chokies
ok so i had a d3 in my brand new car and it was stolen in about 3 weeks. now i think im going to try to replace it with a 700bt... and now a viper alarm anyway my question is... so my backup camera is still there from when it was attached to the d3. the rca plug was ripped off of the camera when the d3 was ripped out. can i just take any old rca cable i might have laying around and splice that in? id rather not have to drop another hundred on a camera if i can just use the existing wiring. also wouldnt mind not having to wire the backup camera. ive been trying to google and it seems like i might be able to but wanted to hear what some of you guys would think. i am in no way a car stereo expert. HiFiSi
Splicing coaxial (RCA) cables never works out very well. But it can't hurt to try. You've got nothing to lose.

I've made many cables as i own a home studio and it is often both cheaper, and you get a better cable making your own. Never had any problem with RCA cables. Just make sure you don't try to take an old cable with a molded plastic end and strip, you need to buy a new end you can actually solder to the existing wiring. Neutrik is a good source. Or, go to guitar center and buy "Live Wire" cables with metal connectors if you need something local.
