my2002svt
Is the D3 a generally loud stereo? It seems that when I have the nav disc in, it is spinning every few seconds. It is definitely a mechanical sound, and I cant find a common situation that causes it. Is it possibly a defective stereo?
Dane186
Do you have the map on screen? Do you have a route set in the navi? Why dont you have the radio so loud you can even hear it?
04ctd
not sure how loud yours is mine is not THAT loud, but it does constantly spin whatever disc is in the drive. if it is navigating, it gets a bit louder. yours may be defective, or just dirty, maybe buy a cheapo drive cleaner? dunno if i would risk that in it, though. knight20
The D3 is always keeping track of your position, even if you don't have the map screen on. While you are moving about and your map is zoomed in to street level, the D3 is constantly updating the map, which means it is going to be accessing the Nav disc to update the info. HiFiSi
Give this a shot: If you're not using the nav, got to the map and zoom out as far as possible, then go back to whatever source you were using. With the map zoomed out all the way, it might not have to update the info as much.
HarmsWay
Could be a bad nav disk as well. CD's and DVD's are much noisier (mechanically) when they spin up if the disk is out of balance or warped. Stick other DVDs in and see how loud they are.
stx2006
Like the guy said above me, it could also be a dirty disk.
