  1. You can find all sorts of products to clean your screen. I would however NEVER use any type of glass cleaner (Even invisible glass). If your trying to clean off dust on the screen than a damp microfiber cloth should do the trick. Then dry it with another microfiber cloth that's dry. If your screens got alot of oily fingerprints/soda sputters then you'll want to buy a little bottle of LCD screen cleaner (you can pick this up in staples, office depot, best buy, in the laptop section or for a bigger bottle of the stuff check the LCD TV sections of your local tv retailer), and bust out
  2. The idea of having animated images on the load screen is pretty cool. Shame he's looking at animated gif though, the compression gif uses leads to alot of banding and gradients which IMHO will look absolutely horrible on the f series screens. Perhaps he'll look into other animated formats as well such as .png.
  3. The AVIC F series seems to output the voice navigation stuff to the rear speakers by default. My car only has 2 front speakers, so when I initially had it all installed I didn't hear any voice or anything. I had to actually set the fade of the unit so that I only got music/sound out of my front speakers before I could hear the nav voice. I'm not sure why your nav voice only comes through one speaker though. But I haven't seen any way to get rid of the muting of the music by the nav voice.
  4. Bitmaps don't support transparency. You might be able to use an 8bit bitmap image (256 colors) and color key one to transparent but I'm not sure that would work either and you'll lose alot of fidelity in your icons.
  5. Internet connected is a great first step for next gen nav systems. But I don't think mercede's has a holy grail on their hands yet. You need internet connection for this to run, and considering that cell coverage doesn't exactly work everywhere due to terrain, cell tower locations, and coverage you could be left with out music, and navigation easily if you happened to be traveling through a tunnel, through the mountians, or other notoriously bad coverage areas. They also need to work on the user interface, until I can quickly select "Korean Food" while waiting at a stop light and direct
  6. Circuit city's already sold it's stock to a liquidator. And from all reports the liquidators first marked up prices then put the "SALE" sign in the windows (they are allowed to do this because eventually it's a sale). Week after week they gradually lower the prices on the items till they are all sold out and eventually hit the 50% off mark or lower. But by that time there isn't a whole lot of selection, because of the people who got conned by the "SALE" sign's when their prices were 10% over the normal circuit city prices. Your best bet for a deal is 6ave.com
  7. Unless your car came with a built in nav system it's unlikely that the VSS wire, reverse wire or break wire will be integrated into the wiring harness. Which means you'll need to do a bit of research to locate them. You also asked if you would need a new wiring harness. You don't "need" one if you already have an aftermarket stereo installed. If not you'll have to go buy one (I suggest walmart, the price for the harness is around $7.00). I'd do the majority of the wiring in the house because it's simply easier than being upside down in a car with a flashlight trying to find the r
  8. Well first of all: http://www.slashgear.com/pioneer-avic-f ... o-2111271/ Considering a large majority of .avi files use either divx or mp4 compression I'd assume thats where the problem lies. You can export the .avi file so that it's a pure .avi file not using the divx or mp4 codec, or you can burn a cd or DVD with the data on it to watch.
  9. Hey guys, I'm not exactly what anyone would call an "artist" by nature. I'm a designer, alignment, using illustrator to create icon frames, and photoshop to come up with the final output. Unfortunately my version of photoshops at 5.0 which is missing alot of the transparency masking stuff which is used for many icons. I did download the 30 day Photoshop cs4 trial and would be willing to help make any icons you guys may need for the theme. I've already done a few for my own wall paper and have a template all set up so all that needs to be done is to change the background color &
  10. *chuckle* I remember traveling up to boston to go see the red sox when I was a kid. My dad got completely frustrated because all the roads he was supposed to turn down were marked as "One Way" but the entire population of boston were driving down those streets in the wrong direction. Keep in mind this is probably around '89 or so navigation systems weren't even used back then. I suspect the problem might lie in the fact that the streets in boston change during morning & evening rush hour traffic. A navagation systems going to have a really difficult time with that, you might be ab
  11. hey lome, what exactly is the trim ring you placed around the mic? I'm looking at placing my mic in a similar position in my MR2 Spyder. I had intended on drilling a hole in the empty thing and then mount the mic behind it and cover the hole up with speaker cloth for a stealth look but you managed to get a pretty stealthy look with that install. DOH! Asked and answered already! I don't suppose you know the size of the gromet you used & the size of the hole you had to drill do you? It could save me a bit of time driving to lowes & pep boys
  12. laws of supply & demand. If the demand is high the price goes up
  13. I was going through the same decisions as you less than a few weeks ago. I'll give you a summary of what I think after recieving my F90bt: 1) The navigation works pretty well I do wish it was smarter for example my navigation system wants me to take side roads to get to my house and make a left turn at a stop sign rather than continuing straight and turning left onto the same road at the stop light (which is mighty easier) I also had a pretty funny experiance with the nav system when I drove on a new bypass that was built this past year. The nav system kept telling me to make inva
  14. Well my car doesn't seem very popular so while on vacation I cooked a couple of logon screens up for it. It's based on a blackberry theme called iBerry 2.0. If you all like this & want to toss your images in send me a PM & I'll get you a version of the template I made up. And as a side note I'm seeing a lot of people using extremely low res logos for pioneer, premier and the like and wanted to suggest downloading the AVIC F series manuals from the pioneer website, you can hit print screen and get the logos in a very high resolution that won't look absolutely horrible when you
  15. Does anyone know if it's possible to modify the size of the back button? I've got some pretty fat fingers and when there is an item which can be selected directly underneath the back button I often accidentally select it while trying to back out of the menu? I realize I could use the crazy stylus that came with my f90bt but that would require digging around my glove box and keeping an eye on the road.
