  1. Outside of the box thinking...I don't see the problem. It's things like this that brings about the change that makes as advance as people in general. It seems like this board is full of not possible and no-wayers...oh well.
  2. That would be pretty cool since it already tells me what kind of phone I have, provider and signal strength...any updates?
  3. I realize I can use an HDD and I know it's only goint to hook up through USB, I'm asking my question based on the thread title...putting iPod software or an emulator onto the drive so that every time we plug in the HDD, the AVIC sees it as an iPod and runs it as such so we can avoid all the lagging, etc issues that people have mentioned from using an HDD.
  4. That narrows it down a little, thanks. I didn't know an iPod 160gb had an actual internal HDD and still has the room for a screen, buttons, etc while still being a small device. So that changes my whole perception that I stated above in fact that the internals of an iPod is a physical drive not just memory like in an SD card. So once again, what's keeping people from taking a drive like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Laptop-Apple-iPod-C ... 335e2ffae8 and transferring it over to a 2.5 HDD, throwing it into an external case and making it work? Before someone reading this tells me to go ahead a
  5. I wish this wasn't such an open and closed subject. I bet for a while people we're saying that we'd never get 3.0 runing on the F90BT, but as of a few days ago, I had the simpliest FX3.1 installation on my F90BT that I've ever done. Since the iPod has it's own software, I still don't see why it can't be made to run on an HDD other than an HDD being a disk vs physical memory. The problem with searching for an iPod on ebay is that MILLIONS of them show up, so even if I wanted to make my first iPod purchase for being able to simply use it as a place to store mostly videos and some music, I
  6. Another update...I haven't purchased one of these yet, but they're all over eBay for around $20 http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=6 ... p=15&_sc=1, I just searched for bluetooth audio receiver. It sounds like it's mixed results between being the same or worse sound quality vs a 3.5mm jack, so until I'm super desperate and tired of the 3.5mm, I'll stick with this since I don't wanna waste $20 for something that isn't any better sounding. I found these using "a2dp receiver" for my search, I wonder if these would work. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=a2dp+r ... m270.l1313 Also,
  7. Bump for a great subject! I've kind of got the same issue where when I play videos from my SD, the reaction time is obnoxiously slow, some movies lag while others are perfectly fine (I think it's a resolution thing then), and I've learned to NEVER use the steering wheel volume controls because one click and it'll go shooting to full blast or all the way down. I'm guessing the machine is reacting slowly for some reason, so it sees one click from the steering wheel, then it's slow reaction sees tons of clicks and it goes wild. The only way to stop it is to use the manual knob. I've got an
  8. Yeah, I even remember having the GF sitting in the car while I called her, having her move the mic around inside the cab into various areas till I got a perfect sound. I just did the FX3.1 update, and even though it has nothing to do with BT, I'll have to try again. I don't think I've ever used voice command once.
  9. Sounds like a software thing...do any other AVIC units feature that option?
  10. Thanks for all your work Retell, I was intimidated by simply removing keybeeps and updating from 2.0 to 2.0000008 Your single file seems to do everything I've wanted but have been afraid to do after reading about people having random issues. I to have an F90BT, so I'm assuming that I won't have any of the mild issues that others have been having on this thread while using units other than the F90BT. I had a question though...are the icon, map changes, etc in the video above part of this mod? If not, I don't mind, I'd just be happier with a faster reacting unit...this thing is TERRIBLY slo

  12. On my old Alpine CVA1005 I was able to watch any sort of video input (DVD, PS2, etc) and be able to listen to another audio source (CD, FM, AUX input, etc). Is there a way to make the F90BT do this as well? I'd like my passengers to have the option of a video playing so I dont have a blank screen or the navi, but be able to listen to some sort of audio input.
  13. So after waiting what seemed like 10 minutes for my phones contacts list to sync onto my F90BT, I got my first call and they couldn't hear a word I was saying I use a bluetooth regularily with my phone, so I know it's not BT issue with the phone itself. I can make calls, hear them talking, called ID shows up on the screen, but they can't hear a word I'm saying. Any suggestions?
  14. So one person said 250GB, while another said don't go over 80GB since FAT32 doesn't read over 127. Also, what seems to work best formatting wise...mutliple partitions of 32GB, just proper file sizing, etc to make it work efficiently. I'm surprised this thread hasn't flourished into a full on writeup of what works best, links of exactly what to buy, etc...not everyone has an iPod, and having 250GB of storage would be awesome!! Anyone wanna revise the parts list, and have we figured out how to avoid the unplug/plug requirement other than finding a switched 12v source?
  15. Would it be possible if you took that example of a step-by-step writeup and copy and pasted the directions on how to do this in that format? I'm sure myself and future users will take some of the fear out of doing this mod. Also, are the hiccups gone or does it still randomly show the screen...starting up in certain modes beforehand, pausing, etc. like others have mentioned.
  16. I'm trying to find out the same thing. I've put movies on both the root and into a "Movies" folder on the card, but neither shows the list option, names of the movie, etc. I downloaded and searched through the owner manual, but it says noting specific as to how the files should be placed onto the SD card. I'm wondering if I'm going to have the same issue when I try to do this viewtopic.php?f=32&t=25634 as I'd hate to sift through countless movies w/o knowing the name of the movie until I watch it for some undertermined amount of time before I figure it out.
  17. The performance doesn't seem improved at all, and I just noticed that playing movies from the SD card isn't functioning the same as it used to. If I threw both fullsize (700mb range) and converted (300mb range), it would adapt both movies to fill the screen no matter the resolution. It'll still playing fullsize movies like before (skips frames if the movie is too high of a resolution), but all my converted movies are only playing at like 1/2 the size of the whole screen. Also, I don't know what I'm doing wrong when I transfer movies onto the card, but it refuses to show the names of th
  18. Does this work on an F90BT? I'd love to be able to leave an external HDD in the glovebox, powered by a switched ignition source to avoid having to unplug/replug everytime. Is anyone willing to post ebay and Harbor Freight links to see exactly what someone would need to buy to do this?
  19. First MSN Direct is going away due to RDS being easier to implement, but even in such a "hi-end" radio, we can't get RDS to work somehow.
  20. So I broke down and downloaded the manual and adjust the setting so it mutes the voice of the navi, but it still mutes I think the SD and something else. Isn't there a way around this? I also have the keybeep muting done, but even the silence.wav file makes a change in the tone of the stereo. I'd still like to find something else that makes absolutely NO nose change whatsoever. Anyone?
  21. 19 pages...jesus christ my head hurts. The 1st post on this whole long ass thread needs to be edited w/ the current working links and a comprehensize step-by-step write up, something similiar I'm guessing to the .doc file that myself and a few others have downloaded...I just have yet to read it. After 19 pages of blah blah blah, I'm afraid of missing a single step and trying to sift through this madness in order to figure out what step I may have missed.
  22. Bump since I never got a reply to my Voice Command not talking until she doesn't understand me. On a side note, are there custom 3.0 upgrades that get rid of that option all together, and maybe a CPU clocker to make the stereo boot-up and react to touches faster?
  23. So I just read all 11 pages of this thread, and I still don't know what to do. Today I installed the Pioneer update to take my unit from 2.0 to like 2.00008 on my US F90BT, which was simply dropping in the SD card and it installed everything on it's own. I can download this .rar file from the 1st post, but then what the heck do it do with it? Is there an actual STEP-BY-STEP of how do to this that can be added to the 1st post for true newbies like myself who come here looking for specific how-to's? Everything from a link as to where to get the software to get into the stereo, how and wh
