  1. Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP doesn't support album art
  2. Where are you guys seeing a map update for the 8000NEX?
  3. Which android stick are you using? (I'm assuming you are referring to ARUnchained) I'm currently trying to use my OnePlus One with Chromecast but it doesn't work that great. I've thought about buying a cheap android stick though.
  4. Oh, you mean like Parrot? Their new head unit has a 720p IPS screen and runs the very latest Android OS (5.0, Lollipop) plus 55w (x4) amplifier. I don't think it has an optical drive though.
  5. Scott, I understand what you're saying and we will probably never know the truth, but I really don't think that's the case here. I think the reason no one has added CarPlay to older units is because there is little incentive for manufacturers to add features to older units. Instead, they would rather make new hardware where they can make money. There might also be other reasons such as software incompatibility (i.e. older headunits running Windows CE might not support CarPlay). This situation is different because the NEX series already runs Android. Somebody hacked the 8000 NEX and dum
  6. Hmmm, I'm really disappointed in Pioneer forcing customers to purchase a new head unit just for Android Auto support. Is there anything else different between the units? It's been proven that the NEX series runs on Android so hopefully we can just hack the firmware and still use the "old" model. Either that, or I'll absolutely be selling this head unit for the new Parrot Android system that's coming out. I still can't believe that Pioneer would screw customers that paid over $1400 for a car stereo though by not providing them an update.
  7. OK... So I just "Reset All Settings" after updating to v1.08 and USB video resume started working! There is a definitely a bug somewhere, but I'm glad it's working again for me. I'm afraid to update the USB stick though... (with more songs/videos)
  8. I've upgraded my AVIC-8000NEX to v1.08 and USB video files are still not resuming. For example, if I start playing a movie then stop the engine, when I turn it back on, a different video play (the first video on the USB memory stick) and it always starts at the very beginning. I thought v1.08 would fix this but it doesn't. However, I know some people have it working so I'm wondering... what USB devices are you using for playback? Have you tested both audio and video resume? Which USB port are you using?
  9. Can anybody else confirm that the USB audio/video playback is fixed?
  10. I tried modifying my previously working USB stick and it still doesn't work. (i.e. I added new files to the USB stick hoping that the unit would re-index it and possibly fix the resume functionality, but it still doesn't work) Pioneer is still telling me it works on their end.
  11. I had a bug where I couldn't press the [OK] button on the navigation nag screen until I switched sources. For example, 1) Go to navigation screen. Unable to press [OK] 2) Go to SiriusXM screen. 3) Go back to navigation screen. Now the [OK] button works. This seems to be fixed... Also, is it just me or are the arrows on the map of the navigation a little different than before?
  12. Hmmm, I might try an experiment. I'm going to try to change the files on my USB stick to force the unit to update it's index and see if it plays better. I also got a response from Pioneer saying they couldn't replicate the issue and that USB play/resume was working fine for them.
  13. I have about 40 videos on a USB memory stick and I have the same problem. I don't have thousands or anywhere even to that. Also, I believe you are incorrect about how the unit creates the index. I think when you first insert the USB device (or SD card), it says "Reading... 0%" and it could take a very long time. It is at that point I believe it's creating an index. (that's how you can browse by artist name, etc, because of the index created BEFORE you can play anything)
  14. I have this same problem and it's a huge problem for me. I have my rear DVD players (in the head rests for the kids) and I use USB1 to play movies for them and now when I turn off the car, it doesn't even remember the same movie! It goes back to the first movie on the USB drive and starts at the beginning. Incredibly annoying...
  15. Thanks for the information. I've connected my DVD headrests and I can confirm what you said. The speakers in the car only play the "main zone" audio but if the rear a/v unit (i.e. my DVD headrests) supports it's own audio output that will work. (i.e. headphones)
  16. Yes, I haven't used the 4000 model but I've used the previous model (AVH-X8500BHS). Before purchasing my 8000, I contacted Pioneer asking if the LCD screen used in the 4000 was the same as the X8500BHS and they said "they believe it is the same screen". Based on that information and many first-hand reports from other people comparing the 4000 and 8000, I think it's safe to say that the 8000 is much brighter. However, as you point out, I don't have any specific numbers to compare it to...
  17. I've purchased some DVD headrests for my car and I'm going to connect them to my AVIC-8000NEX using the rear a/v out cables, but I was wondering how the head unit plays audio for the rear units. For example, if I select "DVD" for the rear output, will it also play the DVD audio through the rear speakers in my car while allow music (SiriusXM or HD Radio) on the front speakers?
  18. Is it possible to watch these live?
  19. Just wondering, but is anybody making any progress on decompiling the APK? The possibility of having a secret debug menu that enables USB OTG and a ADB console on one of the exposed USB ports is very exciting. Having access to a full android system and adding custom applications (Google Maps, etc) would be fantastic! @bushing: I'm just wondering, but are you an electrical engineer? I'm a "lowly" software developer and only know the very basics about UARTs, JTAG, etc, and I've love to learn more about reverse engineer and that field of electronics. Your posts have really inspired me
  20. @bushing: You mentioned that you think a secret debug button exists similar to the parking brake bypass. Did you try reversing it from the standpoint of searching for the "SET ON" message that is displayed during the bypass? Maybe if you found that then you would find the code containing other secret bypass buttons, etc. Also, I really appreciate and enjoy reading your blog posts. I'm glad that you are describing everything instead of just saying "I'm working on it"! I just hope that Pioneer doesn't change the system after the update disabling some of the methods you are using to reve
  21. I'm just wondering, but how do you know they are using iGo? Do you have a source?
  22. Has anybody had the "Parking brake wired incorrectly" message appear even after wiring the bypass? I'm using the 8000NEX and have had it happen twice, both times after turning off the car to fill it with gas, and then turning it back on it. I've soldered the parking brake wire to ground and used heat-shrink tubing to prevent shorts so I know it's wired correctly and securely. Not a big deal, but it's still weird that I still see the message (albeit very rarely)
  23. You are bushing from failoverflow? I highly respect you and your work! Thanks for the extremey interesting blog! I'm a software developer myself but don't have experience at the low-level systems like you using. I've used JTAG interfaces before but still don't really have much experience with them. I'm really, really looking forward to see what progress you make! It sounds like you might even be able to root the device and/or modify the Pioneer menu systems to install other Android apps, etc.
  24. I can't speak for rear video, but if I'm watching a video on the head unit and the GPS is about to give an instruction, it will automatically switch from the video to the GPS display for a couple of seconds, and then after the turn is made it will switch back to the video. It works perfectly!
  25. Yeah, I think so... Here is the link to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451980
