  3. In may - I called three this month, all in California (of the few that are left). I guess your people know something I don't lol
  4. were you updating a x920 or z120? Which file did you use for the update, the Z version?
  5. Kenwood doesn't allow Al & Ed's to advertise their units online anymore as A&E uses "price-matching". You can purchase from them in-store, but the last three I phoned were at best $100 below retail, which puts a 9960 at $1700. Oh, there's a rebate, so $1550. And all "authorized" dealers I called have been just about the same. If you want un-authorized, or used, then yes, it will be cheaper, but there's no warranty. So, to get VR from a Kenwood, and warranty, I would have to spend 3 times as much as I did for the Pioneer. I agree about Alpine - too many freakin' add-ons drives th
  6. there's every chance that the Pioneer will turn out to be crap, but I'm rolling the dice because, if I'm one of the lucky 50%, then it cost one-third the price of the Kenwood. If I have to send it back, well, by then maybe Caska will have improved their GUI . . . lol
  7. this is a problem alot of people have, and then alot don't - start searching this forum for "bluetooth", and also contact Pioneer tech support and complain.
  8. and there's no impedence mis-match that could damage the head unit over time?
  9. nope,i have not had any real trouble with my unit, other than the occasional glitch where the phone buttons dont show up during a call, but that doesn't even really bother me. most people are happy with their units because it much better than what they have had before, and if they have not had or used a better unit, then they would never know how good it could be, as an installer, i had get to play around with many many different companies and pioneer ranks as one of the worse(of major companies, cheap china crap doesnt count) in every aspect, the software is glitchy and badly designed, inputt
  10. I went up to the local auto sound shop, where they have working demos of both Kenwood and Pioneer in-dash nav units. Both would play IPOD video, but neither would play ANYTHING off the iPad. For that matter, I think they both locked up when the connection was made. Obviously, Apple has yet-again changed the pin assignment of the multi-connector. Has anyone heard of any fixes for this - it would be cool to have iPad data as a video option.
  11. You don't have to have an unusually bad experience to know when something just isn't as good. but I know you DID have a bad experience with your Bluetooth, correct? The best thing I found about the Kenwood was its FM implementation - but since FM seems passe these days, nobody notices.
  12. even with a properly operating pioneer, the interface is complete garbage, it took many mod to make the units acceptable, and even then its only acceptable because of its price (half of its MSRP) basically if your willing to settle to save some cash, then pioneers the brand for you, if you want a really good system, then you need to be prepared to spend for it I partly believe that, but at the same time, many auto manufacturers have done good jobs with their OEM systems: VW, Ford, BMW .... It seems odd that there are so few aftermarket companies that can step up to the plate, so to
  13. what is the extension that the Pioneer understands? Does it understand more than one - .avi. divx. mp4 etc? also, what resolution are you finding works best
  14. Price on a x920BT just dropped to $820 at Amazon - plus a 30% discount and a $100 rebate brings it down to $475 I think. $750 for the Z120BT with the same discounts applied.
  15. thanks - I read that thread - sorry, should have mentioned that. Used a Divx converter - nothing would play. I don't think that thread mentioned if extensions should be .divx or .avi, and which converter was preferred
  16. yeah, I second that request - what format, how did you convert, framerate, extensions etc thanks
  17. cool - I'll call them. They told me that Kenwood didn't want their product on A&E's website since they "price-match". I wonder what the price is over-the-phone?
  18. Please post some links where we can find a 9960 for $1300 - at least from an "authorized" seller. I couldn't find any less than $1800 (if they were authorized). At $1300, that would at least be worth a look. Still, when OEM units range between $1200 and $1800, and we all know that OEM units have traditionally been overpriced, it would seem that Kenwood doesn't think it has any competition. NAVTEQ with "advertisements" that you can't turn off, even if you send them money? I just wish these crazy Chinese brands like Caska would clean up their GUI's, work on their reliability and give these
  19. Bear in mind that only people with problems chat it up in these forums. There are people I've talked to in other forums who claim their Pioneer's are completely accurate, and have no Bluetooth problems. I'd bag a Pioneer while they are super-discounted at Amazon, and if you don't like it, return it. Amazon is usually quite supportive of products that don't function properly. Kenwood's almost NEVER go on sale, and in my opinion, are wildly over-priced. So what, they have Garmin - for $140 you can buy a Garmin portable with lane assist and text-to-speech (including free lifetime traffic).
  20. thanks for the resend. So, did you put a LOC between the Pioneer and the Bose amp? Someone suggested the difference in impedence might be bad for the Pioneer (if there is a difference) - any worries there?
  21. And another week of sales . . . until September 11. Watch for "lightning deals" mid-week http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=pe_69560_16 ... PDKIKX0DER Code: QBRW8JOL
  22. you know, these nav units, across the board are a crapshoot at best. We just drove up to central California, in a brand new Jetta with OEM nav, and roads that have been there for 60 years, and lakes that have been there since the ice age were not present on the map system used by VW. As far as the nav was concerned, we were driving through the forest.
