  1. Ummmmmmmmm my personal phone(s) connects to the Z120 via BT - maybe yours does not.... There is only one way to use BT with the Z120 - you sync your phone/device, then use BT for things like calls or music streaming... Not sure why this concept is so difficult for you... Maybe read the manual??? While I personally don't believe in Wikis much, maybe this will help you with the basic concept...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth
  2. All communication via BT is crystal clear... Anything that goes into the "hard wired" external mic is garbage... Where it goes from there is relative. If it's sent to be processed by VR, it goes back to garbage in, garbage out. If it's sent to the BT call portion, it's still garbage in, garbage out - your caller will hear noise... At least it's predictable
  3. Read the posts - it is the MIC. BT for sound is wonderful. BT for calls sucks because it uses the external MIC. My phone has a feature that allows me to turn off BT for MIC (use the phone's mic) - with this off, the radio still mutes, but the phone is used for the call (via headset) - everything is crystal clear that way...
  4. I do not use the Z120 for BT calls due to the mic quality.
  5. I think everyone understands that software is a key piece of voice recognition. If you would read the posts, to me it is very very clear that there is an issue between the mic and its associated decoding (analog circuit - hardware). If you have a VERY noisy circuit (regardless of where that noise comes from), you would need very good noise cancellation circuitry/SW to clear that up (similar to what the Jawbones of the world do). Taking an analog mic input, and converting it is nothing more than trivial. This is the garbage-in portion of my garbage in = garbage out analogy. VR is
  6. If you had read the previous posts, you would realize that this thread has simply documented the fact that BT is very poor for calls. I highly doubt it is software - because they would have fixed it in the Z120 update. VR does not work for the same reason BT calls does not work - garbage in = garbage out........
  7. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would pledge money towards repair I know I'd throw $20 to that cause... I'm wondering if there are any "factory authorized" repair centers that could reflash a brick...
  8. It is the Ethernet port - but would need an adapter board - transformer + chip... Very common thing maybe in the dev world... I'm sure in the ARM JTAG world, ARM is ARM is ARM... I've managed a project in the ARM world (we ran Linux), and if you have some knowledge there - I'm hoping that may be sufficient Pioneer should be putting resources into this (not that it would ever in their world happen). A semi open-source (with proprietary *good* audio) project where people can choose software - would be huge in a car. Even taking out Android etc OS' - you get basically a PC in a car - WiF
  9. The ARM processor supports both Ethernet and JTAG... Connector/port CN4621 is the JTAG port (though I doubt they populated the actual connector once dev was done - but the pads are still there to solder a connector onto *if* it isn't already there...). Connector/port CN4401 is the Ethernet port. As above - I doubt they populated it - but for debugging/flashing et al, this is the high speed way to go... I'd probably solder a connector and build an external 'plug' if we ever move forward - reflashing at 100mb - mmmmmmmmmmmm Welcome aboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Correct - post this in the Z forums... BTW - the Z130 update is not what you think (READ the Z forum posts related). It is a specific update for Z130 - it does not change your Z120 into a Z130...
  11. From memory, iGo is very temperamental regarding sys.txt and display setup. You need the correct display setup in the correct spots of the file. Here's a great source for iGo sys.txt info.... http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?f=694&t=113311 Also note - data.zip must have the correct display driver.... One last add - don't run TTS (text to speech) from sys.txt yet (memory/resource hog)
  12. I would highly recommend reading posts on this site - *THEN* ask questions in the correct forum...................
  13. I'd love to hear from those trying new mics - in the past, no one has shown any real improvement - but it would be nice to know if it helps... The VR stuff *should not* work - for the same reason that others can't hear you (poor mic)... Personally, I like the user interface of the 120 - much nicer than the 110... I would've swapped mine out last month (had it sold on Craigslist) - but then saw that hacks are getting close. This is the only thing that stopped me from buying the new Sony... If we ever get the ability to add WinCE programs (and changing the GPS software to somet
  14. You guys seem to have this covered - hope it helps a bit... There are a few forums that are dedicated to random Chinese knock off systems (which have a very similar architecture). As this seems to be moving forward, maybe a few glances at what others have done may help?? From http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=121168 Safety first Be careful, changes you make could disable your device. Search for "brick" as in "I turned my GPS into a brick" on this site. You will find over a 1000 hits. Most manufacturers do not provide a way to get back to the original state. If you
  15. https://rs516l32.rapidshare.com/#!download|516dt|281150261|Pioneer_Avic-z110bt_Avic-f10bt_Service_Manual_Repair_Guide.pdf|26106 Here is a very detailed service manual - schematics, block diagrams et al. Its for the Z110 - but they clearly all share the same architecture. Note commands etc. It does look like there are 2 pieces working here... Enjoy!
