1. A huge thanks to jlong1987 and routan for the map updates!!!! I downloaded both last night via ftp, used imgburn to copy them to DL dvd disk (TDK in my case), popped it into my AVIC-D1, updated the system and it works perfectly!!!! The download of both files took about 5 hours total. Burning to disk took about 1 hour for each one. Just awesome!!!! My home which is in a new neighbourhood is finally on the map now.
 2. Can someone please post up the link that has instructions on how to load a custom background onto the map disc? TIA!
 3. Hi PersianNYC, I still haven't received my discs yet. I sent money on August 7th, so it's been 3 weeks now. When exactly did you send them? My paypal id is hameed at prudensconsulting.com
 4. I just sent you a PM - PersianNYC! I want the discs too!
 5. Anyone know when the next update is coming for the map disc? I have the 2006 version on my D1 effectively making it a D2.
 6.
The Pioneer system is very difficult to get used to. If you pick shortest route or off highway route, it takes you through the worst parts of the towns... This unit (D2) has all the features, but very poor nav. guide/data. Not impressed at all. My '04 Touareg with CD based navigation system is much better at navigation. It may not display all the street names, etc. on the display, but picks better roads than D2 does.
I tried the multiple routes option yesterday and it works pretty good as far as I am concerned. What I do is that I pick a combination of le
 7.
I'm thinking about getting one of these but I was just wondering if there is any difference between the two. The AVICD1 seems to be a little cheaper so if there is no difference I might just go with that. Any help would be great.
Based on the specifications for both, there seems to be hardly any difference. Moreover you can buy the latest discs (firmware and maps) that will update your D1 to a D2. I also have a D1 and did just that.
 8.
yeah i was also wondering if you could use your old discs after you install the 60MT ones, i got the east coast one off ebay but dont want to use it unless i can use my old, blue, west coast one.
I doubt very much you would be able to use your original old West coast disc once you have used the newer one off ebay - this is simply because the newer one will update the firmware and then the old one (regardless of which one it is - west or east) will not work.
 9.
Check one of the screens to see if you have the old ESC key, or if it now says HIDE. This was in the 2 page manual.. HIDE is the nomenclature for the 2006 version..
Yes, I have the HIDE button now on some screens. :)
 10.
it gives u routes inbetween fastest and shortest it seems. may be what you want. give it a try
Thanks, I'll try that tonight.
 11.
enable multiple routes
What does this accomplish :?:
 12. What modes of routing does the D1 have? I can only see two modes - (1) fast and (2) short Fast tends to focus on highways and short does the opposite. Is there anything in between - highways and non highways to do fast and short at the same time? For example - I came from Kitchener back to Oakville on the weekend Logically the fastest way to come back to Oakville is to take 401 East, Hwy 6 south, 403 East, QEW east and then exit at Burloak So that is a combination of hwy and secondary road (highway 6) However the D1 (on fast route) picked - 401 East
 13.
 are you serious? post a picture of your connection status screen. I couldn't get any of the three signal bars when I put this under my rear deck on top of the sheet metal. It would see 6 of the sats, but that just means it's getting the ping beacon, not necessarily able to calculate location very accurately. The good news about these units is that with the VSS wire and gyroscope, after the learning phase is complete, i could unplug the gps antenna entirely and still be *pretty*accurate.
How many hours roughly does the learning phase take?
 14. Hey thanks for the heads up! I also bought one of these remanufactured DVD's off ebay and have used it for a couple of days so far. I guess I should make an image of it and create a backup huh? I don't want to end up with these errors you ran into......... Can you please explain the process you used to create your backup disc? I have never used Alcohol before. Please be as detailed as you can. Thanks!
 15.
i dont think it is worth it to use xm in canada unless you're getting it for free. i had the p10mt but never tried it. I sold it on the spot. i heard there are about 5 good channels, that's why i didn't bother using it
Just 5 good channels????
