  1. This is true. I look at it kind of like the Michael Jordan philosophy. We call him the best because he's the best we've ever seen... but what about the kid who's better than MJ but was never discovered. There's always someone out there who is smarter than me. So I can make my app as tough as I can to hack, but if that person who is smarter than me decides to try to hack it, he will be able to. Apple making jailbreaking harder and harder, but someone always finds a hole eventually. Just have to hope that these stereos draw the right people in to look at it. Hacks are always cool to play with,
  2. Just have to give it time. Eventually someone with programming "know how" will start tinkering with these and figure some stuff out.
  3. Weren't there hacks for this on some of the older AVIC units?
  4. So, what's the limitations as far as embedded audio? I download 1080p .mkv files that have DTS audio. Will the radio play DTS, down mix to stereo, or do I need to download different video files? I have the 4000 but I would assume the playback features as far as this is concerned would be the same.
  5. I wonder what cables are required and what will be supported? Lightning to AV Adapter or only lightning to USB cable? Any video output through here? WAZE SUPPORT?!?!?!?!?!

How can this be??? Isn't this their FLAGSHIP model? Insane!
  7. I have seen the cable when I bought my 4000NEX. In the box was an hdmi cable, a wire cover and a USB cable with a weird plug on the other end that my 4000 doesn't have on the unit. That being said I kept my $60 and bought a $15 hdmi cable and the apple hdmi adapter. I know this doesn't answer your question, but from looking at the contents of the package, I do not know how it could make a difference... but nothing is impossible I guess.
  8. Yes there may be a different set. Does your car come with a model that does not Have the factory amp? If so, it's possible that the wire harness is for the standard stereo instead of the "premium." The wire harness that I bought for my car was actually for the Elantra WITHOUT the premium sound system. So the harness matched the stereo harness as far as speaker wire, but did not match the cars actual wiring. It's kind of hard to explain in writing.
  9. Is the stereo connecting to the factory amp via RCA cables or the stereos wire harness? My car had a factory amp and there weren't the normal grey white purple and green cables running to the amp. It actually had a different type of connection. Make sure the stereo is actually getting the audio out to the amp which then runs to the speakers.
  10. So was it working for you at one point then just stopped? Tonight I even tried connecting lightning cable from phone straight to USB 1 to see if the adapter was the cause of the problem and got the same error message. It actually reads "incompatible usb"
  11. I want to add (and this might just be me) that if I have the apple av adapter connected to hdmi AND the lightning cable to USB that I CANT see the iPod through USB input 1. It simply gives me incompatible device error message. Also, I have the 4000 but that shouldn't make a difference!
  12. Siri working perfectly here on my 4000.
  13. I was reading another thread that said the screen size for the apps can be changed in the Input/Output settings on the head unit. I have this menu, but it is always greyed out so I am unable to go into that menu and change any sizes. The problem I have is that the Waze app fills up left to right and bottom perfect, but I have a black bar across the top. Anyone know if this is just not possible on the 4000 even though the menu option is there?
  14. Pressing the home button twice worked perfectly. Now I can see my waze app in full screen... almost. I have a thin black bar that runs across the top of the screen. Sometimes the app seems to "adjust" and I end up with rounded corners and a black bar around the entire app, not just the top. I'm assuming this is a bug, but I don't know if it's a radio bug or a waze bug. I would take a picture but as soon as I touch the camera app, I will lose the app mode screen on the radio. lol
  15. Thinking you're gonna be pretty happy with this setup. Have fun putting in. I love the install phase because it's usually pretty tough... but when you're done and you get to listen to all that hard work...... so worth it!
  16. I installed the maestro sw module for steering wheel controls but my car is not supported with the extra features. Install was seamless and easy. Worked immediately.
  17. I don't have any videos on my iPhone currently. I will try to get some on there and give this a shot tomorrow night after work.
  18. I have the same vertical menu on the left hand side and cannot get the apps full screen unless switching to hdmi input. I have also found a bug that the radio switches you back to the input you are using while navigating menus. Sometimes it takes 10 seconds, sometimes 2 and sometimes it doesn't do it at all... but it's clearly a bug.
  19. Not positive. I didn't have an older AVIC unit so I don't know how they were bypassed. This one is bypassed with a bypass cable I bought from the stereo shop. It has three cables (black, green, and blue) that connect to the radios harness and the other end of the cables are all grouped together under a black cover so you can't see anything. It was incredibly simple actually.
  20. This is correct. With the hdmi port and the apple lightning to av adapter, I can stream movies on here. Best part of this is I can stream Thomas the Train from Netflix for my son when he starts getting cranky from being in his seat for long periods of time!
  21. I thought about the iPad mini route also, but essentially you still need a head unit to sync the iPad to in order to get the audio out to your amp/speakers. So you need the iPad plus the cost of a head unit, which is still a cheaper option, just something to think about. I'll go snap some pictures after this meeting I'm about to walk into.
  22. My car doesn't support the data like tire pressure and what not. I did buy the iDataLink Maestro SW module to retain all of my steering wheel controls and it works flawlessly.
  23. So i picked up my AVH-4000NEX yesterday and got it installed. So far my overall impressions are very positive. The unit is quick and responsive. Haven't found any annoying bugs yet, but I'm sure they are coming. The one problem I am having it connectivity with my iPhone 5. I have a standard HDMI cable (not the $50 pioneer cable kit) and the USB extension cable that came with the radio. I have both of these cables connected to the back of the radio. I have the HDMI cable connected to the genuine Apple lightning to AV adapter, and I have the geniun apple lightning to usb cable connected to t
  24. Ok... so I turned the auto zoom feature off and now the system will "follow" behind me in 3d mode while tilted but I still do not have the clouds... just a big blue area where the clouds should be.
