1.
Thread, I happened upon your post after seeing your pics at the Fredtdi forum. I just received the Z-1, IPOD, bluetooth, Flash circuit, and sirius components and am waiting on the wiring harness and dashkit (http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOVW2317B) for my 06 VW Jetta. Thankyou for the info on the speed pulse wire. Did you need an antenna adaptor for your Z-1 and VW fatory antenna? Do you have a reverse camera, and where did you install it? I plan on doing the install in the next couple days.
Get this
 2. And it's got boatloads of traction. I like the twisties more than 1/4 miles. But, as much power as I can put into the R a bike would still beat it on a road corse easy. In fact nothing short of a Ariel Atom can give a bike a really good run for the money on a road track.
 3. It'll be plenty quick after I get this installed on it. Going to do the GT480 system with a boost controller so I can wind it down for normal driving.
 4. Well, some of you may remember that I installed a Z1 into a 2006 VW GLI: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1298 I sold the car and put the stock radio back in and bought a 2004 R32 in great shape. Of course the Z1 was the first thing I changed in the car. Install was a little different as fat as the speed pulse wire goes. It's a different color but, still behind the insturment cluster. Other than that, everything hooked up the same way. Here's a pic of the final install: [img]http://web.mac.com/cvervais/iWeb/Sit
 5.
My offer still stands, PM me if you would like copies of either East, West or both.
You have PM
 6.
Thread, Nice write up! One quick question. When you ordered the part "trim ring" from Enfig.com, which one did you order? MK5 Golf/ 2005+ Jetta Radio Dash Kit Dash kit for 2005 Jetta and all MK5 Golf's or Volkswagen - 1K0 857 850 3X1 Factory Aftermarket radio dash kit Thanks,
Not the VW one.
 7.
So far with the latest design of my circuit, the problems have been been 2 vehicle incompatibilities (06 Jetta GLI with a Dietz Can adapter and a 03 Chevy truck with a remote starter.. I blame those "add ons" for the vehicle incompatibility)
And I would not disagree with you since the Dietz provides the unit with the constant and the switched. I want to say again I really appreciate your help making your product fully compatiable with my car.
 8.
Nice job! I'm looking to install a Z1 in my '06 Jetta. Where did you get the trim ring - Did you purchase from VW, or is this after market? How did you get a good deal from Circuit City? Thanks for the great post.
I got the trim ring from enfig.com. It comes as a single din with a cubby but you remove the cubby and cut off the bar and you have a double din. Got the good deal by signing up for their credit card, got the discount, then paid it off before 30 days so no interest.
 9. The dash and console in my car is the exact same you'll find in 2005.5+ Jettas/GTIs/GLIs/Rabbits so, if you have one of those this should give you a good idea how it can turn out. I came from a D1 which I was meh about. The eclipse Nav I had in my tC I felt was better less the NavTraffic. What was really bugging me about the D1 was the track ahead and track back "button". It was a pain to get it right when the car was moving. And the iPod controls left a lot to be desired. And being a geek, I have bluetooth everything. Sooooo enter the Z1. I purchased the unit, the new iPod controlle

 11.
got a buddy who is installing a z1 in a mkV GTI. the dash kit for the z1... is i commercially avail. will my auto guy be able to get one and the harness to allow power after the ignitoin is switched off (with key still inserted) if you can point me in the right direction it would be great. thanks.
Dash Kit: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/s ... H_KIT.html The pocket slides out and then cut the bar to make it double din. Antenna Adapter: [url=http://enfigcarstereo.
 12.
Ok, not only do I think I know what's going on, I think I can tweak my software to work with this. Of course your's has the "old" (or curent) software. I'll make some modifications, try it on my truck and send you something to switch it out for. If you don't mind taking your dash out again to put a different circuit in.
Nah, I can get it apart in under 10 min. And the circuit is easy enough to switch out. I didn't use sauter on it until I was sure everything worked.
That's very weird. You are getting the ILL wire off the little
 13. Oh, and it's in :D I love how it matches the blurple of the VW and the bluetooth integration rocks and the iPod control is light years ahead of the D1s.
 14.
