  1. Glad it's working again Re recording a cd, it shouldn't matter, usually it just continues where it left off... However, things can always go wrong of course, though it's quite unlikely I'd sooner expect a problem with one of the stored settings or so, which were now re-initialised after the reset
  2. See page 179 onwards.... (reset method 4) http://www.pioneerel...nManual0228.pdf (note that this will also clear any music, adresses, phonebook etc. you might have on your harddisk. Alternatively you can first try method 3... )
  3. I would first try a full level 4 reset..... Re the harddisk, you don't have to remove the HU. You can just replace it with the screen folded down.... re new drive, check here, recommended by all on this forum: http://avic411.com/i...ives-2010-maps/ http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/14650-service-update-your-avic-z123-hdd-to-2010-maps-50/

    simple question

No, it's VERY specific to these Pioneer units, and even only to the American units....
  5. On the "navi settings" screen (manual page 158) you can check if the signal for lights on/off is working.... Also you can select if the unit automatically switches between day and night settings (page 169) re the gps antenna, on some cars the windscreen is coated with a thin metallic layer for heat resistance, this would block the gps signals.... As a test you could temporarily mount the antenna outside...
  6. An additional problem is probably that most of the larger, cheaper SSD's are SATA which are not useable for the Pioneer......
  7. Also take care that the GPS antenna is mounted horizontally, top side up, and preferably on a metal base. Also make sure there's no metal between the top of the antenna and the sky, otherwise it won't receive any satelites. Plastic is no problem.
  8. see the manual, page 98 and onwards http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_11221/420272362AVICZ2OperationManual0228.pdf you can also try a complete reset, but that clears all music etc. from the harddisk (page 180 etc. )
  9. Make sure you reset all the calibration settings...
  10. Maybe one (or more) speakers blown ?
  11. Update frequency of the display will be much higher with speedpulse (Vss) connected, system will also react more timely to turnoffs etc, and work beter in city canyons (in between high buildings), where GPS reception is problematic....

    Hide the screen

    Also commercialy available http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/items/__dummy+double+din_W0QQ_dmdZ2?clk_rvr_id=320167163467&crlp=8573863615_228459_228459&UA=%3F*I%3F&GUID=674bd8981350a0aa12a55b65fdc79c99&agid=2186988535&tm_kw=dummy+double+din&siteid=3&MT_ID=10&tt_encode=raw&keyword=dummy+double+din&geo_id=21&ff4=228459_228459
  13. I don't know for sure, but I doubt you can exchange software between Japanese and US versions. Probably there are internal hardware differences, like the radio. It's not even possible to switch firmware between European and US versions, so I would think the same applies to US and Japanese.....
  14. A number of functions (such as inputting destination) can only be used if you have the handbrake applied, unless you bypass the unit. This is a security feature. Also check that you have good gps reception, and have the Vss speedpulse hooked up. Also if it is a used (2nd hand unit), you have to reset the calibration (from the relevant menu), as it won't be correct for your car.
  15. It's important to have the speedpulse (Vss) hooked up.....
  16. I'm a bit confused, did you flash the firmware of the US Z3 on your HD3-II ? If so, it won't work, as the hardware of the European version is slightly different from the US version (different radio, dvdv earea code, etc.etc.)
  17. Nor does it run windows CE (but windows automotive...)
  18. What's that all about re z-series ???????
  19. The previous post was over a year ago....
  20. Also how do you load music ? Gracenote only recognises complete (original or copied) music CD's, not individual tracks like you would get if you make your own compilations.... You would need to use CD-text for that....
  21. Re the navigation: 1) did you hook up the speedpulse ? 2) did you reset the calibration on the Z3 after installing ?

    remove phones

just give the phone a new name and re-pair....
  23. I suspect they use TMC (Traffic Message Channel), a function of RDS radio which is not supported on the American Z1/2/3 models, only the European HD1/HD3 versions
  24. No, it's the equivalent of the Z1
  25. Some cars have heat reflecting glass. Thiis is achieved with a thin transparent metalic layer on the windscreen, blocking reception....
