  1. What is the consensus on the hd radio for the avic d3? I remember with the original unit (GEX-P10HD) that there were a lot of complaints but don't remember what the deal was. Now I see a new one, GEX-P20HD tuner, on pioneers web site that looks to be compatible. Can someone give the the low down on how well these work with the unit and what complaints people have with them? Any reason to buy one over the other. I'm trying to figure out if it is worth adding to my d3 that I have otherwise been pretty happy with. I didn't turn up much with the search...
  2. how could I forget about the old head unit??? The cracked part is what lead me to replace it in the first place. I was carrying some lumber in the expedition when I had to slam on the brakes and a piece slid right from the back over the console and straight into the radio . I am surprised that was all that happened. While I was pissed at the time I couldn't be happier now The old face plate is now covering the avic d3.
  3. No need to answer my questions above...already solved. Details and pics here. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=90026
  4. Thanks MisFit, I did eventually find this. I tapped into the black and pink under the drivers side sill plate near the kick plate. I verified with a volt meter before doing so . All done and bypassed and tested. Thanks much.
  5. Almost there. I have connector 290b in the wiring diagram. This has 3 rows of pins and the gray/black is the VSS. Unfortunately the reverse isn't also there. That is the only one I have to find. Any ideas where that may be? I know the electrochromatic mirror has to have a reverse wire because of it lighting up in reverse. Where that wire comes from and a convenient place to tap in beats me. Hopefully someone will clue me in so I can finish today.
  6. Well thankfully I have the most basic radio (1 cd and cassette) so the wiring harness is simpler. I got a plug from best buy and it works fine. Then I modified the stock bracket (drilled 2 holes each side) and used it for the avic d3 and that works fine as well. I am just stuck on the last 2 wires right now (vss, reverse).
  7. Anyone know if vss is indeed at the radio harness? Somewhere else I was seeing it mentioned gray/black but it was an f150 I believe. Not sure if it is on this 03 expedition Also, I could really use a translation for the reverse wire. I got that it is black/pink. "driver kick"???
  8. I am almost done with a pioneer avic d3 install in my 03 expedition. I have the wiring harness adapter and soldered it all up successfully. I tested it and it works. The only think I have left is needing to hookup the separate vss (variable speed sensor or car speed signal input) and reverse gear signal input. If anyone can lead me to where this wire is and the color you would make my day. Thanks
  9. Did you ever find out the info on the 03 expy? I need the vss and reverse locations/color wires.
  10. Wondering if you can help me with something... I have an 03 expy and am looking for the vss wire and reverse wire. Can you tell me what color and where the nearest/easiest attachment point is?