You are sure the red wire from my circuit is connected directly to the red wire out of the Z1 right?
Yep, unless I misinterpreted the diagram it goes something like this. Red wire from car connected to red wire from your circuit and the red wire from the Z1
Well, you say when you turn the car on and wait, then crank the engine, the flasher doesn't bypass things right?
Correct.
Does the Z1 reset when you crank over the engine?
Ye, you got it.
Find out if
 15. I've got a multimeter, what would you like to try? Jus verifying that your circuit sends a flash pulse down the ILL wire to the HU when I go from acc to crank?
 16. It's in! Ducatiboys mod works like a champ. Only caveat is tha ton the VWs, if you stop at ACC for a bit and then crank the switched power shuts off and on quickly and the ducati thing does not catch it. So, just go from off the crank and you're good. Another issue I need to look into more tomorrow is that the unit is not sensing when the backup light is on. I've tested the connection with the multimeter and when the car is in reverse there is about 4 v going through it and when it's not in reverse no voltage is going through it so I'm kinda confused. Well, unless i's expecting 12v b
 17.
Wonder if prices will come down on the adapters  Enfig had one coming out(maybe this is it) and it was priced like that I heard. Too steep for me to justify at this point. I assume that I will have to tap the fuse panel for switched power? Constant should be at the harness. On a side note, just realized that my "retained power" has never worked. everything shuts off when I pull the key, not when the door opens as it did on my MK IV. :?
Yep, it's the ENFIG one. I'm testing it for Christian. It DOES make retained power work though which i
 18.
Nice, I used your DIY for the LED tails and rear fog so I have that printed out. Thanks for the help. Dustin
I'll do a DIY for this kind of install then. Sounds like it's needed. Only difference is that I've got the DIETZ can adapter so I get everything like speed pulse, lighting, parking brake, backup light, and steering wheel controls through it. But, it's $300 and we're still working out how to get the track forward and back buttons working since the MFD has to be in radio mode for those to work. Basically the DIETZ unit has to fake being a can enabl
 19.
Thead, Nice to see you post over here as well. I will probably be hitting you up with some questions on Vortex IM. I am ordering my Z1 today. Does the cluster have to come out to get to the speedpulse wire??
Yep, but it's just two torx screws and a good yank.
Do you have sat module?? how did you do the antenna? I don't want to add an additional sat antenna and want to use my stock antenna if at all possible. I have a pkg 2 w/XM.
Same as my car. You can't use the stock SAT antenna. I put the pioneer one on my dash in
 20. Here's a pic pf the D1 installed but, it's coming out this weekend for a Z1. I've since modified the trim so the inner corners are sharp and not rounded.
 21. I just ordered the flasher circuit. (It's the one going to infinite loop ducatiboy :D ) Looks like a top quality product and thank you for the instructions on how it works. Until I read that it does not actually flash the headlights and just tells the HU that it did a concern of mine is set aside. My car is a 2006 Jetta GLI and these cars use a CAN-BUS system for the electronics and many of the features of the car. I currently have a D1 installed and use a DIETZ CAN adapter to keep my steering wheel volume controls intact and it also provides speed pulse, parking brake, switched 12v, cons
 22. What kind of Vdub - Audi do you have? I've got a 2006 GLI which is a pain because the electronics are all CAN-BUS. But, despite people saying you need a $300 CAN-BUS adapter to get a speed pulse signal, you don't The white wire with a purple stripe behind the insturment cluster is a regular speed pulse wire that you can tap right into with no worries.
 23. I still have the blue version 1.0 disc that came with my D1 Is it a free upgrade to get the 1.2 discs? And, who do I call? I registered my D1 when I bought it.
 24.

Dumb question. How do you change the bootscreen? I read how to change the background image so we're good there but, what about the bootscreen. Apologies if this is n00bish, been awhile since I poked around in the HU prefs on my D1 and I'm clearly not in my car and won't be for a little while.
No Worries :) Oddly enough, the bootscreen is the only jpeg on the D1.....stupid pioneer. just change BGOPEN2.JPG to any JPEG of your choice. 500x240 is the resolution
