1. JZ- That's perfectly normal operation for sending contacts to the Z1. Once the phone is disconnected for voice use, you can send a contact by going to that contact on the phone and selecting menu and then "send contact via BT". You'll then select the Z1 as the object to send to and the transfer will take place. Once it's done it will reconnect for voice calls and you're all set. This seems to be a really common question, so I'll write up a little tutorial on how it's done tonight.
2. That article is old news and says nothing about the quality of the integration. In almost every case the solution auto manufacturers offer (at least for the current model cycle) will be nothing more than an auxiliary input for piping audio into the stereo. It won't be for another full model revolution until we see really advanced iPod integration will full control and text display on the vehicles audio system.

ip-bus

Every IP-Bus cable is the same, it's a standard that Pioneer uses for all of their accessories.
4. Can one of the mods please merge/delete all these multiple threads?
5. Geeze! I didn't check my email so I didn't get the notification. Thanks for posting that, I just grabbed one. :)
6. The iPod adapter is readily available at most shops. If you want one right away, check with your local Best Buy or Ciruict City, they should have them in stock. As for the functionality, look down four topics and you can read all about it. To sumarize; it gives you the best sound quality, charges your battery and allows you to hide your iPod, but if you're the type of person that likes to listen to one particular song right now, this probably isn't the best solution.
7. Let me first make this abundantly clear; I'm not supporting their actions in any way shape or form. That having been said, I own an internet based company, and I know that it costs money to do business. I love companies like 6Ave because they make it easier for me to to business, and I also hate them because they jade consumers against online purchases in the first place. But here's what I know from experience: When you sacrifice margin to make a sale, you also sacrifice service. You can't afford to put the systems in place that need to be there. You can't afford to hire ethical
8. Unless the headunit (the Z1 in this case) has built in support (both hardware and software), for accessing the iPod as a USB device, you will always be limited by trying to trick the headunit into think the iPod is a CD Changer. That's the limiting factor, and that's why Alpine when to an integrated solution this year. The existing headunits would not have been compatible with a new adapter anyway, so why not make it all-in-one?
9. Actually, that was my whole point. Just like the Alpine solution, the new Pioneer "Full-speed" solution will be something that is built into the headunit, and will not require an external adapter. Which means we will have to upgrade to the AVIC-Z2 if we want the new functionality. Kind of sucks, but there's no way around it.
10. From looking through the manual it appears as though the Z1 DOES NOT support RDS. I find that incredible, but it seems true.
11. It's not a long time to wait for one command, but if you're going three or four menus deep you might as well just touch the screen two times to complete the same process.
12. Nope, IP-Bus has nothing to do with the slow speed of the iPod browser. The issue is that the CD-iB100II (and all other first generation iPod interface adapters) simply "trick" the headunit into thinking the iPod is a CD Changer. Because Alpine was the first to market with the iPod adapter (KCA-420i), they're already on to the second generation, which requires completely different hardware to make accessing the iPod "full speed". Alpine's new system no longer makes use of the same commands for the CD Changer, it actually docks the iPod as a USB device, just like your computer at hom
13. I'm sorry, but what did you expect from a low cost leader? It amazes me when people freak out about the lack of service a company like 6Ave provides. It costs money to provide good service, and when you're selling product at a 10 point margin, there just isn't enough to go around to hire employees that get paid enough to really care, or to purchase and integrate the IT systems that are required to provide really good service. If you want service, you buy from Crutchfield. They sell the product at full margin, and can afford to provide the best customer service in the business. Tho
14. As the previous posters have said, playlists are essential for using the Pioneer iPod interface (and if you're not already using playlists, you should, that's what makes the iPod different from every other MP3 player).
15. There was another thread that asked the same question and went unanswered. So far I haven't found a way, which leads me to believe it's not possible (yet another oversight by the UI dev team on the Z1).
16. I guess I should issue the disclaimer to my previous post that this definitely needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. On most cars going with something like the Z1, which is an all-in-one solution is the best way to go. But on today's newer cars, were the stereo is integrated into not only the dash, but also the HVAC controls, steering wheel, Dash, etc., in most cases you end up with less functionality by going with an aftermarket system. This is certainly true on today's newest Japanese autos, and if you have a chance to spend some time in one that is equiped with nav you
17. I really hope we can figure out how to manipulate the code base to get rid of "features" like that.
18. There is absolutely no reason why the Z1 can not be installed in your car, and if you already had a D1 installed it does not require any different wiring connections.
19. The yellow fused connection on the Z1 harness is the constant power source. Connect to that and you should be set.
20. But you still have to wait for her to finish speaking before you can give the command right? I was pretty sure I tried that as her voice makes the voice command system almost completely useless to me.
21. I'm going to assume that you have a 2005 Passast B5.5 based on your screen name. If that's the case, your s-contact signal is sent to the headunit through the CAN Bus, there is no phyiscal signal you can tap into in the radio cage. The diagram you posted is the wiring scheme for the connections on the back of VW's MFD navigation system (I had that installed in my car before the Z1). It's listed by pencilneck who is one of the resident wiring experts on TDIClub and VWNavi. What you need is the other side of that diagram which he also shares that has the wiring out put of the double DIN
22. Does the Z1 reverse the image it gets from the back-up camera, or do I need to find a camera that already sends a reversed signal?
23. In your Passat the 12V switched signal for the factory headunit is carried over the CAN Bus network. That means we need to get the signal manually, which you can either do at the S-contact pin in the steering column to perfectly simulate the factory radio (ie, it turns off when you remove the key from the ignition, not when you turn the engine off), or you can get it from the headlight switch (which is the most accessible location). In that arrangement, the Z1 will turn off and on with the ignition.
24. They will vary with speed, starting at one and going up. I think mine reaches 20 around 50 MPH, but I'll check that tomorrow for you.
25. Purchasing an Install Card won't allow anyone to install the Z1 in your car. You can buy a plane ticket online, but if the carrier doesn't fly where you want to go that doesn't do you any good. In a car like your Avalon (and an increasing number of other cars), because of the integration of the stereo into other systems in the vehicle, retro-fitting the OEM option is really your best bet if you just want to take advantage of the features the Z1 offers. In almost every case these features are now available in the OEM solution, and the finished package looks and works much better.
