1. That's why I thought it was a Microsoft product :)
 2.
I pulled out the drive the other day to inspect what I would need to hook it to the PC. I went and picked up a 2.5" HDD to USB adapter. I will try it tonight and post my success or failure.
That might work, but I think it would be better to use one of these adapters http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812203012 And connect the laptop drive directly to the ATA cable in the PC. I'm not sure. Let us know if the USB thing works.
 3.
So my confusion this far: With the bypass/this circuit/whatever do you have to ground the brake wire? Do you need to do anything extra when using it or will it just work all the time? I tried to search through the now huge thread on this but it seems like different people are reporting different things.
If you ground it all the time, you will need to bypass the lockouts EVERY time you start the car. If you don't do the bypass one time and you try to do something like watch a dvd or something (with the parking brake grounded) then it will pop up that wa
 4.
Thank you, will give that a try tomorrow, as you have sirius you don't happen to know if there is a way of displaying signal on the pioneer do you? I mounted my antenna inside the car on the back shelf and I am trying to find the best spot for it? Thanks again Stuart
Displaying the signal strength? No I don't. But I ran the antenna to the outside and on top of my roof, so I didn't worry too much about it. I didn't see anything though.
 5.
Hi all Hope someone can please help me, I have installed a Sirius SIR-PNR1 in my car, I also have the IPOD CD-IB100II and the Sirius goes through the IPOD and then the IPOD connects to the Z1. Anyway my problem is with the sirius radio, the sound isn't very clear and makes the front left side speaker pop when I have it on a sirius channel, the front right doesnt sound like much is coming out of it either. I checked the PNR1 connections although can't get into the dash right now to check the IB100II to see if thats ok but I can't see why it wouldn't as the ipod pla
 6. Just to re-iterate (since I got a PM or two on this issue): My circuit will not actually flash your lights. Your headlights will not come on, your car won't know anything is hooked to it at all. I was calling it a "light flasher" not cause it actually flashes your lights, but it makes your head unit think you did. It does absolutely nothing to your car (other than draw about 5 miliamps of power, about the same amount an LED does in a remote control). When you first turn your car on, it will simulate the signal the head unit would normally see if you flashed your headlight
 7. My understanding is that this kit puts relays in between the parking brake and GPS antenna to basically "fool" the unit into thinking that there is no longer a GPS antenna and that you stopped and the parking brake is on. I think that the Z1 also uses accellerametors for gforce and turning and such. They probably added a check to see if you are moving with those as well. You can always flash your headlights or get a device to do it for you.
 8.
Ducatiboy, why not add a diode at the brain so the actual car lights won't even flash? The HU will be the only part get gets the 'flashed' input.
The headlights don't get "flashed". The "white" wire which goes to the car's wiring is a sense only wire (I designed the circuit to be very benign so it won't effect any of the car's systems with this installed). Nothing gets sent back into the car's electrical system. The orange wire from my circuit is the out line. I "fake" a headlight flash out on the orange wire, and after 10 seconds I "pass thought" wh
 9.
As for light flashing, generally the dimmer wire to the head unit is controlled by the parking lights, not the headlights, so you should be fine. But if it's a variable voltage dimmer wire or non 12v dimmer wire you may need some special components.
Yes, if turning on your parking lights turn on the lights on the inerrior buttons and dims the lights in the dash it should work. And yes you don't want to be flashing your HID's is not the best idea. You can do it a couple times to make sure it works and you like the way it is when it's bypassed. You can m

 12.
I have heard from a guy that the Z1 is linux based and did not know how to read the format. His windows computer could not read the drive, meaning the drive is not windows formatted. I suggested Knoppix but never heard back. Not sure how to get the drive out.
Actually I just tested it and if you open the front and turn off the car, the door stays open and the power does seem to shut off. It's obviously not compleately off, but it might be safe to pull it out.
 13.
Knoppix would also read the Z1's EXT2/3 format. Assuming of course that that HDD is EXT2/3. We know its not FAT or NTFS. So, linux's EXT is the only (major) one left.
