Naylor07
I seem to be having an issue with my GPS all of a sudden. For some reason it will not track correctly a lot of the time and sometimes it will randomly work correctly. So I went into the system settings and watched the GPS antenna screen. Most of the time it is only locked on 2 Sat. and often it just loses all Sat. and all signal. Is this most likely an issue with my antenna? Should I just buy another antenna? Thanks in advance
garrettoomey
Check the positioning of your antenna, and be sure that it is attached to some type of metal base.
Naylor07
It is on top of the roof of the car.
Naylor07
so I reset the calibration, but now I get nothing basically. On the hardware screen it doesn't really pick up any antennas. I am going to pull the unit out and check the plug in.
Naylor07
I am still having some issues, I reset the sensor and now it just says intializing sensor and never gets off that. Also, one the hardware screen it sometimes says "excessive vibration". I am really at a loss here.
garrettoomey
Check the connection of the GPS antenna on the back of the Z. The next thing would be to replace the GPS antenna.
Naylor07
I decided to pull it out tonight in the cold cold weather, lol. The connection seems fine, I have already ordered a new antenna and I hope that will fix the issue. As for the vibration, maybe you guys can help me minimize the vibration, here is a picture of my install, it is on a 2000 528i, so it required hand made brackets. I tried putting some foam under thinking maybe that would help. Sorry for the quality, taken from my blackberry bold.
Naylor07
I am still having this issue. I replaced the antenna and still get nothing. It seems I get some sats locked and then they all-of-a-sudden disappear.
BossGt
Did you fix this? I have the exact same problem.
eatpoo
Did you fix this? I have the exact same problem. I was having this exact same problem. I thought that maybe the receiver had been damaged in a recent hail storm. But I followed the wire from the antenna and no less than a couple inches back from the rec. the wire is cut.... I'd start there. Go into the menu settings and check you connection. If its crap you know it has something to do with the antenna. G/L Dustin
Naylor07
I have replaced the antenna twice, but the gps now gets no signal and never moves from its current location. Any other ideas?
shane_l
Did you end up fixing this? I've recently started having trouble with mine, it won't pick up any satellites at all now. My aerial wasnt installed by myself, and seems to be buried deep in the dash, but I suspect that the aerial itself might be the problem.
garrettoomey
If the antenna is new and has a good connection, then it must be something internal in the headunit. No other settings to fix this...
Naylor07
Sadly, that is what I figured. Is it even worth attempting to get it repaired? I am just thinking about using it for what it is (all of the other functions still work) and just getting a separate GPS unit.
garrettoomey
It's still a great unit, and worth $200 to repair.
