1. i think some people are getting too hung up on the "specific " wire they use for the new bypass. The wire you use makes absolutley no difference at all. Its just a matter of grounding a pin that came to you in the box with no wire attatched. So any wire you insert into that slot and then ground will work for ya.
2. you guys should check this out http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1770
3. yea ive been glued to elf .... while waiting in parking lots, between classes and of course never while driving
4. Dude you would be way better off to just spend the $35 for ductiboys bypass circuit. If you return the z1 to circuit city you have to pay either a 10% or 15% restocking fee. And ducatis circuit is really simple to install on an unrelated note.. ducati i see you are now moderator of all z1 forums....good on you :)
5. i have an 04 silverado. im not sure what your dash is like but all the sites also said that the z1 would not fit my truck. Well the fact that i installed it in just a few hours with noting more than a few handtools says differently. the only issue is the depth. everyone else with similar truck has had to break off a few pieces of plastic. but i can assure you this does not weaken your dash or your mounting area. and you only need to remove a few very small peices. I swore to myself that i was gunna take a million great pics and document the install, but the batteries in the camera were de
6. the bypass for july units where you can ground the bottom right pin on the white #2 connector.
7. Thatnks for the clarification. I think its worth the risk and the expense just to change that splash screen. I hate that thing lol I have been playing with several background images but you dont really see them that much, i mean if your map is up or a dvd or basically anything you just see that menu. if your just listening to music you can hide that screen and see your image though. But looking at that pioneer spash screen for however long it boots is a little annoying.
8. There has been so much information about the hard drive that i am a little confused after reading all the posts. Can anyone confirm or deny any of this? 1) we have established that you can unlock the drive, via the webpage tool mentioned in the sticky. 2) once the drive is unlocked and you edit the registry, you can then install and remove and power up and down the drive and it will not relock? 3) we can upload a different splassh screen image? 4)although we cannot upload mp3's directly, we can upload background images? ok i think thats all im unclear about. If anyone kno
9. i used the cell phone mute wire for my july unit and i also have the bt adapter. i have had no problems at all. Well except for the fact that the microphone really sucks but what can ya do right? lol
10. well the short answer is this... if you have a july unit you dont need either of these. you can bypass all the security issues just by grounding 2 wires. but to answer your question, the tr7 and the ducatiboy circuits are not the same thing. They both do the same thing just in a slightl;y different way. you could need two tr7's where you would definatly only need 1 ducatiboy circuit. but if you search this forum you will find super easy instructions on how to bypass your july unit without the need to buy anything. hope this helps and welcome to the forum.
11. i remember reading in the instruction bible, lol , it said only 200 were allowed. but im sure you could have alot of 200 image discs
12. thats exactly what it was. i was using windows to burn the cd. i tried nero and it worked first time. as for what i meant by the avic "seeing"the cd it displayed a message something like cd rom inserted but the icon was greyed out. but its working now since i used nero. by the way what is the size for the full screen? to make the pic cover edge to edge? does anyone know off the top of their head? well the avic rocks and im very glad i have it :D
13. I have been having trouble uploading images to the z1. I make the disc and load a few hundred megs of data. the z1 sees the cd. But when i try to get a new picture from the disc the import from cd is greyed out.. any ideas???
14. its an add on that will allow you to control the z1 with your factory steering wheel remote buttons. a big plus is that you can then have a mute button!
15. my samsung sch-i730 works fine also. Its a pocket pc smartphone. I had to upload contacts 1x1 but all is fine otherwise.
16. ahh thats a good point. Since there was not meant to be a wire in there in the first place, when the installer put it in it could be loose or not seated in all the way. now why couldnt i think of that? lol
17. Ok i am all hooked up and installed. Everything is great. Everything works fine. I have the july 06 model so i grounded the extra wire and now i can use all the nav functions while driving. I just cant seem to get the illumination wire right. I have an 04 chevy silverado and that seems to be a common issue. My wire conversion kit, the one to keep the warning chimes has two ill wires. One is labled ill, and one is dimmer ill. I have tried both and even both together, lol, i was desperate. Still no luck for me. I need to search the forums better. Im sure someone has figured this out. Also is the
18. I grounded both the super secret mystery wire and the parking brake wire to the same ground. I have had no problem at all. Maybe your ground is loose.
19. I ordered a z1 about 4 months ago. When i got it, it was all scratched up and looked like it was used as a soccer ball. I ordered it from ebay. Of course all i got from the seller was sorry it wasn't like that when i shipped it. So i decided to call pioneer just to see what they would do. To my shock they said to send it to them and they would send me a new one. So i did. And i waited, and waited, and waited, Finally about 2 weeks ago i get a check for $2300. Its from pioneer. They said they lost my unit while it was in for repairs so they gave me a refund. I would have been very happy with ju
20. here are some pics of the z1 in an 04 silverado
21. i have an 04 silverado. i woudl think our dash is the same. from everything i have found in research the opening is fine the problem is that there are some plastic pieces behind the stereo location that have to be removed.. ie broken off. but i have lots of pictures of this unit in a silverado with no dash modslemme know if your interested in seeing them.
22. hey whos the guy in md who would do it for 150?? i live in maryland. pm me
23. well anything is possible if your installers are talented enough. You could have the avic spinning in circles and spitting quarters if you really wanted. but to answer your question the faceplate cover is probobly not hard just tedious. the chain.. i dunno but you could have your installer fab a metal fram inside your dash to attach the unit to.. this would require someone to rip your dash out to get the unit. this would probobly mean you woudl need to replace alot more than a raio if someone wanted it badly enough. but they can both happen.
24. so hows your reception with teh 5700? i too am getting this part.
