  1. I have a 3000GT VR4 with Tein coilovers. I also lowered the car 1 3/4 inches all around (for autocrossing). I do drive the car daily as you so the car occasionally hits the bump-stops, as well. All in all, bone jarring ride as it is designed for the track. Not a problem with the Z1. Z3's have the same basic design ........... just updates to firmware and software. Should not be a problem for you.
  2. I've used a 650P, 750W, and now TreoPro. Sound to the callers is the same for all three ............ they hear an annoying echo. Transferring contacts is an issue with WinMobile (even 6.1). Single contact transfer is fine via BT. There is no option with the WinMobile Treos to transfer categories or the entry book. Not a good thing. I'd go back to the Palm Treo if my company supported them.
  3. I've purchased an upgrade drive (Z3) and have transferred the Music partition over. All is working just fine. I've found what appears to be the Phone book and Address book files in the original drive. Is it possible to copy those over as I have with the music files. Was there a change in file format between the Z1 (my original drive) and the Z3 drive? Are there other directories other than the obvious directories that must be copied over as well. Thanks in advance
  4. Besides via BT, is there a way (via CD/DVD??) to transfer the address book from a PC to the Z3? I've searched the manual and this site but no discussion of this anywhere. How about exporting Outlook categories to vcard format, burning to CD? Does the Z3 have the capability of reading them into the unit's phonebook?
  5. I have to believe this has been covered, but haven't found through two nights of searching. I just purchased an upgraded HD (Z3) for my Z1 unit. So I'll have the firmware and map upgrades. Additionally, it is my understanding I can copy over my music files. What about my address, phone books, and destination history. Can personal data be transferred to the new HD? Would appreciate a link to instructions for this. Thanks in advance.
  6. Jeeeez .............. so easy even I could do it
  7. It seems for me the best solution for upgrading from Z1 --> Z3 is to buy a drive already configured. Although I don't have a ton of music on the Z1, there is still about 15-20 albums. If I purchase a Z3 imaged HD is there a way of transferring the music library from the Z1 HD to the Z3 HD? I have all the unlocking SW, access to any OS, and ability to plug the drives into PCs. I just don't know if the transfer is straightforward or subject to some encoding scheme. Thanks in advance!

    Z2 OS

It is a version of Windows CE. If that helps.
  9. So, like, its really cool to use lots of add-ons and wires, and bypasses JUST to get the usability that a standard nav system should have ........... right? You have to be kidding me. Are you brain dead? I also appreciated this site .............. but NOT because of the inherent wonderfulness of the Z1/2. But because of the resourcefulness of the American public ....... their ingenuity! Anyone want to disagree?
  10. Man ............. I will limit all future Pioneer purchases. The factory units (including music storage) are so much more convenient. Last Pioneer I purchase.
  11. I was just trying not to have to do yet another bypass. The headlight flash works just fine!! Why do a 2 - 4 or 12 wire bypass when a simple flip of a switch works just fine. So ......... transferring just maps won't work, or more importantly has been tried and most definitely won't work?
  12. I'm OK with the Z1 in general (able to use flash bypass), but only want the new maps. Original Z1 map dB is so incomplete! Can't only the map partition from the Z2 be copied to the Z1?? I realize this might mean the HDD removal. Is the 'updated' software for the Z2 required for the new maps? Also, I am aware that the new map upgrade from Pioneer does remove the bypass ability. Is it possible for a work-around specific to just the updated maps like has been done for the entire Z1 ---> Z2 upgrade?
  13. Let me get on my soapbox ............... you're full of crap! My wife's 2006 Accord nav had our 12yo house in its dB. My Z1 purchased 6months later did not. SO ...... you're saying you accept 12 - 15 year old maps, shoddy designs? If I had wanted a great sound system I wouldn't have purchased a Z1. I wanted a nav system that had an OK sound system. I received a crippled nav system with really old maps and the ability to save ONLY CDs to the HDD (which is OK ..... but not the primary function I was looking for in a NAV system). Another point ..... the Accord nav functions are acce
  14. C'mon, now, boys ......... isn't past your bedtime? Mommy is going to spank you. Now, you go on and play in your sandbox like nice little boys and let the grown-ups alone. But you'll be invited back when you have your license or have more than two neurons firing simultaneously. Now, go-on ...... shooo. Nice. Hey ...... and ScubaSteve ........... if they come back, you make sure they at least had their Mommy put their big-boy pants on them.

  16. I my situations I knew the general areas but not the best, shortest, fastest way once missing a turn-off. Part of the reason for a nav is to allow you NOT to have to backtrack in a situation like that. Also, I think the others using the systems on known routes were testing the systems. The grades weren't passing, it would seem!
  17. I'm in too. I've had the Z1 for well over a year. Some trips were routed properly. And a few that were off were my fault because in the settings I had specified 'only freeways' which made it try to force me to the closest freeway instead of surface streets. Once I reset route setting it did better, but the routes are still not always calculated properly.
  18. Actually I figures out my problem with connecting with BT. I had to REGISTER the new phone with the Z1. Once I did that it has been working flawlessly with the Palm 750 ........... no dropped connections. For some reason it does take about a minute or so longer for the handshake than the 650, but then its fine. Boy, I feel dumb. At least its working.
  19. You posted your success a while back. Still happily BT'ing along?? I just bought a 750 and also have a Z1. With my 650 I had no problems connecting and maintaining long calls through BT. However, I have not been able to get the 750 to connect at all. What was your initial experience. Anything special that had to be done to affect the connections? Thanks for any help! Dennis
  20. Have had two Treos: 650 and now a 750 (WM5.1). The 650 (PalmOS) connected without a hitch and the connection was stable ...... no dropped connection. The 750 I've just about given up on. Has never connected to the Z1. No changes to the Z1 from the 650 to the 750. Won't give up the Treo, but would certainly like to get the BT working. Is there any little pearl someone can provide to help us out?
  21. Does that mean you didn't install a Z1? Cause it wouldn't be stock then I like driving it way too much to not try to improve it. Its quieter, faster, lighter, handles better, and now has a better sound system and nav system. It gets better all the time! All depends what you're looking for.

    Z1 vs Z2

As many improvements that could have been made to the display layout? Improvements to functionality (maintenance menu)? And all they did was update the maps? No wonder its cheaper than the Z1.

    Z1 vs Z2

Has anyone put together a side-by-side comparison of the Z1 vs Z2? Doesn't seem like an upgrade to the Z2 software will bring that much day-to-day improvement in the Z1.
  24. I thought that stuff only reduced noise from going outside? It is barrier material, so it in theory would keep sound in. But the purpose is to keep exterior noise out. And it does. Only issue with the VR4 is the road noise from the low profile tires and the generally stiffer suspension components transmitting that road noise. Even so, this car is quiet now. I'm not a fanatic about music in the car, but the quality of the Z1 is sufficient with these speakers that it needed to be more quite to fully appreciate the sound. Well worth it if you're going to keep the car, which I am.
  25. When I put my Z1 in my 97 VR4 I put all new Focals, pioneer amp and Dynamatted/Dynaliner'ed every square inch of the interior. Big difference. Can you spell t o m b ? Then switched from the Borla to a Tanabe SM Hyper cat-back. Very nice ........ and even more quite. Dennis
