xhanx
Well, looking thru this forum convinced me to buy the Z1. Installing in a 07 Tahoe. However, not being very good at electronics, decided to have it installed by a shop. I am having second thought about the shop. First, they can't locate the onstar/bose interface to install. have to wait a couple days to get it. Brought the car home and noticed that there was a couple wires still in the box. extension lead (for reverse signal) and extension lead (for speed signal). Also, the connector. Aren't they supposed to install these? Any input will be appreciated. TIA
DataAve
All I have to say, bud, is go with your gut feeling. Good luck!
tech10002
Go to the hardware screen and put your car in reverse. It will say if it's getting the reverse signal. The same is true of the speed signal. When you're moving, you should see a speed pulse signal on the hardware screen. It's possible they used their own wires for reverse and Vss. Hopefully if they did they at least had the sense to put the diodes inline.
Cirbirus
A couple of people have said they also didn't get a proper install and they had to pay upwards of $800 to get it installed. Screw that, if someone else can do something, you can do something. It may take you a lot longer but you'll probably do a better job than most shops... I know I did. I'd never installed anything in a car except maybe a few bags of groceries and now I'm installing Xboxes, amps, subwoofers, reverse cameras, etc. It also leaves you with a great sense of accomplishment. bongus
Sounds to me that your installer took some shortcuts. At least they were nice enough to leave the wires in the box. Some will take the wires out and make you think it was installed when it wasn't.
MitchellStang
When mine was installed I too thought they didn't run those wires, but all they did was run their own wires.
