executioner
I want to install a switch to shut off the z2 without losing the memory. I want to make it inoperable when I take the car for service. Which wire should I put the switch on. Thanks

GnatGoSplat
Wouldn't it be easier just to pull the radio fuse? Maybe it's just my car, but the switched red wire has its own fuse separate from the memory wire.

I think it would be easier to just flip a switch than digging for a fuse.
GnatGoSplat
Maybe so, I change my own oil so I only have to bring my car in for service once every 2 yrs for safety inspection. From my POV, a fuse is a lot easier, especially since it's a PITA to install the switch if the HU is already installed... gotta dismantle the dash, pull the thing out, splice in the switch, find a place to put it, cram everything back in the dash... no fun at all. Not to mention resale can be affected if you've made modifications to the vehicle (i.e. hole drilled into the dash or console for a switch). I guess I can understand if you have your car serviced frequently.
garrettoomey
Just turn the volume all the way down, and press and hold the 'v' button to blank the screen. It will appear inoperable.
