Ok, thanks. My only complaint is that my steering wheel track buttons don't skip between radio station presets. Instead, they skip by frequency one by one. However, it does work fine with Bluetooth or iPod control. If I manually change my steering wheel adapter then the Bluetooth and iPod doesn't skip right. It does seem to be specific to pioneer because the kenwood deck did skip between presets using the same adapter...

Gotcha, thanks! Last question... Besides the price, what is your thoughts on the AVH-X8500BHS versus the AppRadio 2? The 8500 offers a bunch more features but lacks capacitive screen and dedicated GPS. I wonder if there is a difference in screen quality?

Thanks... That's what I was thinking. The convience of a built-in Navigation is nice so you don't have to plug-in the phone everytime but I do agree that the quality of the software is probably much, much better on the phone. Are you pretty happy with your AppRadio 2 + iPhone 5 setup? I have an AVH-X8500BHS but I'm sorta thinking about going with an AppRadio 2 because of the capacitive touchscreen but I don't want to lose SiriusXM (built-in), etc. (I also purchased a Kenwood DNX890HD to compare with but besides the Garmin nav the receiver is really, really terrible...)

I have an AVH-X8500BHS and am using "Advanced App Mode" with my iPhone 5. Is it possible to also use an AVIC-U250 Navigation unit and keep my iPhone 5 advanced app mode? ...or do they conflict and I have to use one or the other? I'm thinking about just upgrading to the Z150 but it has limitations with video files (see other topics) and the interface seems a bit older than the X8500BHS... Thoughts?

Hmmm, I'll have to experiment a bit then but that sounds fantastic. If I understand correctly, you can be in App Mode lookin at Waze, but then change SiriusXM or FM radio tracks without leaving Waze? For some reason my iPhone 5 doesn't seem to work like that with my X8500BHS. Also, you're idea of leaving an iPhone 4 inside the car has me really intruigied. To be honest, it seems like the Z-series isn't where the new development for Pioneer is focused. Sure they tweaked the interface a little, but the AVH-X8500BHS (and the P8400BH before it) seem to be where all the new features are added, etc. Anyways, I was thinking about switching to Kenwood (DNX890HD) for Garmin navigation but it doesn't even support media playback from an SD card. Sigh. I really do love my AVH-X8500BHS but AppRadio is a bit of a pain and I'd rather have HU Navi so I can do split-screen video, etc.

I'm really disappointed by the limited playback resolution on the Z-150. Why does their "flagship" unit have a much, much lower playback resolution than the X8500BHS? The X8500BHS supports 720p video resolution and 8 Mbps bitrate...

Yeah, I've been reading the Z-150 bypass thread and it seems like most people are having random issues like you mentioned. That seems to be a pretty big drawback but I'm willing to bet that somebody will solve it Have you compared the Z-150 to the X8500BHS? The only differences seems to be the navigation and swipe gestures (to change tracks, etc) but the X8500BHS seems a bit more powerful. For example, the Z-150 only supports something like 400x280 resolution videos on an SD card but the X8500BHS supports 720p videos, etc. (However, both displays are the still only 800x480)

Has anybody tried the new AVIC Z150BH yet? I've tried last year's model (Z140BH) but it was quite slow and the 8400 model seemed much, much better but didn't have any navigation. I'm interested in the X8500BHS vs Z150BH. I've tried the X8500BHS and it's really nice but I think I want a built-in navi instead of using my iPhone.

I've re-read the documentation and it sounds like if you use the Lightning Digital A/V adapter, then you can't navigate using the iPod menu and you have to use the iPhone itself (or the AppRadio applications like CarMediaPlayer). However, you can simply plug a lightning usb cable directly into the unit and then AppRadio will NOT work, but the iPod features will, so what I'm thinking of doing is using both USB plugs on the back of the unit. I'm getting my new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS w/iPhone 5 AppRadio Mode and I'd love to try this with AppRadio Extensions (my iPhone 5 is jailbroken on 6.1.2). However, it looks like it doesn't work yet, right? Is there any benefit to using AppRadio extensions or DisplayOut right now? Using the regular HDMI cable and Lightning Digital A/V adapter you can already mirror the iPhone screen...

