  1. Hey djchad (or anybody else), i just read this comment on Appradioworld, "I just received my adapter. and with the latest app i can tell you that everything works except video out. so music works and steering controls work as well so pioneer doesn't use ipod control or already found a way to override it. however there is still nothing official released from pioneer or apple about the video out cables." He doesn't specify which AppRadio he had, but can somebody confirm that with the latest App, does the iPod still work? Album art and track info? At least that would be some good news.
  2. I need to add that Maps works just like the old google version did. However, turn-by-turn directions from Maps only works on the phone itself. Its video is not sent to the AppRadio. The voice guidance does come through the speakers FWIW.
  3. Personally, I'm holding onto my 4S until a resolution is made for Iphone 5 compatibility. The outlook on that happening is still pretty murky at the moment. It's basically a wait and see deal right now. If a new cable or some other solution cannot be made, then I will hold onto my Iphone 4S/Appradio2 combo as long as I can stand it. Most likely I will get the next iPhone (iPhone 5S?), and make a decision then. If the Appradio will not support it, then it will be an excuse to end the Appradio experiment and get something a little more conventional (built-in GPS, A2DP bluetooth, etc.) becaus
  4. The new Maps App does work. You can search, get directions, etc. You can still zoom by hitting the +/- buttons, but pinch to zoom does not work.
  5. I upgraded to iOS6 last night and as far as I can tell, it all works OK. Take a look at the excerpt below... Copied from the iPhone 5 thread: For owners of current AppRadio 2, AppRadio, and Advanced App Mode products*, please read the following important update: Your Pioneer product is compatible with iOS 6 installed on the iPhone 4S or iPhone 4. At this time, two operational issues, listed below, have been identified. To resolve these issues, both the Pioneer AppRadio app and each compatible third-party AppRadio app require an update. 1.) Apps cannot be successfully launche
  6. What's New in Version 1.4.0 Now supports control of Podcasts, Audiobooks, and Video. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/carmediaplayer/id511262089?mt=8 I listen to a lot of podcasts so it's great to be able to browse them from carmediaplayer. I tried to play a video this morning from carmediaplayer but it hung up on a black screen. I only tried once so I can't confirm yet if it has a bug or not.
  7. Version 1.8.0 (iPhone) of the AppRadio app allows you to select a wallpaper from your iPhone's camera roll. This is great - no more workaround needed! I don't know if this applies to Andoid as well. What's New in Version 1.8.0 Update your Wallpaper settings from your personal photo library. Post your current position to Facebook or Twitter Optimize the Recommended Apps to only show apps compatible in your region http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/appradio/id434811742?mt=8
  8. I bought a glare-resistant film on ebay for my AR2 for $15. It has a satin like finish that is quite effective for reducing glare. There is one specifically for the AR2 that I know of. It covers the entire glass panel except for maybe 3mm on each side. That being said, I removed mine after a couple months because I missed the shiny look otherwise.
  9. I'm beginning to think that Apple expects everybody to use Airplay to send video. I have doubts now that the new connector is even capable of sending video out. I googled "Airplay via bluetooth" and there is more out there to read. it seems possible, so perhaps a new Firmware update can let the iPhone see the Appradio as an airplay device in order to transmit video. I bet we'd still have to use the provided cable in order to retain touchscreen functionality.
  10. @djchad72 - Thanks. I'll read up on their facebook page. @ov3n - I too plan to get an iPhone 5 regardless. Is tethering only for jailbroken phones? If there is no workable solution I will probably just get a new radio altogether. I miss bluetooth streaming.
  11. Do you suppose it's possible for Pioneer to make an entirely new cable specifically for the iPhone 5 (i.e. all digital)? Or do you think the head unit itself cannot support a full digital connection? If it is possible, the cable will likely be $100, just like the Android cable. I would consider that over buying a whole new head unit. I just wrote Pioneer to clarify what is analog with the current AR2/iPhone 4 setup. I also asked about an iPhone 5-specific cable. When I clicked "submit" I got a server error. I don't know if my inquiry went thorugh. Balls!
