Just did this using a usb to ide and worked well. Backed up my driver, resotred the image - done.

I just got a car with an AVIC Z1 with BT/IPOD/XM. I dont plan on getting XM and the constant "Updating" on the screen is annoying. the XM module is installed under my passenger seat - can I simply disconnect the blue and black bus cables and the power connector and be done or does the bus loop need to be completed someplace behind the Z1 in the dash or at the IPOD module? thanks.