  16. I don't believe it's impossible to do what your asking. However one would need access to the Zune Software development kit, as well as pioneers avic development kit in order to write a third party application, or even remap the iPod controls to be intercepted & translated into zune commands. In short, it's just not likely someone would undertake this task.
  17. As others have mentioned: The RCA connectors & the USB cable need to be connected to the AVIC unit in order for the ipod connection to work correctly. Make sure that you've connected the USB as well as the RCA cables up to the correct inputs. Make sure your iPod is supported by the f series units, and make sure that the firmware on the iPod is not greater than or less than the firm ware version suggested for your iPod (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ephox ... 0Chart.pdf) Lastly it's possible the head unit got messed up or like what happened with me today your iPod locked up
  18. Well first & foremost make sure your iPod is using the correct firmware for your Touch it should be firmware version 1.1.4. Secondly make sure your RCA cables are plugged into the correct inputs in the back of the stereo (AV1 if I recall correctly), and lastly make sure the female USB port from the pioneer deck is plugged into the male USB connector from the pioneer iPod cable. That should take care of nearly all of the problems I can think of off hand.
  19. I figured out what the problem was. I needed to update the firmware on my iPod I was only at version 1.1.1. Thanks for the help though.
  20. You can probably use the wiring harness that was already used to install the jensen radio. As for other things you'll need that really depends on your vehicle. At most you may need a new dash kit for a double din stereo because the avic isn't wide enough to take up the whole stock double din space. I'd also suggest finding out where your vehicle speed sensor, parking brake and reverse light wires are located way before you begin your installation. Otherwise you could easily waste a day or so with your car torn apart awaiting for answers.
  21. That didn't really seem to work either. It's almost like the usb cable isn't working right because it clearly recieves input from the audio/video cable when I switch to video as the main input. Anyone else have some ideas? I really hope I didn't get a defective unit.
  22. Hey guys, I just installed my AVIC f90bt today and ran into a bit of a problem. I connected the pioneer iPod cable to the ipod inputs on the back of the unit, then I connected the USB connector from the iPod cable to the USB input from the stereo. I then went into the menu's and set the iPod as the input source for AV1. But when I went to the AV selection screen it would not allow me to pick AV1 as an input. I then changed the input in the settings to video and went back to the AV screen and was able to listen to my iPod that way, however this doesn't provide any of the iPod con
  23. This isn't my first time installing a stereo, but it is my first time installing a all in one stereo/nav/bluetooth head unit so I've run into a slight deliemma that I'm unsure how to deal with. I'm installing an AVIC F90bt. My metra wiring harness from the car has a ground connection, normally I would connect this wire up to the ground wire from the AVIC F80bt harness. However the wire itself isn't really set up to be connected to the wiring harness ground but instead it appears set up to be connected directly to the chasis. And the directions aren't very clear about hooking this wir
  24. It's frustrating these days trying to find a local stereo shop thats still in buisness & isn't a best buy or circuit city. I spent the better half of the day looking for a double din dash kit for my new AVIC-F90bt. The guys at circuit city knew what I was talking about but said they didn't have any (not too suprising seeing as how they were going out of buisness), and the people at best buy looked at me like I was a gorgon when I asked for a double din dash kit and proceeded to ignore me. Honestly your best bet is to is to go to http://www.crutchfield.com/m_750/Car-St ... ml?tp=13
  25. The really difficult part is actually locating the VSS wire, and backup light wire for your car. And running the wires from their respective locations to your nav unit. The rest of the head unit install is really handled by matching up wires on the head units wiring harness and the metra harness you use to connect up to your OEM stereo connection, which for the most part is cake unless your color blind.
