  1. I have a NEX 8000 in my Subaru outback and I mounted a kia shark fin antenna to the roof connected to the head unit with an adapter & it works great. Just wondering, why does the stock antenna need to be mounted to a sheet of metal larger than the antenna? I'm asking as I have a similar problem with my avic z150bh in my 2nd car. Sometimes the GPS cursor floats way off the road. I have the stock antenna under the dash close to the windshield sitting on a piece of plastic. Do you think it would work better if I have a piece of sheet metal under it?
  2. Thanks for your advice. I was planning to reset the system after work. Turned out it seems to be tied to the mute when the "your over the speed limit" warning kicks in. The volume control returned after I happened to trigger the speed warning again. I'm thinking the mute must have gotten stuck. Things are back to normal again. I'll try resetting the system to see if it prevents it from happening again. Thanks again
  3. I have an 8000NEX with a Kenwood XR900 5 Excelon 5 channel amp. Installed both units myself and all has been working well since installed for about 6 months, except today I am not able to get any sound from the unit. The volume controls do not work and I noticed that in settings, the audio control settings or equalizer settings are not highlighted or functional. I'm not sure if there is a problem with the 8000Nex or if it is with the Kenwood power amp. Has anyone run into a problem like this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,
  4. I've had similar issues with the 8000NEX GPS. On several trips it suddenly deviates from the initial calculated route (gps voice stating "recalculating") often taking me miles out of the way or off of highways to drive through busy urban streets. I'm ready to go back to my portable Magellan gps.
  5. It's puzzling. If I connect the USB/lightning & HDMI cable to the Apple a/v adapter and change the iPhone setting to A/V adapter, I get a USB error. I tried changing to a different USB/lightning cable, but no change. Car play works OK with the USB/lighting cable alone.
  6. I have the NEX 8000 installed. Before upgrading to carplay, I was able to watch video movies saved to my IPhone 5s. Since the carplay upgrade, I can not get video to play at all, but can only hear the audio. The HDMI heading no longer shows up on the NEX screen. Is this function lost with the carplay upgrade. Does anyone know if it's still possible to play movies from the iPhone after the carplay upgrade? Thanks,
  7. This weekend I installed the AVIC f700bt in my 99 toyota camry. It is working fine. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the map orientation so it does not always face north. My other GPS lets me change the orientation so the map orientation changes to face what ever direction the car is moving. I was not able to find anything in the manual. Thanks for any help.