How do we know this? I read a review that the Z1 was using windows for mobiles 5. It might not be true, but it's what I read somewhere, and seeing how long it takes to boot up, I would believe it's a windows product. I'm more worried about how to get it out, hit the eject button, open the front door, then do what? Just yank it? If you power off, I think it retracts. So you would hav
 14. Here are the instructions for the installation of the headlight flasher module. Is this easy to understand? Look simple enough? You might need to be registered to see the attached picture. Here it is spelled out: Connect the head unit exactly as described in your installation manual. Cut the line going to the illumination wire. Connect the white line from the head light flasher to the illumination line which came from the car. Connect the orange wire to the illumination line which is going to the head unit. Connect the red wire to the 12 Volt switched lin
 15.
Have you considered selling it as a board and parts kit, or board and part list for those of us good with building this type of thing? It might make things easier for you.... Bill
It would be easier for me, but at the moment would cost the same. So I don't know if anyone would want it. I'm probably going to have to bump up the price after these first 17 orders are done. The parts are all surface mount and very small (to get the size of this small, I was going for roubst not a low parts count). And there is a PIC with sepcial code, so a part list migh
 16.
Just placed my order, hopefully I'm one of the 17! I actually get my Z1 in a couple weeks so no rush. Hopefully the car shop will know what to do with it. They are aware of the lights trick so that's a plus. Thanks!
Well, you don't have to worry. I only have 17 set for this initial "prototype" run, but since this looks like it's more popular than 17 I'm planning on a second run. If you are one of the first 17 I will ship them out next week. If you want one and send me money and you miss the first 17 (so far I have 8 orders), worse case is that I wil
 17.
Hi Guys Any news on this topic? woudl ove to be able to dump mp3's directlly onto HD :)
The way it is stock, no you can't dump MP3's to the hard drive (while it is installed in the car). There is a theory that we can remove the hard drives out of the head units, hook them up to a PC and transfer directly. But so far no one (including myself) has had the guts to yank the drive out of their unit and try it.
 18.
i have heard that flashing the ill wire only holds it in safe mode/bypassed mode for 3 seconds so i wouldnt bother it at all anything else
That is not correct. If it's bypassed it's bypassed for at least 20-25 minutes (longest trip I have made after flashing the lights when turning on the car). I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't last till you turn the car off.
 19. Ok we already have had one person try to use a credit card to pay me for these. I thought I was clear in my post above. Please don't take this to be mean, and I don't want to come off as a schmuck either. So if it does I apologize. If you use paypal and try to use a credit card to get one of these (at this time) your payment will be denied by me. I'm not set up to take credit cards and if I upgrade to a business account it will cost me for every transfer and I'm not doing that at this time. I may some time in the future if this takes off.... but at this time, bank transfers only.
 20.
How big will the actual units be? as big as that red board? will they fit hidden behind the dash like a Tr7? thanks
Oh god no, it won't be that big. See all the white empty space on there? It's not that big. I'm going all surface mount parts except for the processor to keep the size down. The first run of boards are layed out and the end units are about 1 inch by 1 inch and will be about 1/2 inch thick.... give or take 1/4 inch or so. Should be easily hidden anywhere.
 21.
what color is that wire....how do i connect it? remember...massive newbie here. haha so i am assuming once i get that wire connected right, i can try the light switching again..? thanks so much for helping with my axiousness here guys....
I don't know exactly what color you on the truck's wiring harness, but it's orange coming out of the Z1. Here is what installer.com has for your truck http://www.installer-data.com/aacars/ca ... carid=2092 Did you (or your install
 22.
and my connection status says OFF next to illumination as well
Sounds like that wire is not hooked up. At least you can stop killing yourself trying to turn your headlights on and off.
 23. Updated July 3rd My online store and web site is all up. Shopping cart should work. I only ship Priority USPS right now. If you need something else please email me. http://www.sminntech.com Thanks!
 24.
ok..so i tried covering the light sensor on my F150 and did both the single and triple light switch method. Still doesnt work.... help?
I would try turning on the truck, let it fully come up, go to the main menu, settings, hardware and then connection. Cover your sensor and turn on and off the lights, make sure when you do the Illumination sections goes from low to high when you turn on your lights, and then back to low when you turn them off. Once you have verified that that connection is working and doing what you think its doing (illuminaiton hig
