Toshiba MK8032GAX No reboots in 2 weeks, over 3000 miles. It has been over 100F here, as well. No freezing, not any heat issue at all. I used Ghost to do a drive copy, using the "Image All" option, which copies even unpartitioned space. Maybe you guys should also discuss imaging tools that you use. It's my belief that the image write/rewrite is part of the problem.

OK, these instructions work really well. I have a few tidbits to add. First thing, set your drive to SECURITY OFF using MHDD. Second, use http://www.hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/ to get the password cracked. (Your drive will never again get locked by the AVIC) Third, clone your hard drive using a disk-to-disk (keeping MBR and extended partition data in "Image/Tape" options screen- use "Image Disk") using Norton Ghost 2003 from a GHOST FLOPPY BOOTED PC. Clone it to a new disk, that is, like a 5400RPM 80GB drive. I used

I picked up some high density female pins for RS232 (serial port), some 22 gauge solid wire and heat shrink tubing. Gonna try a permanent grounding tomorrow. I have successfully replaced the hard drive with 5400rpm with no lockups or reboots.

By the way. I unlocked my hard drive and now have 3-4 hard drives that I am testing. I am a computer science major in college and am pushing forward with various hacks on this unit. First thing I have to is find a hard drive that works without random reboots. I have tried 2 5400rpm drives so far, picking up 2 more today. Thanks to all the hard work of the various Z1/Z2 contributors. Hopefully, I can contribute more hacks for this very nice head unit.

Does anyone know what Pioneer harness the Z2 bypass socket uses? I would like to buy this harness. My installer did not do a good job of grounding the "cell phone mute" wire. I looked at the harness and, due to factory amp, NONE of the other wires on this harness were used. ONLY the bypass wire was even hooked up. So, for me, I have the option to just get a new harness and better secure the wire. For now, I slipped the mute wire directly on the terminal and taped it up, no harness at all. I found some pictures of pioneer harnesses at installer.com http://www.installer.com/wires/pioneerwire

It isn't installed yet, it's sitting here on my desk, so I have no power to the unit. I have time to mod it, but no power, so I was hoping to mess around with the drive mod. I want to add a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST980815A 80GB 5400 RPM Ambient Temperature Operating 0 to 60 degrees C Nonoperating -40 to 70 degrees C Shock Operating Shock (max) 350 Gs at 2 msec Nonoperating Shock (max) 800 Gs at 2 msec The Seagate also has slightly better specs than the Toshiba automotive drive

Do you need to remove the bezel around the LCD to get to the worm drive? Does anyone have pics of the worm drive or links to pics of power-off drive removal? I have a fresh, new June Z2 that I have not powered on yet. Please help. 33k!
