  1. Has anyone had any luck having an iPod Classic connected to the 2nd USB port.. AND the iPhone 5 kit connected.... AND be able to see both the iPod Classic and iPhone 5 in advance appmode? I have iPhone 5 working great with AdvApp Mode. But when I reset the unit because it was not seeing the iPod Classic... it changed the AppMode setting to OTHERS vs iPhone AV Digiital. I got it changed back to AV Digital, but it wont see the iPod Classic now. Do I have to have the iPOD cable kit from Pioneer for BOTH to work... or will there just be too much conflict? I am thinking it may just b

  3. On my AVH8500, I like to have SiriusXM always playing off the bat when I get in the vehicle. I always connect my iPhone 5 to the unit with the AppRadio app ready to pair up. However when I do this, it automatically switches to USB2 (my iPhone). Then I have to switch back. One of the things that drove me nuts with the AppRadio 2 was the constant need to touch screen through a series of "ok" and prompts before I could get music playing. So its a little disappointing that the AVH8500 goes from a playing source to telling me the iPhone 5 is connected but nothing to play back on it.
  4. Any update on this? I have AVH8500, and a 2.5" 7200rpm 750gb Seagate Momentius I used to use in a Macbook pro. I formatted as FAT32. I used the MixTraxx app on my MAC to load in my iTunes library, and it took a couple days but it fully analyzed all 33k+ songs. I then synchronized the full library to my hard drive. Excited to connect to my AVH8500 and nothing showed up. I am using an extension cable from the back of the unit into the glove box. When installed at Best Buy they connected an iPod and it was able to see and play just fine. So I think the cable is fine, but I am ponderi
  5. Maybe this will help clarify. Apple supports Audio and Video CONTROL over bluetooth. That is not the same as pushing video from the iOS device to the external display. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Bluetooth has a video output profile/protocol called VDP, but I do not know of a single device that supports or uses it. Most likely because the bandwidth capacity for BT is ~3mps. You would be severely limited as to the quality of video output, not to mention audio and control data sharing that same connection. BT is also fairly battery intensive.
  6. If it connects via WiFi then its using Airplay
  7. Android devices do not support video over Bluetooth either. They push video via a Kit that includes HDMI.
  8. Here are my top favorites and why: iGo may seem costly; however it is awesomely powerful. When I got home to my parents there is a good hour I am void of any 3G or 4G coverage. iGo has provisions to keep maps available for 'Offline" use. Which means it just your GPS and the screen. Works wonderfully and is so accurate it is almost scary! I just did the $24.99 version from the AppStore and then bought the AppRadio add on for $35. That purchase also gets you a year of 2 of the other service add-ons. So its best to go that route. iHeart is getting better and better as they work through
  9. There are 4 options: (Note: Bluetooth Phone mode will work with all 4 options. Therefore I have not included it with each option.) iPhone 4/4S with stock 30 PIN connector: Both the embedded iPod/Pandora and Advanced AppRadio Modes will work. 100% of the apps available for AppRadio will work with this configuration. iPhone 5 with stock 30 PIN connector + 30PIN to Lightning adapter: Only the embedded iPod/Pandora apps will work. No advanced AppRadio Mode. Therefore 0% of the apps available for AppRadio will NOT work with this configuration. But if you are only after the 7" screen and
  10. I had this issue with my 4S/30 pin setup. Spent weeks and months with Pioneer to resolve the issue. I found a solution myself. You need to leave the AppRadio app up at all times, including when Pandora is running, Pandora will work just fine on the AppRadio. What I found was the AppRadio unit kept trying to launch the AppRadio app, even while in Pandora mode. So the black screen is the units change in channel. I hope it helps!
  11. Hi RCHarris, Try the following and see if it helps. 1) delete the iPhone for the phone menu on the AppRadio and then re-pair the Bluetooth connection. It will take a couple minutes for the contact and phone book data to sync so give it a few to complete. 2) delete the AppRadio App on your iPhone and reinstall it. Make sure you launch it before connecting and select your country, select your wallpaper, setup social networking, etc... If you do #1, it's best to do this between the delete and re-pairing 3) be patient I between switching your apps and returning home to the AppRadio sc
  12. If you use apps like mixtrax and i heart and switch to navigation and loose your music audio, this double tap home and press play restarts the audio from the last playing appradio music app.
  13. I have wrote SiriusXM and Pionerr both to try and work together to extend the SXM app to the AR. The sound is great and you can mirror the SXM app to the AR so your passengers can see the station and info. But it is very tiny for just glancing and reading. The font is really small. Even if the SXM just pushed a landscape display to external display screens with full sized text it would be awesome. I could deal with occasionally going to the iPhone to change station which is very easy with preset favorites
  14. Delete your AppRadio App on your phone and make sure you launch it on your iPhone 5 before connecting it the first time to your AR. You will want to select the country and let the compatible apps pages all load before you connect up. Also you may eant to delete your iPhone on the AR Bluetooth and pair it over again and let the contacts and such all sync & connect. Are you seeing the Bluetooth icons in the upper right of the Apps button on the AR main screen?
