Jason Bourne
Hi all, I am thinking of installing an AVIC (not decided which one yet) in a BMW 328 or 335 (still shopping). Has anybody done this? I suspect I need a custom dash kit, since the stock radio is trapezoidal and much wider than a 1DIN. Any help appreciated. Want to avoid having to build a car PC, that took too much time last time Thanks! -jB
thomasstudios
Impossible on both vehicles. I'm assuming you are talking E90? They are installing them on early model 3 series. With some fabrication and custom dash required.
AZFlyingDiver
Yep - E46 install is fairly involved (climate control relocation, cutting of air box and modding lower vent control lever, fabbing a mounting tray (or buying a kit), custom bezel...). Worth it, though!
Jason Bourne
I'm not worried about the bezel refab, as there are premade factory replacement bezels. I'm more worried about the Logic7 compatibility (i.e. lack of), meaning I can't remove the stock head unit without losing all sounds (this is what people are saying). I'd probably have to tap into the AUX of the system and constantly run everything on AUX - this is assuming the unit even supports that - but thereby losing iPod and USB connectivity. Ack... thomasstudios
As for many that I know that have early model e46's, no problems as long as you are following your vehicle specific schematics. E90's, forget it. There is no custom bezel for E90/92's. The E90's are a great step up than the factory stereo in e46's. I would keep an e92 factory throughout. Especially if you want to retain resale value.

Im looking at finding a shop to bring it in for me. Expensive Around $550 for the kit. here is the link: http://www.naviokun.com/text/techniq...mw_e90_01.html

Jason Bourne
Intersting kit, looks quite nice... however, in the notes below, it specifically states that it's NOT compatible with the BMW Professional (=Logic7?) audio system. I'm starting to think I should've either gotten iDrive or should NOT have gotten Logic7, hehe. [edit] Kit isn't for sale alone, either - only for sale with a navi system.
