  1. Success! Thanks pionara and condi! I didn't have the PRG flag, so I copied PRG0 to PRG1, edited the navi.exe in PRG1, put PRG.FLG on the Avic, and I now boot out of PRG1, with the software bypass and the splash screen hack. I thought this would be the "safest" way to do this, as I could pretty easily go back to my untouched PRG0 if something went wrong. Having an "uncrippled" Avic is so nice. I'm not going to start watching movies while I drive, but I'm pretty happy to be able to use the navigation properly.
  2. Cool - I'm not crazy then. I'll try testmode tomorrow. Can't imagine why it wouldn't work. But I'll report back either way.
  3. OK, So the unit is a Z120 that has been upgraded to the the 130 and now 140. I went into the level 3 debug mode (POSEIDONDBG ON), and I am able to go into the maintenance window by pressing the top of the screen within the navigation menu. I go into "file manager", and copied the navi.exe from the PRG0 folder onto an SD card. I edited that file to do both the software bypass and the splash screen bypass. Now, I cannot replace the navi.exe file that is in use when I go back to the unit. When I choose "Apl Exit", it just goes to a blank screen because I haven't launched explorer(beca
  4. No, I thought the idea was that you can do it using the "hidden debug menus" without going into testmode.
  5. I'm missing something. Is the debug menu the same as the maintenance menu/screen? I don't see windows explorer on that screen, just file manager.
  6. Again, I'm being a bit silly and careless, but I'm also a bit out of my depth. Thanks for your patience and help. It didn't copy over because I didn't exit the navi. I didn't get an error message so I thought it was done properly. So... how do I launce explorer in the backgound? Apl Exit just gets me to a blank screen, and I have to restart. Just going in to File Explorer doesn't let me overwrite the (active) navi.exe file.
  7. Alright, got it back to a working Z140, used the debug mode to copy the edited navi file, and yet I don't see the extra icon. Unit still working normally... That's odd.
  8. Before I do more stupid things, does it exit debug mode on restart?
  9. Crap, I'm stupid and impatient, so I went ahead and tried, and now I'm stuck. Have to kick it out of upgrade mode and do it properly.
  10. If one edits the navi.exe file before doing the upgrade to z140, would that work? It'd be easier for me, then I don't have to worry about testmode, just the edit.
  11. Thanks for all the work on this! I have an X920 and a Z120, both of which had been upgraded to x30 I used pionara's super-easy method, and they are both now x40 Only problem(unrelated to upgrade) is that the X940 bluetooth isn't working, and it seems from some older threads here that's it's a hardware problem. Grrrr!
  12. Just a bump, as I'm having the same problem. Bluetooth had been working intermittently for me. When I go into bluetooth settings, most of the choices are greyed out, yet every now and then my phone pairs. We have two iPhone 4s, one with 6.0.1, and one with 5.0, and both had been working fine until a couple of weeks ago. I did the CNSD update, and tried updating to 3.24, but I get the "an error has occurred update has failed" also, and the firmware version from the service settings page is "--------" Any suggestions anyone?
  13. Hi all, I also just checked this thread recently. Downloaded and updated my X920 and Z120. Thanks for all the hard work and instructions on this, worked like a charm, for the most part. Like some others in the past, I had an error to the effect of "invalid SD card" - but a re-format fixed whatever the problem was. So if anyone else has this issue, just try again, it should work. Thanks all!
  14. Good points. If not for the need of a DVD player, the entire unit could be solid-state, no moving parts at all, which would make it much easier/cheaper to build these units. I know you don't actually need a dvd player, but it's still the standard for most people, so you don't have to deal with ripping stuff to you iPod/iPhone/etc. But I don't think we're too far from some pure solid state devices (which also means they will no longer need to be 6" deep either). We'll have some really small great devices.
  15. The problem with that type of navigation is cellular coverage. There's plenty of places with spotty or non-existant coverage. Last year, I was on the Taconic Parkway in NY, there was a detour due to an ice storm, and off the highway I had no signal so I couldn't use nav on my phone (this was before I got my AVIC). And the fact is, that is exactly the type of situation that nav is at its most useful.
