1. I know i haven't posted on here in a minute, but I just saw your thread. I have an 02 M3 where I put in the Z1. I did the install myself and got the bezel from Mybimmer.net. I put in the bluetooth, steering wheel controller thing (sorry forgot the name of it), XM Traffic and iPod connector (in the ash tray). More pics here: http://web.mac.com/jeremiahconnelly/iWe ... im....html Hit me up if you have any other questions.
2. Unfortunately there is no way to install an Avic Z1 or Z2 without modifying the vents in one way or another. I opened up the vents and sealed them off allowing as much airflow as I could possibly get. Since those vents feed the feet/floor vents. Here in Phx, this isn't such a large issue of low airflow as it is for those in colder areas, where blowing hot air in the winter is key. I got the bezel from here: http://mybimmer.net ) Instructions can be found here: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=359575 Granted that is not an Avic unit, but it is a double-din
3. When I first installed my Z1, I had ordered up the bypass just in case. Glad I did, even though I had the bypass in, and the wiring harness pin grounded out, I was never able to get the unit bypassed while moving. No matter what I did or how many times I read the forum here and the instructions for the bypass nothing work. Eventually I ground out the Z1 wire that goes to the parking brake and spliced it into the ground on my iPod connector, essentially just a frame ground, and BAM it worked perfectly. Now the unit thinks the parking brake is constantly on even when I am moving.
4. Search (at the top left) is your friend. In case that is broken........ 1. Use the headphone/line out and the iPod video line out cable and connect it to your input on the back of Z1 2. Find a iPod connector jack cable that supports video line out. 3. Search this forum for more info
5. That's an easy fix. Just install the upgrade discs from the new Z2 that came out a few days ago and it will fix the flasher issue. But there were posts about people who had already installed the Z2 update discs on their Z1's, and it disabled their AM radio band! Strange but noone knows why this happens or how to fix it. Yeah, I read that in the new Z2 section (the private, members only forum). I called Pioneer and they are gonna send me the update disks for free. They said they are free only if you call the special members only number and give them your Z1 access code by midnight to
6. Yes, that is the bezel from bimmerman. I had to use my dremel and smooth out/widen out the sides a little, as it just didn't quite fit into it. After hitting it with the dremel and some touch-up paint you cant even tell I modified it. I am a professional pimp-slapper. For the right price, i'll pimp slap anyone. Nah, i just write software. My car is five years old if you can believe it. Just keep it clean and running well, with the ocassional mod here and there. These cars are well within range in the $20K market. Thanks for the comments!
7. Thanks, i'll search around here for more info and keep checking the forums to see if it will be a worthwhile update.
8. Thanks man. Sweet job on the TSX. Looks identical to a stock navi. The CF trim is aftermarket. I looked at the ACS stuff and almost choked on the price. So I went a slightly cheaper route. I think it came out just as sharp as the ACS trim kit. Here are a couple of pics of the hoopty
9. Has pioneer said if there will be a firmware update to the Z1?
10. Came out decent. I need to adjust my bezel around screen as it isn't quite flush with the interior. Minor adjustment though. Also need to get the rear camera and monitor hooked up but I have been lazy though and just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
11. Text grab from: http://www.jjielectronics.com/index.asp ... ProdID=938 IP-Bus: The GEX-P10XMT is controlled by Pioneer IP-Bus compatible head units and navigation systems. A 5-meter (9 ft.10 in.) IP-Bus cable is supplied for connecting the XM receiver to the controlling head unit. A separate IP-Bus input is provided on the XM receiver to allow you to connect a Pioneer Multi-CD changer. If connecting to a Pioneer navigation unit, you will need to connect both the IP-Bus cable and the XM Data Cable. When conn
12. So I installed my Z1 this last weekend and "thought" i hooked up the NavTraffic unit correctly. Guess not. Cause I don't get ANY XM stations or traffic. However, if I go to the XM Status screen I can see the GEX-P10XMT's radio ID. So my question is..... Does the IP-Bus cable AND the Data-Out cable both have to be connected to the Z1? I just installed the black Data-Out cable and not the blue IP-Bus cable. Since i was just following directions exactly as they both said, I figured i would only have to do the one cable like the instructions said. Any help would be greatl