I'm buying an AVH-X8500BHS when it comes out later this month, but after reading the manual (which is available online), it says that lightning devices DO NOT WORK with the iPod mode. It's really disappointing because the iPhone seems to have taken two steps forward and two steps backwards with their recent changes... (On a side note, I'm somewhat thinking about switching to Android now...)

I've seen somebody setup the AppRadio like this: Equipment: *) AppRadio in car *) AppleTV in car *) AirPort Express (or cheaper wifi access point) in car Setup: *) AppleTV is connected using HDMI to AppRadio. *) iOS device (iPhone/iPad) is connected to AppleTV using AirPlay for wireless audio/video streaming. Well, I mostly agree but here are the differences I've found: iPhone Voice Control SiriusXM TuneStart, TuneScan, replay, etc Advanced App Mode for iPhone 5 + Android (HDMI input) However, I bet the processor and mostly everything inside is basically the same as the 8400 like you mentioned, but I am looking forward to the couple of new features the did add.

While waiting for my AVH-X8500BHS (which is pre-ordered), I've been looking over the manual and I found some really disappointing news. When using the lightning connector, you can ONLY play audio and video through the Advanced App Mode and you can't use the Pioneer iPod controls. That means you either have to use the Advanced App Mode application called "CarMediaPlayer" to play your content, or you need to control it yourself on the iPhone. This is really disappointing because I was hoping to use the car stereo interface to navigate my songs and videos (using link search, etc). Re

I'm a little confused on this... The lightning digital a/v adapter can output both audio and video over HDMI, so what is this about it not being able to pass audio? I know that HDMI isn't analog audio, but it can be PCM (digital; uncompressed) which I would have expected the Pioneer receiver to handle since it's not compressed like Dolby Digital or DTS, etc. The only thing I'm unsure of is how it's passing the touch-screen information between the two devices... (is it using the HDMI audio channel maybe?!)

Why does the manual say 8,000 kbps (maximum) for MPEG-4 and H.264? It seems like that's a typo and meant to be 800 Kbps?

I have a very strange problem with my AVH-P8400BH and my GEX-P920XM: When I select "XM" on the head unit, I can select different stations ("80s on 8", "90s on 9", etc") and it correctly tunes to the XM station. After it's tuned it then displays the artist and song, etc... However, there is no music that plays out of the speakers! I know the stereo is working because I can use the FM tuner (or my iPhone, etc) and it plays audio just fine. I did test the GEX-P920XM inside my house (using a 12v PSU and this same exact stereo) because installing it into my car and it worked so I d

I've just installed a Pioneer AVH-P8400BH in my 2011 Toyota RAV4 and I have a questions... 1) The screen is very dim in sun-light. The unit isn't even in direct sun-light but it's very dark and with my sun-glasses on it's almost impossible to see. I've adjusted the "Dimmer" setting to full brightness but it still didn't help. Is there anything else I can do? Are other units (Kenwood, etc) also like this? 2) If I'm using my iPhone (in Advanced App Mode) with a GPS application like MotionX, I can still use the unit's HD Radio to listen to music, etc. However, it won't automatically

I've purchased an AVH-P8400BH that should be here today and I'd like to test it inside my house before installing it into my car... In the past I've used a computer power supply for the +5V, +12V, etc, so I could power the head unit and play around with it, etc. However, I obviously don't have a parking brake inside my house so how can I bypass this? I've heard a simple on/off switch works but how can I wire that?

Have you tried one in person? The interface is horribly slow and was driving me nuts... (after playing with the 670[?]BT in a Best Buy store) I really, really wanted to buy before I tried it because the feature set looks perfect.

Yeah, the scrolling is definitely a bit laggy. For example, press down on the source selection (left side of touch screen) and start moving your finger up or down. The list won't start scrolling until you move a decent amount and after it starts moving the list jumps to your current finger position and it's just not very smooth. However, my main concern is with skipping several tracks in a row.
