  1. So tonight I finally remembered to try taking the iPhone 5 with its included lightning USB cable out to my Jeep. I took the 30 PIN Pioneer cable that comes with the AppRadio 2 and unplugged the USB cable (where you would insert a thumb drive for updates). I then plugged in the Lightning USB cable. There was a bit of excitement because the iPhone 5 beeped and was at least receiving a charge. So charging works. Next I noticed the iPod, Apps, and Pandora icons lit up. So the AppRadio detects there is a smartphone connected or that a device is drawing power... which ever. But it wa
  2. Control does not happen via HDMI with Android it's over the SPP Bluetooth protocol. IOS does not support SPP. So it would require q whole other method to control apps via the touch screen.
  3. Android devices support SPP via Bluetooth that give them Serial Port Protocol control. As far as most can tell, iOS does not support SPP.
  4. Interesting read : http://www.macworld.com/article/1168555/what_apples_new_lightning_connector_means_for_you.html#commentsjump
  5. Even if Pioneer decided it was worth it to try and do Airplay via BT, its going to take them MONTHS. The iPhone 5 is here now. Not many are going to wait that long to upgrade the device they use the most... even more than their car stereo. They are going to upgrade the phone and seek another option in the car. I just wish there was more information to make a better educated guess.... even if its a $30 or $40 adapter/cable... its still a gamble and most likely a good portion of the stereo is going to be obsolete. So why even hang on to the AppRadio? Might as well go to something that
  6. Does anyone know any head units that support all digital control, audio, and video? At this point, those are the best candidates to work to some degree with the iP5. Anything that uses the analog might as well go on clearance right now. Also, has anyone even seen if the Lightning connector will support video out, at all? The fact there isnt lightening HDMI or DVI connectors is alarming to say the least that video of any kind wont even work.
  7. There is a lot going on with their Facebook page regarding this very topic. Pioneer Electronics North America is the page and many users are demanding a response. This far Pioneer is only saying they are going to try and test/certify as soon as all is available
  8. Ya I have an iPhone 4 that is mine and use it only for work. So may keep it in vehicle but Bluetooth my 5 for calls. When you say tether your 5 to your 4, what does that entail and provide you?
  9. Sorry - the brain is working overtime on this one. If this is the same cable used for the AppRadio 2, then it says it uses the digital for the best audio/video quality possible. If that is the cable the 30 to 9pin adapter may actually work to port the Advanced AppMode and iPod/Pandora from IP4 to AR! http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Accessories/iPod-and-iPhone-Cables/CD-IU201S
  10. Also, read an interesting CNET article about how other vehicle manufacturers are going to have the same issue. What it boils down to is the new 9 pin is 100% digital. So Apple basically eliminated all analog output. Therefore, if the car stereo relies on the analog signal for audio/video, then the accessory most likely will NOT function. However if it relies on the digital data signals and uses its own digital to analog converter, then chances are it will be somewhat to fully compatible. I *think* AR relies on the 30 PIN analog video for actual video output. However it uses digital dat
  11. The wheels are still turning in my head... One *could* connect an AppleTV to the HDMI connection in their AppRadio, and then use AirPlay Mirroring to project to their AR. I suppose control from the touch screen would be eliminated. But it would at least provide audio/video support wirelessly to your screen. Has anyone tried this to see if you truly loose the touch screen of if the ATV knows via the digital HDMI its a touch screen?
  12. That is good sign for those with iPhone 4/4S and plan to stay. It shows in the keynote that those who do iPod in their cars can continue to do so with the adapters. Unfortunately, it seems like all the control is/will be on the iOS device vs controlling the library/playback from the accessory. I called Pioneer on another issue and asked at the end if they had any official news to share. The tech said nothing official. Apple being Apple, the device has not been openly shared with the likes of Pioneer to work on adapting their accessories. Therefore Pioneer will most likely not get the
  13. I posted a question in the Apple Online Store for both L230P adapters. I am not sure how this adapter serves any purpose if the video and ipod streams are not supported. The bigger question will be if iOS 6 is also going to be supported. It will suck to be 1 iOS version behind on my current iPhone 4S. Anyone have any feel of how quick Pioneer has been in the past to test and respond?