  12. The Appradio2 uses a different cable that is probably not all digital. There's a USB junction in the center of the cable that can be detached for firmware updates via USB, but there is still a portion of the cable aside from the USB junction. I assume that the undetachable part of the cable carries analog audio and/or video. If so, then even Apple's adapter will not work for us. When I replace my 4S with an iP5, I envision that my Appradio will be unceremoniously thrown into the Pacific ocean. I'll have to go with a new head unit with built-in GPS and A2DP bluetooth streaming. No more of t
  13. I was just reading the same thing about the new 9-pin connector being fully digital. I tend to agree with you that I *think* audio and/or video are handled via analog signalling. The cable that comes with the AR2 has a breakaway USB plug in the middle so that you can stick a flash drive in it to do firmware updates. But even when you disconnect the USB plug, there's still a portion of cable that runs to the back of the head unit. I assume this is where the analog signals pass through. But is it for audio, video, or both? I'm glad I saw this thread early on because this will be a huge p
  14. For NavFree, did you enable TV out from the settings on the phone itself? That might be the issue. I was using that app for a few days but it was completly unreliable for me. I've switched to Motion X and paid the $25 to enable on-screen commands. That app works beautifully and is very accurate. In my experience, it is 100x better than NavFree.
  15. Sometimes Pandora opens out of the blue. This can be quite annoying. Would the only solution be to close the Pandora app on the phone itself? I'd still like to be able to select Pandora as I cycle through modes with my steering wheel button, so I'd naturally like to leave Pandora open all the time. I just don't want it to override my current choice of musical source out of nowhere. Makes me wonder... Is this "feature" something Pioneer granted to Pandora? Why is it one of the only apps that doesn't have to use Advanced App Mode? Anyhow, I actually do like the radio itself 90% of the ti
  16. If you're still looking for a proper place for the GPS antenna it may work well under the dash. My last car had its factory GPS antenna on a little platform underneath the dash. There was no metal or anything that could interfere above it - just the plastic dashboard top. For the AR2 installation I just did on my current car, I simply stuck the GPS antenna to the top of the radio itself (it's magnetic). The radio fit just fine in the dash. The only thing above it is the plastic top of the dashboard (like my previous car). I used to use Navfree like mjellison1a and I noticed that the
  17. For Netflix, and I assume any video app that uses the TV out function of the iPhone, you simply play the video from the phone and make sure to NOT open the AppRadio app. When the AppRadio app is not on, then the head unit just plays whatever video is playing on the phone. I'm not sure how that would work with Android. If you can normally get video out from your device then the above method is worth a shot.
  18. Correct. The JVC radio has the same resolution as the Appradio 2. They state 1152000 pixels which is the same as saying 800x480x3 (the "3" representing red, green, and blue). Regardless, I'm liking the appradio 2 better now than I did at first. I updated the firmware which fixed the problem of intermittent back up camera freezing. I've figured out how to make Netflix work, and I have discovered that Aupeo! is a terrific App. I've also ditched NavFree in favor of Motion X. There is no comparison. NavFree gave very unreliable ditections and it didn't track the car very well. Motion X has the
  19. I've been using my shiny new Appradio 2 for about 3 days now and it's yet to fully grow on me. If just used as a radio/iPod player/bluetooth phone then all is good. It's the App integration that can be less than smooth, as many people know. I just found out about the JVC KW-AV70BT today. Where is their marketing department?!? I had no idea this head unit even existed until today. It looks like quite the competitior, plus it also has CD/DVD/SD card slots AND a detachable face - for the same price as the Appradio2! What little reviews I've read lead one to believe that this unit "just wo
  20. Thanks for posting this valuable information! 3,5, & 7 seconds has been working perfectly for days now on my Appradio 2.
  21. I'm at work planning out my installation but I do not have my Appradio 2 in front of me. I do not recall the harness having a VSS wire. Does it? I assume if it doesn't then GPS works pretty well (like a standalone unit?). Thanks.
