  1. I know iOS has nothing to do with it, but starting to feel like we won't see it released to the general public in iOS7.
  2. I dunno..just starting to think this thing is still half baked and not ready yet. Maybe with iOS8 we may see something. Apple sure has helped Pioneer sell a lot of head units before the software is even out.
  3. It should be but I didn't see it in this video. I have seen it when iTunes Radio is playing in other videos.
  4. I am not saying that Apple wants to appease Ferrari, but when one of Apple's Senior Vice Presidents also sits on the board of Ferrari there may be some influence. Not sure if this was posted yet, but here's another look. What I am not pleased about and maybe this is an early iteration of Carplay is that there is no Album Artwork visible when music was playing.
  5. There is a difference. How noticeable that difference is depends on the listener and the mix. While not every album will benefit from CD or greater quality it's nice to have the option to listen to those that do in their uncompressed glory. I don't have every song I own on my flash drive but a good number of great sounding albums.
  6. I'm going to stick with my initial assumption that Ferrari gets first crack at this. Once they release a car with Carplay the update will follow. It's annoying that Pioneer customers have to wait for a firmware upgrade because Apple hasn't blessed their app. There are other issues that need to be corrected. I'd rather have a NEX firmware update and let Carplay come later.
  7. Not those but if you truncate the first you do get somewhere.. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/PUSA/Files/Car-Firmware/
  8. The expanded url's did look legit. If anyone has the file and can share, let me know. I'd love to check it out.
  9. I would use the highest sample rate (lossless if possible) and get two cards. One for each playlist. Actually, I use my iPhone for playlists at 256kbps and a 128GB flash drive for lossless albums. Lossless is great to have as my in car CD collection while I still get great quality from my phone.
  10. RSO check your PM's. I wouldn't post on this site if you have it.
  11. Carplay is an App. It is nothing more than that and nothing a head unit has to be designed for. the iPad wasn't designed for the apps that run on it but there are thousands running just fine. No head unit that i know of at this time allows a second "i" device to run at the same time as another. It is either your iPhone/iPod/iPad in one USB and flash or other storage device in the second. Other than a bigger screen, the Alpine head units do not offer more than either the current gen Pioneer or Kenwood.
  12. OK..is this a joke..what am I missing! LOL
  13. Other than a bigger screen I don't see the Alpine having anything over the 8000. I'll take the capacitive screen, XM artwork, flac support, and faster processor.
  14. Yeah it looks like the 991HD is still painfully slow. That was one of my biggest gripes about them. Takes awhile to change album artwork from iPod. Can only switch songs once the artwork is loaded. The boot time was horrendous. The only real positive for Kenwood is Garmin. Coming from a Kenwood to the 8000NEX is like night and day. Do I miss my Garmin. Not really. With Carplay the Pioneer units will only be better. Also the album art from SiriusXM is nice..although I will most likely be canceling do to O&A. There are still some issues with the Pioneer but nothing earth shattering
  15. Mine is off as well. Speed pulse was not connected so I'll never be able to tell if that works. It's a bit annoying.
  16. Many apps are getting upgraded this weekend. Event the podcast app. Once all the apps are upgraded, the Pioneer firmware will most likely be reviewed and then released.
  17. A company is not going to give a date and miss the deadline due to unforeseen circumstances. Any glitch or last minute bug that affects the release will be seen as a negative. They feel comfortable with saying this summer. Given that window something should happen between now and September. It'll be here. I'm sure the firmware update is more than just Apple stuff, so Pioneer will want it out as soon as possible.
  18. Forget "Early Summer" or any other date. Apple has this and they will release it when they want it released. It's obvious this is not up to Pioneer. Apple is not going to release Carplay unless it feels comfortable that the apps are ready to go. Especially Maps. If they end up having a bad GPS app it would be disastrous. If it happens this month, expect it on the very last day of the month.
  19. There was an iOS update today. I could see this dropping next week after the holidays. If not, then last week of July.
  20. Have a new one. You can scroll and jump to artists quickly, but when in a playlist you can not quickly scroll through songs with the alphabet "wheel" as it's not there for songs.
  21. But not having one button/toggle is the issue. When in a music screen we should just be able to touch the current street name displayed at the bottom of the screen and go right back into the map. This to me is easier than looking for the hard button. You can touch the song name and get out of nav, so why not vice versa. This is a minor annoyance, but having to touch individual "Up" arrows when navigating folders is a little too specific. There is an entire banner area where the arrow is. Let us just touch anywhere in the banner instead of the arrow. The same applies for touching the song w
  22. From all I've been reading the release is in the hands of Apple. First, they have been updating Maps with POI's and updating addresses. The Maps app has to be ready or "good enough". http://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/21/apple-maps-poi-improving/ Also, the August edition of Mac Life just came out with a feature on Carplay where they suggest Apple is controlling everything.
  23. Since I can't use this now and only watch the videos, does this appear to be Pioneer's version of Carplay. Are the maps used from the phone or do they interact with the built in NAV? Also the iPod interface seems very similar to the Carplay implementation. If that's the case, I really don't see why this app wouldn't work with through lightning to USB on on iPhone after the Carplay firmware updates.
  24. I know there is a problem thread, but starting this to vent some of my frustrations at what are silly design decisions... 1. Can't jump back to the map screen from the touchscreen while in music mode. From maps, I can touch the source icon at the bottom of the map and jump into whatever source is playing. Once in that source, I can't touch the street shown at the bottom of the map and jump back to map. 2. Have to back your way out of menu structure from iPod. Once I get to a song, I have to back out through, Albums>Artist, etc. I can't just back right out to Artists, etc. I ha
