  1. i was disappointed that the avic cannot survive "cranking" i came from a carPC, which can be running while the motor is off, and when the motor is cranked, it wont restart the PC, it can take like a 5 second crank. no go on the avic though, the entire thing reboots if im listening while "on" and then start the motor this is normal right? Abe edit: the reason this matters so much is because it resets the bluetooth connection and it can take like 1-2 minutes to reconnect (unless you do it manually)
  2. Here is the BOYO VTL400 mounted on the 08 4runner. Lets see some options!! Abe
  3. compare my pic above to this link: http://www.eclipse-web.com/rear/index.html see how the eclipse camera gets the bumper AND can see 2 parking spaces behind? it feels like my boyo is "zoomed in" too much i dunnno Abe
  4. yeah the image is reversed. see pic. as you can see, my field of view isnt THAT great. if i get the tow ball (rear most part of car) then i cant see that far behind, the camera is pointed DOWN. i also cant see the edges of the bumper. I think i may change to one of those bubble camera...whatre they called...fish eye camera? if boyo even makes one? Abe
  5. ive been trying to find this post forever! i wanted to tell you that i also thought it was an svideo plug. however, when i was installing my BOYO VLT420, it has a plug almost exactly like a svideo plug like that (maybe a wee bit smaller). its not svideo, its propriatary. you need the pinout diagram from the camera manufacturer and just splice it! Abe
  6. hey before you do, snap a pic of the pioneer camera's output will ya? if you have it mounted and such? reason i ask is because the field of view on the vlt420 isnt as great as on my lexus, where i can "see" more. i guess its a wider angle or something. wanted to see how the pioneer stock one was? does boyo make a wider angle camera than the 420? its my ONLY complaint. i love it it works/looks otherwise.. Abe
  7. Avic has vehicle dynamics. Maybe not the ones youre looking for but off the top of my head it has: Vehicle speed Batt Voltage Slope Angular velocity Clock Accel/Decel G Savvy? Abe
  8. snap me a pic of the install and the rear view image when u finish!
  9. I have found that the nav is only as smart as you are. its not as great as other navs ive used, but it has other strengths that make up the difference. i understand what its trying to do. Mainly ive seen that it makes every attempt to keep you on the MAIN road, even though taking the smaller roads would have been MUCH better. but i have learning mode on, and it seemed to learn my preferred route. other times, in los angeles anyway, it works just fine (picks the way i would assume makes sense). others have much more dismal reviews of the nav...but in comparison, i think the kenwood nav loo
  10. contrary to what people on here comment, i LOVE my CD SR1 Ive had it a week now and i has missed zero commands (people say it misses commands all the time).. Abe
  11. as much as i like steve jobs for what he as accomplished, i refuse to buy into the ipod franchise! i dont use ipods!! but yes, supposedly the interface is terribly slow. The 2 wire mod will let you input destinations while moving and watch dvds. Its really just a 1 wire mod on a fresh install, you can just simply ground the parking brake wire coming out of the avic to the system ground wire on the same harness. then relocate the other wire and youre done! if i could redo my installation, i would have put a switch on the CELL MUTE wire (instead of using that wire to do my 2wire mo
  12. is it attempting to auto pair then failing, or just failing with regular pairing procedures? also, when you tried 000000 did you set the avic to 000000 also?
  13. Hey David, I have a 2008 4runner. If your car is similar, DIRECTLY behind where the avic mounts, youll see a little "shelf" where you can mount the gps antenna. Make sure that whatever you do, only the plastic of the dash is above the antenna, no metal. This little shelf in my 4runner was the perfect spot to mount the little pad that the antenna sits on, and then stick the antenna on the pad. youll see what i mean. But yes its 100% inside the dash, direclty in the center of the dash (where the center speaker is also) and it works at 90-100% strength. when i see other people with a av
  14. 1) i havent ever seen any album art 2) I mounted mine in the factory toyota location (inside the dash, totally hidden) and i get 100% of the satellites 3) depends on manufacture date, but i just did the 2 wire mod and thats all i needed, bluetooth update was already applied. Abe
  15. try using a 6 digit pass key if it will let you (000000) Also, are you running on Voyager software version V07? (its been through 7 revisions!)
  16. my LG VX8800 pairs just fine. at which point is it failing?
  17. your nokia was TDMA. The only reason GSM is 'larger' is because its cheaper. The technology is actually far FAR behind CDMA. Average data speeds on GSM is ~44kbps. CDMA will average 120kbps on 1xRTT and now 800kbps on EVDO-RevA. GSM is 2.5G, while CDMA is 3G. 4G technology will see use of the new LTE networks that will blow away both CDMA and GSM. So while you argue that GSM is a better technology, i suggest you do some homework. Its like saying chevy is the best car in the world..why if cops use them, they have to be the best! Abe
  18. Lexus nav systems only do that with GSM phones. Have your brother get a CDMA phone and itll work perfectly
  19. your hard drive is set to MONO mode, return it to pioneer. I completely made that up and have absolutely no idea what im talking about. Can i have your vote anyway? Abe
  20. ^^ try this: on the nav phone menu: "read bus card" (and then the connection disconnects) On the blackberry go to the bluetooth menu, highlight the nav device name, press the menu button, scroll down to transfer phonebook and follow logical steps Does that work? Abe
  21. the #1 reason i didnt buy kenwood is because of past experience with crappy build quality. Their motors (for the face and such) are terrible. Second reason is because although the garmin nav may route better, i think it looks like its a kids toy with the colors and the square buttons and such BUT..to each his own! Abe

  23. Maybe my opinion is premature (ive only had it 2 days) but... I feel that the CD-SR1 is worth EVERY penny. Of the ~50 commands its seen so far, it has missed ZERO. Every button works 100% of the time. Sun light, moonlight, or otherwise. I am very satisfied! If i had read this thread i wouldnt have bought the thing, but im glad i did! I only really wanted it for the "answer/end" buttons for Bluetooth, so other functions are not as important to me. Abe
  24. that phone doesnt have the ability to send the phonebook. upgrade to any new LG and youll have that function