  15. I like Waze, especially since it works with iPhone 5 and AR2 setup. But it's sort of clunky and I don't really want all the social crap. So I have been looking at others. I used motion X for a whole but my 1 year expired recently. I hated how I had to use the iPhone to input everything and couldn't quickly swap to a destination on the AR2 itself. IGo looks pretty sweet because its professionally mapped and the maps are downloaded and updated locally. So if you end up in an out of coverage area, you can still get a map and GPS to navigate without needing a data connection. The downside
  16. I was having this with the EZTouch app as well. I then got an iPhone 5 and couldnt use it with AR2. Now with the iPhone 5 update, I can use AR2 again. But some of the apps dont support the new method of connectivity (or have issues trying to do so). So will be interesting to see if this issue still exists. But I dont think it is exclusive to Waze.
  17. Here are my thoughts on what works and is still challenged: iPod - Completely 'greyed out' and not accessible. Apps - The pairing of the AppRadio Control App + the AR2 is lacking in speed. I can connect my iphone 5, launch the AR control app, and then turn on my engine, bucket up my seat belt, back out of my garage, down my 10-15 yards of drive way, and half down down my 1/2 block of street before the AppRadio Advance App Mode is visible on my AR2. Its sometimes a few seconds less or more... but that is about 15-30 second window. So I am definitely well on my way before I am even sel
  18. Hello, I thought I would share and post pictures of what is included in the Pioneer CD0IH202 Cable for the AppRadio 2 support of Lightning Port enabled iOS devices. Pioneer Multi pin to Female USB Cable - This will replace your current Apple 30 PIN to Pioneer Multi Pin cable. It provides a USB port (that can be hidden) that is front facing anywhere in your vehicle. Use #1 - Makes the AppRadio more easily updatable to future firmware versions/fixes. Use #2 - Provides a way to charge your iOS device that is going to be used primarily with your AR2. This way you do not take up any o
  19. I managed to get my AppRadio 2 updated this weekend. For those who have an iMac, I learned the update process does not work with a MAC in the middle. I had to boot into my Bootcamp Windows 7, format as FAT32 and copy the yak file, do first update, then delete yak file and copy the hat file. I guess the Mac Disk Utility FAT format is insufficient. Must be formatted via Windows. Lastly, I have the new Pioneer cable on its way. But in the meantime I am using a standard HDMI cable to Lightning HDMI AV adapter and my Lighting to USB cable plugs into a USB cigarette power adapter for chamfe
  20. Nope, connection on back is not a standard USB connection: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UWv8aq5Lb7A/T3_M68jfeUI/AAAAAAAAAp4/-LNBUlVwcsw/s1600/IMG_9563.JPG
  21. BTW - in all that I meant to say, I placed an order for the Pioneer HDMI + USB cable last week. It wont ship until March 3rd according to my order status. I saw others were just using a cheap HDMI cable, and then plugging their USB cable into an outlet in their vehicle for charging. I want the Pioneer cable because it will have an exposed USB port to make future firmware updates easier to apply.
  22. So tonight, I decided to pay this some attention and attempt the update. From the begging I ran a HDMI cable from the back into my middle console, just in case. So I have the Lightning to HDMI AV cable + USB Lightning cable ready to go. So I open the USB port up on the old 30 PIN and plug in what will soon become a parade of USB thumb drives. The update that came out last July wouldnt update either and Pioneer sent me the update. Because it went on back order, my local Best Buy helped speed up the process and was able to update it with the USB thumb drive they found that works on the
  23. Must be FAT32 and an older/smaller generation USB stick. The firmware file must also be the only file on the drive.
  24. First, about the special pioneer cable, I believe it allows you to have access to a "front facing" USB port for easy of use for future firmware updates. Second, I learned from last update that the update file and USB thumb drive can be very finicky. I tried several USB drives as did my local Best Buy. We finally got one to work. But it took several iterations to get to that point. ALong the way I got errors saying there was more than 1 file in the root location, as well as cant ready USB. So just try a few or if you have a local auto shop, see if the have had success.
  25. Apple is still suppose to release additional cables that will support video out. So advanced App Mode may yet still be salvaged. But at least being able to play my music off my 64gb iP5 and Pandora is better than my limited 8gb iP4 that I use for work. I can still use the iPhone 4 if I need GPS or such. But my majority use is music. In the end we will be better off if wireless control and outputs are used, such as Wifi airplay or Bluetooth control via MAP or SPP.
