  1. Turned the mute off. Still have the problem. Do I have to take the unit apart to check this? I looked under the screen while it was in the open position and all I see is the white track/gears for moving the screen. No sign of a ribbon cable.
  2. I booted into test mode and did the key test. The volume up and down keys are working. What's weird is it is very intermittent now. Normal for a few secs then back to lower audio levels. When the volume is at normal levels the vol up/down keys work. When the audio level lowers for whatever reason I lose vol up/down controls. I did a reset as well and that didn't fix anything.
  3. Did you ever figure out what caused this? I have a z2 with the z3 upgrade and it has been working for years fine. Just today I noticed it is stuck where everything works except volume. It's also lower volume then what it is set at. I hear it jump up to the normal volume randomly and when it does this if you click the vol button quick enough you can make an adjustment. Then it goes back to the lower audio level and you are locked out again. I'm wondering if something is shorting out behind the unit. I have a Acura CL so it's a PITA to pull the deck but looks like I will be...
  4. My HD went out on me so I bought a new 60GB. I downloaded a z3 torrent a while back and everything worked. On first boot it installed software or went through some sort of installation. I can't really tell the difference between the Z2 and Z3 OS. Is there a menu I can go to that will confirm I didn't get some kind of Z2 torrent incorrectly labeled? Thanks
  5. Well I'm going to pull the HD this weekend and give it a shot. I hate to throw another $50 at a HD and it turn out to be something else as well. If solid state drives were more cost effictive it would be a nice change. Until that day they need to stick to flash memory of some sort. I replace a lot of HDs working as a system admin so it's no suprise that the ones in these Pioneers aren't lasting very long do to their enviroment.
  6. I have a Z2, since I've owned it the thing randomly will not boot up sometimes. It will freeze at the Pioneer screen or loading navigation screen. Sometimes it even freezes just blank. I noticed a few months back the music on the HD would stop randomly during the song and skip through tracks. I pulled out my Ipod the other day to put new music on. I plugged it back up and it hasn't booted correctly since. It's frozen on one of the 2 screens or just blank. I ran the diagnostics through the "reset+eject" service menu. The HD read test showed the drive as failing. If I pull the drive an
  7. I understand what you're saying. I actually stoped using the orginal owners "mute" wire because it didn't seem seated very well. I took the "guide on" wire and used it instead. It appeared to make a perfect connection but maybe not. Once I have the car taken back apart ill do a little more troubleshooting since it appears to not be software related from what you are telling me.
  8. We soldered the connections so I'm pretty confidant nothing came loose. I'll double check that somehow the image we used wasn't turned around backwards and we have the wrong pin... My Z2 is WAY to bright at night so i'm going to have to pull the interior of my acura 3.2CL anyway to solder that lead. I'll double/triple check the connection for the ground lead since you feel confidant it isn't a software issue. Thanks
  9. Yea that was terrible forum edicate. My bad. Thanks for your reply in that other thread. You seem to be the only active poster here. I'm use to car forums where you miss one day and it's all new threads.
  10. Nobody has any ideas on how to begin troubleshooting this problem. Still got a parking break lead msg and no video while moving....
  11. Nobody here can help me troubleshoot this problem?? There has to be a method to isolate what is causing the parking break lead msg and no video. I was thinking about getting one of those Z3 HDs but i'd hate it if that didn't correct the problem. Be nice to have another drive though to rule out a software issue. I feel pretty damn confident about the wiring!
  12. AVIC-Z2 I have the same problem. I just applied the update disc. It took and rebooted the device. Then afterwards I hit the reset button. Now I still get the parking break error message and the video cuts out when you move. I checked and it says the unit is running 02.000 version. If there is any more info I can get from the unit for troubleshooting please let me know and i'll report back. I checked the sensors screen. VSS is good, GPS is strong, parking break is ON, illumination is OFF (I didn't connect this wire, should it matter?) Hopefully someone can give me some ideas fo
  13. I have a avic-z2 I got from a friend. I just applied the update from the iso I burned. Everything with the update went smoothly to 100%. The unit then rebooted itself after I pressed ok. It came back online and I hit the reset button. After the reboot I thought it was all good however, once driving out my driveway I got the parking break wire error and lost video. I did the install myself. I know everything is grounded properly according to the diagrams. What do you guys think is up??