  16. Are you guys sure the architecture isn't similar to all the Chinese / Asian stuff. Most of that runs a proprietary APP (on a secondary processor) for the Audio side, and WINCE (ARM 9/11) for the NAV/WIN side. This may be why some stuff is hard to find... May also explain why the updates must be in chunks Good luck either way (I'll be happy to contribute a beer to Condi once this thing starts smoking....)! I have the hardware service manual - I'll look through it tonight...
  17. Please don't forget about us poor Z120 people Looking forward to getting the TCP stack, USB WIFi driver, and IE running Also looking forward to running ODBII Scanguage type stuff... Also looking forward to iGo8 Also looking forward to no more GPS boot screen Keep up the good fight!
  18. I'd keep a good eye on the Z130 hacking thread - it looks like we may not be far away from being able to run your own Win apps (and there are many ODBII apps in the world).
  19. I highly suggest you read the threads on MSN. It is quite simply the most useless thing you could add to the Pioneer. The only positive I can think of - it makes the MSN button light up. The service itself is useless for traffic et al.
  20. It is ironic that Pioneer chose to name this Z120*BT* for Bluetooth. I can't imagine a $200 mic will do anything. I use $2 mics (wired) with my cell phone - they work fine. I've tried two mics, moved them - still very poor quality. Really your only choice is to disable it, and use your phone. Don't buy the thing if you need to use BT for calls (or if you use the voice commands)
  21. You read to read all the posts - from my understanding, a Z110 *can* be upgraded to F20 - it's just a case of loading those files instead (???). Not sure if anyone has actually done it though (you are right - price is cheap here...).
  22. Hello Everyone. I just recently purchased the Z120BT. I have been looking through this site for a week or so trying to educate myself before getting the unit installed. I have a couple question that I'm hoping you guys could help me with. 1. Are there any problems I should be aware of? (i.e. Mic quality, BT quality, GPS problems) 2. I would like to get a back-up cam installed also. Any recommendations for a cam that works well with this unit? 3. Anybody have any tips or tricks before getting the unit installed? Anything you guys would've done differently if given the chance? 1
  23. The Jawbone comes with different ear sets - small to large (off topic - no need to respond - but there should be something that works). Still off-topic - the JBII was much better than I, the III is far better - Cost is in the $100 range - but it really works (like wired- but better). There are noise canceling algorithms in the open source - for Pioneer to say they do this is kinda silly - though my guess is this info was created before it was implemented in the Z110/Z120/F10/F20 series... I've now: 1. Moved the mic (from steering column - right in front of your face - a location t
  24. I am more and more appreciating your short - and clear - responses It seems we (F10/F20 brethren included)are on a nice course that may mean the end to warning screens, the adoption of many WIN features (from other forums), and a more open platform. I'd doubt Pioneer gets it (marketing) - but the hacking of their unit will create more opportunities. Long term, a closed system dies due to both hand-held (Android) interface and tech moving forward. IMHO Kenwood/Pioneer/JVC need to move toward the Chinese new standard (open WINCE5,6,Mobile / coming Android). You keep the g
  25. It's funny - I saw somewhere a block-diagram showing the mic - and it had a 'circuit' for noise cancel (showing how it works great - and implying amazing sound) - clearly it was a marketing blurb... We use BT headsets that (paired with a phone) work amazingly. Currently (wife and I) have moved to the Jawbone III. A good BT headset cancels noise very well (even with windows down) - this thing does not cancel noise - it amplifies it. Our Lexus GX (stock NAV) has *very* good clarity - close to a real mic (wired - located near rear-view mirror) - and works great for everyone in the car
