  1. Exactly. Hell they still haven't given us half the features they said the thing would be launching with. We still don't have the kind of idatalink support that was supposed to come with this radio based on the 2014 CES
  2. Keep us posted. Thank you for your help giving us the updates that Pioneer is too lazy to give.
  3. Well pandora not working over bluetooth is interesting. It should be seen if that affects both Android and iOS. I don't use Pandora, but I know it's a pretty popular app. It is interesting that Pandora isn't supported in Android Auto nor in Carplay.
  4. I have a 4000. If you want help bug testing your firmware let me know.
  5. Have you tested Carplay with your firmware? Does that still work fine? Does carplay run any differently? I have an iPhone, not an Android right now, so the last thing I'd want to do is break the Carplay I do use for Android auto that I don't use.
  6. No, when I do that I then get to see some fantastically terrible horizontal grey bars all over my album art, and the maps looks horrendous. The alpine just shows the album art correctly. It's something in the default color map that we don't have access to that changes for the worse for carplay. Try it. turn on a song and go to the now playing screen and then press the mode button. A split second before the radio jumps to its own media player it switches all the display videos settings to the default picture settings for the radio and at that second the radio lets you see all the albu
  7. The pioneer is just plain terrible at displaying album art in CarPlay. The alpine you can actually see it. I can't wait till I can afford to get rid of my NEX.
  8. Spotify's carplay implementation is incredibly buggy. I use Rdio. I'm much happier with it and its app performance. Also, whenever there is an issue, their tech support has very quick response times. Make sure to turn on the reduce motion setting in the accessibility settings. It makes carplay faster. We are all waiting to see how carplay evolves over time. It runs completely from the phone, so the entire interface could change for the better in the future.
  9. I feel that wise money waits right now and buys nothing. I regret my NEX purchase. It won't get wireless CarPlay. The display on it sucks. Seriously sucks. Go to one of the larger best buys and play with the alpine ILX-007. The display is much better. You can actually see the album art and it doesn't make those vertical lines that my radio has on the album art. However, even that unit is the same 800x480 display that is no where near as good as the display on my phone. Parrot is coming out with their new unit that looks to have a 720p display. The specs for making CarPlay headunits came o
  10. as promised, here is a video I made showing carplay running with reduced animations off vs on. enjoy
  11. Sorry forgot to yesterday. I will make the video!
  12. Just like iOS 7 and 8, CarPlay has some very swoopy animations to jump in and out of the home screen and between apps. These Animations take time to complete that leads some people to feel CarPlay can be a little slow just like their opinion of iOS 7 and 8 in general. Well just like iOS 7 and 8 if you turn on reduce motion in accessibility the transitions between apps in CarPlay dramatically improves as well. I'll make a video of it when I get off work, but suffice to say it's impressive and a welcome improvement. Try it out. Settings-general-accessibility-reduce motion-on. It's nice
  13. To answer OP's question. The sync tool you are looking for is called AvicSync and pioneer never released it.

Yes you can use the USB extension.

    Apple CarPlay

You're grabbing the cables you need to do Appradio mode. Carplay doesn't use the same connection. Carplay is actually really easy. The back of your radio has 2 USB ports. Plug a lightning cable into USB 1 and then plug that cable into your phone. That's it. Just in case you got worried and played around with settings. Make sure your radio is set to iPhone connecting through USB in the smartphone setup section. On your iPhone make sure your restrictions are set to off. After that you should be golden. Lightning USB 1 iPhone plugged into lightning Radio smartphone setup set to
  18. Android auto, and slightly better iDatalink support. That's it.
  19. Pioneer did some really goofy things with how that display works on the NEX line. It's an utter mess.
  20. I did't read that second paragraph. However, what I'm saying is that wireless carplay cannot be a bluetooth function. It just doesn't have the bandwidth. The maps app definitely needs some serious updates for live traffic rerouting and for speed based display of the map zoom.
  21. I highly doubt this. the only way bluetooth 4.0 can even do close to a high speed transfer is actually by using the bluetooth connection to set up a temporary adhock WiFi network between the devices. Bluetooth itself just doesn't have the bandwidth.
  22. Found the proof that the Alpine ILX-007 has bluetooth and wifi antennas. http://i.imgur.com/th5Seil.jpg the chip does both bluetooth and wifi and the necessary antennas are on the board.
  23. Yeah Mirrorlink is a false starter sadly.
  24. Meh. I don't care. Pioneer has already burned me with both the appradio 2 and the NEX line with their many examples of gloriously bad mismanagement. I'm waiting for the Parrot. Or maybe some other new entrant that we haven't seen yet. With Android Auto and Carplay in the mix, I'm sure there will be some kickstarter for a radio that doesn't suck at some point in the future.
  25. The only time I have seen them support non current head units was when apple updated the software and it broke the Appradio 1's connection to the phone. I haven't seen a new feature be added to non current radios.
