire into the slot that is blocked and then clamp it down. It took me no more then 30 minutes to do it all yesterday. I still can't see iPOD video's, but I think that is a functionality issue more then the bypass not working. Paul
  17. that is my problem too. I would love to have the same day/night mode switch automatically, like it does in the Garmin. I wonder if the F-series has that feature.... Paul
  18. oh, and I will likely not to this until the "May" timeframe anyways, so I am in no "quick" rush as this will give me time to fabricate my iPOD holder. Paul
  19. Once I open the dash again, I should be good to go....I will just have to trace the green wire as I got no idea where it is actually connected. I hope it is in the dash, but it may be somewhere else in the car.....just not sure....ugh.... Anyway....I should have done the install myself, as it seemed rather easy, but I don't have the wire-tapping tools, but I think that would have been easy enough to figure out too... Paul
  20. The pictures in this thread clears things up: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7998&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= Thanks
  21. but here is the thing, how do you ground the mute wire when you moved its position? Or, do ground the source of that yellow/black wire to ground along which what the green wire was connected too originally? Paul
  22. well, I was driving to a furniture store in Ottawa...had no idea where it was, actually I did, but I decided to check if the NAV unit Shortest route selection would provide a shorter route. It mentioned to take a left at an intersection, so I did and thought, hmm...seems to be smart enough as it allowed me to cut through a residential area to get to another main street that was 1 mile south. Anyway, I turn "left" onto this particular street. One mile later, when it tells me to make a left, I find out it is a dead end. I guess, the city must have modified the intersection after the mapping soft
  23. but once you move the pin, how do you ground it and the parking wire? Right now, the parking wire is connected, so when you lift the handbrake, the other functions show up in the NAV area. So I have to disconnect anything as a result? Paul
  24. That is what I did....I had to initiate the transfer from the Blackberry, not the D3. The option to transfer the phone book on the D3 apparently disconnects the bluetooth, but then you are able to transfer the address book to the D3. Not that all the contacts are shown as "last name first name", but without a comma. Also, entries are searchable by last name only, apparently. You can then go into each entry and edit the entries, modify the names and delete any entries you don't want on your D3. Paul
