  1. which versions of the navi do these discs support?
  2. No 1-DIN ?? Despair. Hopefully they make something for us standard guys in the future. Even with an N4 I'd shell out for this.
  3. I just finished an install and can confirm this is correct. On my 2005 Z4, I got the speed pulse wire at Pin 6 in the cluster harness, a yellow / green-stripe wire. It produces 1 pulse for every .5 MPH, forward or backward, and is extremely accurate. My N4 entered 3D Hybrid mode after about 3 minutes of driving and the Avic gauges are now more 'realtime' accurate than my speedo! Love it. BMW uses universal wiring (why don't more companies?) so this information should be the same for all Z4 (E85 & E86) models. Enjoy!
  4. The black/white wire will not work, thats part of the CAN BUS and is not compatible with an aftermarket unit like the Avics. I just finished an install and can confirm this is correct. 5. It depends entirely on the vehicle. I just finished mine and would describe it exactly as you just did. The back of the trim ring sits flush with the dash kit, which leaves two small slits exposed on the left and right side. Its not ugly or terrible or even a botched install, but its just not... perfect. After some measuring, I realized mine was sitting flush with the Metra dash kit, and it was designed that way due to lack of clearance behind the radio. The rear of the thing was compressing the cables against the dash wall as it was, there wasn't room for another half inch of space
  6. bump guys, help us out here.
  7. bumping this... does the black/white wire from the radio harness work as a VSS wire? Can anyone confirm? I have a Z4, and the radio does change volume as speed increases.
  8. Looking for VSS and Reverse wires for a 2005 BMW Z4 3.0i Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  9. Remove the HU, take pics of the connectors on the back, post them here, and we can see what we can do. Without actually seeing one, I have no idea. I didn't even know ford oem's pioneer units. See what help a little extra info is? Thanks.
  10. Yeah, look on a Ford forum, not an Avic forum. Duh. It can likely be done by grounding out the motion sensors. Its like that on Toyota/Lexus navis, tho I have no experience with ford ones so can't say for sure. This is the wrong place to be asking tho.
  11. So if I didn't care about these little reminders, I could use a cheap PNR1 on a new AVIC N4 with the same interface as the newer one? Please?
  12. I'm in the market for an N4 now. Anyone have any killer deals or recommendations for websites to get one cheaply? I see they are going for just over $1100 now on eBay. One went for as little as $950, but I don't see that happening much. So, who has found a good place to get one? Thanks!
  13. I got 2 brand new ones from my local CC for $12.96 each tonight. I have no idea why the price discrepancy vs other posters, but thats still super low. Obviously, I got the last 2 in stock. The people working there had no idea about the clearance, and were initially confused. I told them I read online these were selling for a bargain, and he let me continue to check out. Got one for my D3 and future N4 now. I wasn't even planning on getting XM, but with these prices, why not. Now I just gotta pay XM their blood money.
  14. Under the dash, above and behind the head unit. Just check it first with the unit turned on to make sure you're getting a good signal. I actually went through the pains to mount mine at the back of my roof, but the cord was too short! I started by placing the antenna where I wanted it, and ran the cable all the way down the panels and through the floorboards, and it only came out to the passenger wheel well, about 2 feet short, argh! This is for an SUV of course, but still, grrrr. That said, it works fine where I put it, receiving what looks like 70-80% signal at most times. Pio
  15. i did the bypass just like in the sticky and it works at any speed. just becomes some people can't figure it out or can't install it correctly doesn't make the info wrong.
  16. so, you really think they will be socket mounted like in your pc? have you ever looked at any piece of electronics outside of your pc? i will bet you $100 on the spot that it is surface mount simms. enjoy removing those and adding more ram. which you can't use.
  17. remove the yellow/black mute wire and move it up 1 pin to the correct location for the bypass. then grab the yellow/black wire and the light green parking brake wire AND the long black wire with the spade, and cut them all off at the same length, equivalent to the other wires. solder all 3 wires together and to the ground wire from your factory harness. add some shrink tubing and viola. bypass the correct way.
  18. Unless you have brain damage or parkinsons, you can do this yourself. Seriously. To do the bypass, you tie 3 wires together. Its not that hard. I encourage MOST people to also do their full install. If Metra makes a wiring harness for your car, and you've ever even heard of soldering iron before, you can do it. I do respect that there are some cars that are harder than others, but if there is a wiring bracket for your application, you can do it.
  19. No, really, I get it when people buy from BB/CC: if you're willing to pay for it, you can get a sweet extended warranty, no hassles on it, and those stores are everywhere. But, what good is a warranty from crutchfield in comparison, where you would have to uninstall your unit and mail it off anyway? It could be a better process than that, that's just what I imagine it is. I've never used them as I feel their prices aren't competitive, so I could be out of line here. If I was a user who was afraid to touch my install, then I wouldn't want to have to deal with that for a warranty claim
  20. Works for me. DVD playback @ 60MPH. Just gotta not kill anyone now.
  21. Uh, lots of shops are offering them for $800-$850, and you don't have to buy $100s of dollars of other stuff to get that price like Crapfield. I don't know why people still use them, really. If you want to pay retail, just go to BB or CC. Just pick one up from MisFit or any other local who gets them for invoice. As I understand it, retailer invoice on this unit is as low as $700. I got mine for $800 shipped, and that's not even the best price out there now. Read some of the 'best price' threads that already exist.
