  1. And iOS 8 will be released next Friday. Like I said...one more week and then no excuses.
  2. Yes, CarPlay works with iOS 7, and was really only "released" with iOS 7.1in March. Given that no head unit was capable of using it in the open it seems like a beta version. It allowed manufacturers to write firmware and for Apple to test 3rd party apps. It was a six month window and as the months went by and iOS 8 was announced I never got the sense that Carplay would happen this summer. Apple will say that a software release (OS X) is due in a given month and they will get it out, but often it is on the last possible day of the month. iOS 8 is a pretty decent upgrade to 7. The podcast a
  3. When an Apple Senior Vice President sits on the board of Ferrari it's not a giant leap to assume that Ferrari would be first out the door. That being said, I don't believe you will be seeing more than a handful of these cars on the road. It seems reasonable that Pioneer didn't have the update ready for an early release and as time went buy it made sense that Apple would wait until the release of iOS 8. I guess we'll see next week. After that, there really are no excuses.
  4. As CSC posted, word is that all issues have been resolved and we are waiting on Apple to give the go ahead. This is the way they work. If Alpine, other car manufacturers were offering Carplay today I would be concerned. This just isn't happening.
  5. Good to see Annie blogging again. It's been reported over and over again. The hold up is with Apple. No one with the exception of Ferrari has released CarPlay. Huyndai has not updated the firmware in its vehicles either. Waiting until next week when iOS gets released to the public is a reasonable expectation. After that, frustration is more justified. No one knows what Pioneer was promised when it stated the early summer release. We don't know what issues may have come up with CarPlay during the firmware testing.
  6. I installed the GM last night. As soon as I did 4 apps updated. Also, the podcast app is now on the home screen, which tells me that Apple wanted that app loaded on phones in time for Carplay. I would count on a bevy of app updates in the next week until the public release of iOS 8. Guessing one more week until we see anything at a minimum.
  7. GM is out. http://www.designntrend.com/articles/19209/20140909/ios-8-beta-gold-download-gm-update-release-rumors.htm
  8. The GM is usually released to developers the day of the new iPhone release with the public release a few days later. If there are not any final tweaks the GM will be the same as the public release. Something should be available today as far as iOS 8 is concerned.
  9. As mentioned before, all album art must be embedded into each track for it to appear with an SD card or USB drive. Shuffle doesn't work quite as well as it does through an iPhone/iPod. File searching and album playback is more difficult as the metadata needs to be managed more closely. Playlists are not supported. For lossless audio it's a great solution. If you forget your phone its nice to have an SD card with you. Otherwise, plug in your phone and have everything at your fingertips.
  10. But it hasn't been released yet at all and tomorrow iOS 8 is rumored to be released. At the very least, the GM will be available to devs. Yes, I know Ferrari has a car out and yes Carplay will work on iOS 7.1 but any further updates to the app will be in iOS 8. Apples big event is tomorrow and we are seeing a flurry of announcements today. Fingers crossed for tomorrow or very near future.
  11. For all the effort, having music on an SD card is not THAT worth it. I have my lossless music on a USB Flash Drive. That works just fine when I want to bumb the audio quality of a few albums. Aside from that, an iPhone or iPod will handle playlists and the file system better. An iPhone will pull down missing album artwork, allow access to all your music even when its not loaded to the physical storage of the device through iTunes Match and allows for Playlists. Add to that Pandora support as well. Using the SD card just becomes redundant. I'm also on T-Mobile so there is no charge for str
  12. There is an app for Mac called Playlist Export which will do this for you. Check the App Store. I believe it's free. A few questions. Are you using iTunes Match? When you say "stream" does that mean you don't have any music physically copied to your drive and are using Match to stream? Unless you decide to go lossless I don't see any advantage to and SD card for music. At 256kbps with iTunes Match you are getting Apple encoded tracks and album art will download if it's missing. If you go the SD route you will have to make sure your album art is embedded in every track and shuffling is
  13. Someone wants them to be quiet about Carplay.
  14. I forgot about Beats being shown on Carplay. Hold out until the 9th. If not then, I'm not thinking this year.
  15. It very well could be a possibility but I don't think Beats is going to be integrated into iTunes or be a stock app. It would still have to be downloaded by someone and added to their phone. If that is the case, it should not delay the deployment. Any third party app is going to be a per user download. If the main core apps are good to go then they should roll it out.
  16. It will be interesting to see if more apps receive updates in the coming weeks. Could hint at a possible iOS 8 timed release. So frustrating.
  17. Sigh...more... http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/apple-carplays-slow-adoption-may-give-android-auto-an-advantage230774-230774.html The press is getting restless.
  18. Here come the articles prefacing Carplay's delay/demise: http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/08/22/could-apple-carplay-confuse/ http://247wallst.com/autos/2014/08/24/apple-carplay-in-trouble/ This is not good press and Apple has only itself to blame for this.
  19. I'm just saying that to what we have heard before it is not Pioneer that didn't "deliver". We have heard that the software was sent to Apple to approve and allow for distribution. Apple is the one holding this up at least as far as Pioneer goes.
  20. It's a bit unfair that the article blames Pioneer for the delay. This rests on Apple's shoulders. After all the delays, I think there could be major issues with Carplay. Perhaps Apple was waiting to have as many companies be ready to launch at once. Since these statements are coming out now, maybe they are telling Apple to move ahead without them if they are not ready?
  21. Yeah. Volvo seemed all ready to go. Not sure if something has changed but it doesn't look good. In the meantime, Pioneer needs to put out a firmware update!
  22. Not really. No higher up at Apple is going to disclose any NDA and let that info leak to a random rep. There have been many issues leaked to the press from Apple and verified from various sources. These include updates to Maps in both iOS 7 and the latest beta of iOS 8. While Carplay does function in iOS 7 it does not appear that Apple wants to release that version to the public. Taking some extra time to tweak or get more 3rd Party apps is certainly understandable. Ultimately, the release will be given a big announcement and a date for all manufacturers.
  23. Sorry. Apple is waiting. Getting a response from someone on a tech chat is not company policy. Is it possible Apple wants more apps ready for release? Sure. This would not be the hold up for an entire "product". The Pioneer firmware is apparently ready as are other car manufacturers. Carplay itself either has a few bugs or features that need to be worked out. iOS 8 will most likely be the next iphone update. It's just not going to happen before that.
