1. I just had a June 2006 AVIC-Z1 installed this past Saturday and Ducatiboy's flasher worked as advertised. I couldn't be happier. My only problem is with my XM satellite radio with NavTraffic, and I don't think the flasher device had anything to do with that. It keeps telling me to check the antenna. The antenna has been checked and is connected.Everything else about the AVIC-Z1 works beautifully. I just wish I could get my satellite radio to work so I could see how that looks and sounds, as well as use the traffic features on my AVIC-Z1 too.
2. Finally got my AVIC-Z1 installed yesterday. Everything went really well. The shop installed my flasher unit. I got a June 2006 unit. So, Ducatiboy's flasher worked perfectly. I drove around all last night doing whatever I wanted to the AVIC-Z1. No lockouts. The installer seemed shocked that it worked and now might want to buy a bunch more. Are you looking for distributors Ducatiboy? :D I let the guy know (after the fact) that that was why I wanted a unit that was made before July. He looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for an older unit, but thanks to this forum, I knew what I was talk

Cheap TV tuner

I don't know, I may be in the minority here, but this is a luxury item. A nice to have if you will. Certainly not a necessity. At some point if you look to drop the price down too much, why not just walk into Wal-mart and buy a small portable B&W TV for $9.99? The kind with a 12V DC adapter and just plug that in and watch it while you wait in the parking lot. If you want an invisible integrated TV tuner that meshes well with the AVIC-Z1, then go with the real accessory. :D The MSRP of $349 is steep. I will admit that. However, you can find them for as little as $239 from reputable places from
4. Well, so far so good. I just got back from dropping off my SUV to have a whole bunch of stuff installed (including the AVIC-Z1). The shop opened at 9 and I was the first one there. I had an appointment for this morning. So, it didn't matter if others were there before me. Anyway, as soon as I saw the guy I asked him what the manufactured dates on the AVIC-Z1s that he had in stock were. He told me he would have to go check. I asked him if he had any that were manufactured before July 2006 that I wanted it. He came back with one that had June 2006 stamped on the side next to the serial. So, in 4
5. LOL!! I'm pimpin' huh? :D Yeah, I see your points. Again, I will be posting to let people know, come Saturday, if I am going to be annoyed or if I am going to have an unlocked AVIC-Z1. My fingers are definitely crossed.
6. ufd108, No offense taken. You guessed correctly. This will be my first foray into the world of GPS navigation. So, that was why I posted the question of what are we really missing? I truly do not know. I wanted to know if I was stressing myself out over something that, FOR ME, really would not matter. I had some disposable income and chose to spend it on what seemed to be the hot automotive gadget at the time. I'm 40. So, every now and then I just decide to have some fun and this head unit looked like something that would be a real cool item to have. I still contend that probably mor
7. That I do not know. Probably not. Sorry. :( For me it would be a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV. It seems like it would look pretty good considering that the low profile one would be right at about the roof rack bar level. So, from street level it would not even really be noticeable.
8. What are we really talking here? Is it mainly that we are losing the ability to watch DVD movies on the AVIC-Z1 unit itself up in the front seat while the car is moving, and the ability to change destinations on the fly? If those are the only two things that the bypass being disabled prevents us from doing, then maybe it is not so bad. I say this as someone who bought the DucatiBoy flasher but don't know yet if it will work for me since my car is scheduled to have the AVIC-Z1 installed this Friday. If you still have full access to the stereo features, XM or Sirius radio, nav traffic, phone (al
9. We need a new sticky. Similar to the one done for the blue tooth adapter and which cell phone worked with it (as far as uploading your contacts list). Well, I think we need a poll of who has a AVIC-Z1 along with the following information: What month was your Z1 manufactured? What vehicle is it installed in? Do you have anything extra added to your car (remote start, alarm, keyless entry)? Did you install the flasher yourself or did a shop do it? Do you have daytime running lights? Was your AVIC-Z1 made in China? Canada? Mexico? or the US? Was your AVIC-Z1 a r
10. A good low profile boomerang antenna might be better than the diversity antennas. However, sitting still always works better than moving. :(
11. Good question. I will be getting a Viper 5900 installed next Wednesday. So, I too, will have remote start (among other things). I would love to hear if there are things that will cause the flasher to not work.