  14. I have same issue. Will be playing in MixTraxx or CarMediaPlayer and it will pop sources into pandora. Conversely I will be Pandora and the screen will go black and music will stop. It's much like the Pandora out of the blue ... I hear the AppRadio chirp, the screen changes, music momentarily cuts out, etc. I have been working with Pioneer support. My firmware update won't take via newly formatted flash so they are sending me the firmware via USB stick. So they ar going to see if this solves the problem. I have tried 3 iPhone 4S's and my iPhone 4 works great with Pandora. But not tri
  15. To be clear, each app uses your smartphone application update process and data connection to keep current. The AppRadio GPS antennae helps boost signal and larger screen presentation in dash.
  16. Google Maps, Motion X GPS, NavFree, Inrix Traffic, and Extra Mile all pull maps and location from the mobile device and display on the AppRadio screen and UI containers. The AppRadio processes nothing more than what your TV or Stero system would. The processing and data is all powered by your mobile device. The only extra advantage is the AppRadio has a GPS antennae to help boost the signal of your smartphone. When installed properly, it will help ensure direct line of site of a GPS signal. There is a settings option to monitor the connection strength of your GPS options from the AppRadio
  17. Also - regarding the playback of radio and mixtraxx while multi tasking to other AppRadio compatible apps, here are your steps to listen while using another app like Motion X or Inrix. 1) Begin playback of the radio or mixtraxx. 2) click home and navigate to the app you want to use. 3) once in the app you are going to use (ie motion x, inrix, best parking, etc..) double tap the AppRadio Home button 4) Press the PLAY icon on the popup menu along the bottom. 5) Playback of your music source (ie Radio or MixTraxx) should resume. For some reason, the Embedded iPod and Pandora p
  18. I guess I had notifications off on this thread. I didnt think anyway responded. A few months later, I have learned to deal / work around most issues. However the one issue that is COMPLETELY frustrating is the Pandora and iPod embedded applications!!!! These are like the staples to the whole unit. But I constantly get black screens in the middle of music playback. The iPhone 4S stays completely full on with the AppRadio screen or the Pandora Accessory screen. But I can barely listen to a full song without the music slightly cutting out and the screen going black. I have a ticket open
  19. Here are the list of apps that I have asked Pioneer to actively solicate to integrate with the AppRadio Advanced App mode: SiriusXM Internet Radio iHeartRadio AhaRadio HBO Go DirectTV Nomad Watch ESPN Netflix Hulu YouTube While I know the video nature of some of those apps can be considered a hazard for drivers... its a perk for the passengers. OR while in a parking lot waiting for someone. Any other apps that would be great? I have notice you can listen to most apps while in AppMode, but the AR2 screen remains blank. If you have your iPhone mounted next to the AR2,
  20. I was wondering if anyone else running stock AppRadio 2 and iPhone 4S have noticed these issues. Its very difficult for me to contact Pioneer during their support hours, especially to work thorugh issues that are chronic but sporatic. Their email support basically only address yes/no questions it needs. So I end up getting no where with them. Issue#1 - "The Black Hole Screen" (Have seen this posed many times) Chronic black/blank screens in iPOD and Pandora AR2 applications. Have seen once in AppRadio mode (in the Car Media Player) on a longer trip (ie 2.5 hours) happen once. HItting o
  21. I am stock all the way, iPhone 4S and AppRadio 2. I have found from time to time each app needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled, if a power cycle or app kill doesnt work. Car Media Player was my salvation for this units native iPOD app. The iPOD app would go black from time to time, music would keep playing, but you had to hit "home" on AR2, reselect iPOD, and that would momentarily pause music while it reloaded the display in the iPOD app. Car Media Player is able to deal much better with flipping between apps, as well as iTunes Match extended cloud library. Even if something isnt loca
