  1. Bummer! Thanks for the quick reply... Dave
  2. I'm considering upgrading my Z2 to a 90BT, and would like to know if by some miracle, I could use the same wiring harnesses that I have for my Z2. It would be great to be able to "plug-n-play" the new unit. I've been away from the forums for many months, and somehow missed the release of the entire F-series. I really like the looks of these new units. If they have the quick iPod controls of the D3 and better voice command, I am very excited... Dave
  3. I do this too, and you're right. Inverting the colors via Menu -> Map -> Day/Night display helps, but being able to "un-dim" the backlight would be much better. I agree with every single one of your points. Bravo! The only thing I would add is a dire need for improvement on the AV artist/song title screen. Specifically on the iPod. The order of Album, Artist and Song is the most ass-backwards thing I've ever seen. Am I the only person on earth that thinks the Artist should be at the top, and the song title should be underneath it? The album should be smaller and easily disti
  4. Yes, the bypass is already applied. Dave
  5. Nice work! Thanks for the info... Now if we could just find a way to pre-load the drive with music and not have to go through the painful process of ripping everything with the head unit! Dave
  6. That's great! I always disliked having to make my splash screen fit between those banners. What files did you modify/remove to get rid of them? Dave
  7. I just put another 400 miles on my new toshiba drive today, and it worked perfectly. I think it's safe to assume that the toshiba drives listed in this thread are the ones to go with... Dave
  8. Well, the unit still hasn't rebooted with the Toshiba MK6034GAX HDD. I put 2-3 hours of driving on it today, and no reboots. It was also very hot when I got in my car after work, and it started up just fine. I don't consider myself out of the woods just yet, but after a few more days of no reboots I'll be very satisfied. Dave
  9. Also, in response to some of your posts: The primary reason I replaced the drive was to fix the freezing on boot-up issue. The stock drive seems to tolerate very little heat. I don't care about expanding the library size (although I did anyway). We all have our reasons for upgrading. Hopefully the Toshibas are the answer to fixing the reboot issue. Dave
  10. Yes... It's running the bypassed Z2 image. Tomorrow should be a pretty good test, as I will be doing quite a bit of driving. So far it seems far more reliable than my Hitachi test drive. The Hitachi drive would power up and boot when the stock drive would not (heat), but the Hitachi drive rebooted. So far no reboots with the Toshiba 60GB. I expanded the music partition to 37GB as well. Dave
  11. I installed a Toshiba MK6034GAX (ordered a 4032GAX, but this is what arrived) this afternoon, and it's been over an hour without a reboot. I'll update more tomorrow. Dave
  12. Hitachi Travelstar HTS548040M9AT00 (40GB 5400 RPM) reboots around once every 45 minutes when driving. Dave
  13. I experienced the exact same thing (only reboots about once an hour with mine) with a Hitachi 5400 RPM drive. I'm waiting on the Toshiba 5400 RPM drive that was recommended in another thread. It should arrive early this week. I'll test that out and post my results. I agree that it seems like a power draw issue. Dave
  14. I'm very familiar with usenet, and I agree that this is the best way to go. I don't know why I didn't think of it in the beginning of the thread! Please make a post when you complete the upload, with information on what group it was posted in. I'd like to start d/ling it as soon as possible. I'd also be willing to contribute to the cause, if it costs you anything to post it. I know most of the usenet services a month to month, so at most it should cost you a month's membership to your favorite nntp service. Dave
  15. I was thinking of that, too. I just with I had a Z2 image so I didn't have to tamper with unlocking mine, in case I have to send it back for warranty work. Dave
  16. I'm also interested in a copy of this image... Dave
  17. Will they do any kind of cross-ship RMA? I'd rather not be driving clients around in my car with a huge hole in the dash. A crippled (powered-off) Z2 in the mean time would be much more favorable. Dave
  18. Well, the fan idea sure didn't work... Actually, it kept the unit quite a bit cooler, but apparently still not cool enough to boot consistently. I swear the outer case of the unit is at about 70-75F, and it still won't boot! It boots after it sits overnight, but it hasn't booted during the day for me in about a week. Dave
  19. I installed an 80mm computer case fan next to the radio tonight. We'll see if this improves anything. It's only wired to come on when the ignition is on, because I couldn't come up with an easy way to let it go 10-15 minutes after the ignition turned off. I'll report back in a few days and let you know what I find. Dave
  20. I haven't tried a sunshade... I've been considering tinting my windows anyway, and I'm sure that will help slightly with the in-car temps. The radio is low enough in the dash (and under several other things) that I don't think sun beating on the dash affects it as much as the overall temp in the car. I should try it, though... I notice it most often when I stop for a few minutes and get back in the car. It is almost always going to lock up in that scenario if it's over 80F outside and I'm not using the A/C. Dave
  21. I agree that it should work properly... However this problem has apparently existed since the Z1s and Pioneer has not offered any help. I don't expect them to suddenly come up with something in the next year, before my warranty is up. At this point this issue is frustrating me to the point where I'd gladly void my warranty if it fixed the issue. It affects me on a daily basis in the summer. I have a black car with black interior, which means it can take 15-20 minutes before a restart will actually get the unit to boot. Ridiculous. Dave
  22. Actually, on mine I cannot play music in the HD library. I can scroll through the sources with the remote, but it stops when I hit the library... I've also had the map only work at certain zoom levels (can't load map info except what's cached)... Maybe it has multiple modes of failure? I think it's absolutely ridiculous that I have to consider where I park at work on hot days, so I will be able to see navtraffic on the way home. Dave
  23. Does anyone know where the thermistor that measures the temperature of the unit is located? If we know where it was located, and what resistance value it thought was favorable (say 75F), we could easily replace it with a resistor of that same value. This would make the radio always think it was the same temperature. I'm a firm believer that it locks up because it thinks it's too hot, but not because it's actually too hot. I can drive my car for 2 hours, shut it off for 2 minutes while I get gas, and it will lock up when I turn it back on. If it worked for 2 hours at that temp, it must jus
  24. I just did thye update from Hyperite's download and instructions. My Z2 is an Apr 07 build. Can't remember if my software was Version 1. but now it's reading Ver 2. However, I couldn't tell if it updated or not because it never said one way or the other. After I inserted, it said CD-ROM inserted and nothing else. Checked Service Info in Settings and now says Ver 2. I don't have the 2-wire installed yet, so can't say it's bypassed. Any comments? Did you hit map, and answer yes to the update question? It goes through some gyrations that take about 10 minutes. if you didn't see