12. How does the Z1 handle daytime running lights. I think I have finally found an installer here in Maryland that will install your flasher for me, but he's not sure if my vehicle will work with it. It's a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara XSport. There are 4 light modes to choose from (including an automatic mode). There are also fog lights to deal with. What things do we have to worry about in order to have your flasher work properly in that scenario?
13. Can you never use the emergency brake once you install the Ducati flasher? There are times (really you should always use your emergency brake and not just let the transmission do the work in park) when I want to pull up on the emergency brake when I park. Can I still do that and maintain functionality with the flasher? Can I do it if the installer does NOT connect the brake wire/cable?
14. When it comes to the AVIC-Z1, if you don't use a TR-7 or a Ducatiboy flasher, can you still drive around town and have the backseat passengers enjoy TV in the headrest monitors from the Pioneer GEX-P5700TV TV Tuner connected to the AVIC-Z1? Can the backseat passengers watch a DVD if you have one playing while driving? What about a front seat passenger that has a sunvisor monitor?
15. Thanks Lucky. I just PM'd you. Looking forward to getting this thing installed and getting the full use out of my AVIC-Z1. It would be going in a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara XSport.
16. We would all do well to not only let our opinions be known here, but to also write to Pioneer. I mean actually write an old fashioned letter on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. :D I find big corporations care more about those who take the time to write an old fashioned letter. I guess they figure that person is the type who could cause trouble and would not hesitate to get a campaign started against the company. It is waaaaay too easy to send an E-mail on a web page. So, those letters are not taken as seriously (in my humble opinion) as the ones that are snail-mailed.
17. Cool. Glad to see you weren't laughing at the man's loss, but rather at the how the thief's face was going to look when he/she discovered that the unit he/she stole is worthless without a drive. However, removing the drive everytime you leave the car is not practical. Not anymore than getting out of the car and removing the battery, siphoning all the gas out, removing the head unit, speakers, subs, amps, wires and antennas just to run into the grocery store to get a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. I feel bad for anyone installing an AVIC-Z1 in a convertible. Especially if they are the type
18. Thank bro. Recalling the story got me all pissed off again too.
19. If I had the time and/or the money, this sounds like a golden opportunity for someone to make a little bit of money here. Why don't one of you people with a lot of time and money on your hands, market this the way Ducatiboy marketed his headlight flasher. Seems simple enough to come up with a fake double din cover that would slip over the entire AVIC-Z1 and look like and old ugly ass radio with manual knobs and all sticking out. This is better than just hanging a plastic cover over. Again, crooks are not smart always. In fact there are undoubtably some crooks on the forum reading these posts a
20. What is the significance of 100MBs of data? I don't understand why a disc needs to have 100MBs on it. I know that it is true (many have confirmed this), but why if I just want to upload a 74k photo, must I create a CD that has 100MB+ of data on it? :D
21. Don't some screens come with headphone jacks? Why go wireless if the kid can just plug a headset into the jack and listen to the video? The distance between the front head rest and the back seat is not great enough to really be exploring wireless. Wireless makes more sense when dealing with a dropdown monitor from the ceiling of an SUB or MiniVan.
22. That is a GREAT idea. Best I have heard actually. Won't work with the places that won't install it unless you buy it from them, but it will work for all the other installers that maybe won't want to do the install, but would accept your box already purchased. Would a more experienced installer that has already done a few AVIC-Z1 installs notice the difference right away? What do you suppose would happen then?
23. z1abroad, I don't know how GReg learned of them being in or out ot stock, but for me it was as simple (if you live in the US) as going to www.circuitcity.com and entering in the model number AVIC-Z1. Based on your US zip code, it will bring up about 10 stores in your area. If that list is not big enough, you can ask it to look for more stores and it just keeps expanding outward (North, South, East and West). Being in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area, there are 42 Circuit City stores within a 100 mile radius of me. The good thing about l
24. I guess we need to know how much a repair generally costs. If someone can get an AVIC-Z1 for $1,200 shipped via some Internet site. Then the fact that you are covered under a warranty if you bought it from Crutchfield or Tweeter for $2,249.99 is not as important since you have saved $1,049.99. If nothing ever goes wrong with your AVIC-Z1, then that is a REAL savings. If something goes wrong with it and the cost to fix it is less than $1,049.99, then you are still coming out ahead. This whole formula is even worse if you buy it locally and have to pay taxes (5% here in Maryland). In my case, a