 16. What exactly are the differences between the GEX-P10XMT and GEX-P920XM? Here is what I have gleaned so far from some posts regarding these units: Common features: 1. Cool XM Interface, XM icons and the artist and song info. 2. Both units don't do more than 16 characters on the display. Differences: The GEX-P10XMT 1. Has the traffic updates feature The GEX-P920XM 1. Does not have the traffic updates feature. Is that it as far as what is common and different to both? Please chime if you have either unit with what features yours has. I am
 17. I upgraded mine, but can't say for sure if it was worth it or not. I like to have the latest stuff and the hardware upgrades made it worthwhile to me. :D If you can want I can make you a copy of mine as mine is a good disc.
 18.
My AVIC-D1 didn't come with the "metal sheet" that's talked about in the installation manual. It says reception will be much poorer without this metal sheet. What is it, exactly? Just a piece of sheetmetal? Is it steel, copper...??? About how thick, and what are its dimensions? I figure I can make my own if having it really makes a difference.
It is magnetic (I guess that makes it steel) and is approximately 2 inches square. I have no idea why the reception would be poorer without it though...... Perhaps someone else can shed some light on tha
 19. How much did you pay for your D1? I got mine from a store in the US (not online), and I paid $900.00 for it. Awesome price!
 20.
I bought mine through [url=http://www.myradiostore.com">www.myradiostore.com , more expensive ($234) but I've always trusted them (and
 21.
I've got mine in a Ford Freestyle, fits in nicely. I'm using the original 1.0 disc that came with the unit, the 407's on it. It took me about 10 days but last night I finally finished downloading the -60MT East Coast disc. Will burn it tonight and see how that works. I've heard that there isn't much of an update for Ontario but it's worth checking out. Where'd you get your -60M disc ?
I didn't have the patience to download the disc and ended up buying it off ebay for $55.00 ............. I guess I should have saved myself that money and just downloa
 22.
One can always dream about NAVTRAFFIC for Toronto but I'm guessing that won't happen anytime soon. Actually, I drive a fair bit in the States and was thinking of activating it for upcoming road trips just to see how it works. Difference in price between the two units isn't that much considering how much you just spent for the D1.
Yep, makes perfect sense! What is your model car that you put your D1 in? I just got the latest CNDV-60M East dvd and my neighbourhood which is about 5 years old is not on the maps. I did notice however that the 407 highway i
 23. Thanks cable guy for your feedback! :D
I purchased the D1 about 3 weeks ago along with the Pioneer GEX-P10XMT. Didn't even give a second thought to NOT having this unit. I chose the -P10XMT because I wanted the "cool" GUI (channel icons). The only thing I don't like is the 16 character artist / title display (minor quibble really). Make sure you DO NOT connect the data cable unless you subscribe to the NAVTRAFFIC service. Otherwise you'll get a constant "XM Updating" message popping up.
The NavTraffic service is not available here anyway....... I a
 24. Do you have a D1 and an XM radio and live in the Greater Toronto Area? I have a D1 and live in the GTA and am considering getting an XM radio - probably the GEX-P920XM and was wondering what other model everyone else has. How has your experience been with it? Is it worth it? Will you keep subscribing once your current subscription ends? 1. What brand/model XM radio do you have? 2. Is it worth it? Do you regret your decision to get one? 3. Will you renew your subscription once it expires? 4. How is the reception quality? I know it is not CD quality simply because t
 25.
Is this a firmware upgrade or just a content update ? I'm asking because I am downloading a copy of the -60MT disk and would like to try it out. If I do "install" it and it doesn't fully work can I go back to my old D1 disc or am I now stuck with the new software ?
Apparently it is supposed to be both a firmware and map upgrade. The map upgrades are mostly for the BC area. I have no idea what firmware upgrades it does. I haven't noticed any..... I installed this update on my D1 and have not noticed a map update - but then I hadn't used my original 1.0 d
