silveradojeff
I was thinking about the tv tuner option. I think it would be awesome for tailgating, or waiting for my wife to do whetever it is she does when just has to "run into a sore for a second" and doesnt come out for 30 minutes. The gex 5700 seems great. I like the fact that you can control the tuner with the z1. There are many other brands out there that are about 200 bucks cheaper but then i am wondering how well you can control them. I mean i wonder if you have to use the aux inputs and control your channel surfing via remote only? Has anyone got of these installed? andone had more than one and can compare? I personally have never even seen a system with a tv tuner so i am also a little skeptical of quality of the picture. Any opinions.. who am i kidding, everyone has opinions. lol
jimmy303
Of all the tuners I have installed, (been an installer for 19 yrs.), the p5700tv is definitely one of the best. With most of the inexpensive tuners, when you are driving, the picture quality is going to change every foot or so that you drive. Imagine trying to watch football on a TV with rabbit-ear antennas duct-taped to your 5-year-old nephew after a double espresso and a king-size KitKat. It's much better with the Pioneer unit. sportsfan21
Consider buying it on eBay. They're about $230 shipped brand new. I bought the P7000, haven't gotten a chance yet to hook it up to my D2, but I've heard it will work with a little modification. I'll let you know about the picture quality once I get it hooked up. rapayn1
My opinion is that is is pretty good. Better when not moving, but in this Baltimore/Washington area, I get more than enough channels clear enough to say I got my money's worth. However, if you can afford it, I'd recommend the DirecTV option and get satellite tv in your vehicle.
dcmccabe
I agree with Jimmy303, the picture quality is pretty good. When moving you get "picture flicker". Some channels come in real good, others are "snowy". The antenna is attached to the back window of my Silverado. Is there a better antenna out there than one from Pioneer? One that doesn't advertise you have TV in the truck. Also, what is the DirectTV Option? I'm considering Sat TV for my 5th Wheel, but I haven't heard of anything for the truck. bdmpastx
This seems like a hot topic right now...here is another link where I posted some pictures. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2066 I forgot to mention this Direct Tv Sat in the car....but it will cost you the price of a Z1...lol http://www.kvh.com/AutoSatTV/ I wish that Pioneer would make an HD Tv tuner. The picture would be awesome.
jimmy303
Hmmmmm, HDTV is broadcast through the air for free, so I wonder if that it something on the horizon?
sibex
I've installed one on my car. Have not had a chance to test it on all of the chanels. It performs very well even inside a building/garage where my car is housed. From my experience installing these tuners (3 years), this is one of the best including the Panasonic. Well worth the money.
gazhalim
http://search.stores.ebay.com/gex-p5700 ... SQQxpufuZx Why are these price ranges so different? Also, will the gex p5700tv work in my Z1? I'm assuming so, but these descriptions on ebay do not list the z1 specifically. sl1234
The 5700 will work with the Z1. Check with pioneerelectronics.com http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 45,00.html I think this unit is a bit expensive. Has anyone consider other tuners on the market? Is it worth the extra bucks compared to other tuners on the market? Any installers out there who can comment on the differences? sportsfan21
The difference is that the Pioneer tuners can be controlled by the headunit and the others cannot. Look into getting a GEX-P7000TV on eBay. You can probably get one cheaper, and it will work on the Z1 (and N1/2/3 and D1/2) with a little bit of modification. Check the D1/2 forum for how to do this. It involves cutting into a AV bus cable and connecting on wire in it to a connector on the 7000 and two other wires into the RCA cable on the 7000. I did it this weekend and it was a pretty simple modification- only took me about 20 mins.
gazhalim
Thanks for the help guys! Which product do you think is better? GEX-P5700TV http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 45,00.html GEX-P7000TV http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 66,00.html Does the GEX-P7000TV come with an antenna? GnatGoSplat
I think they both use the same 4-input diversity tuner, so both will have equally good picture quality. Under IP-Bus control, they will also work identically. The 5700TV will install without modifications, just plug in and go. 7000TV needs a few mods because it's older and uses older style connectors. It's also larger so it might be harder to find a place to hide it. The 7000TV used to come with AN-G3 amplified antennas, but most I've seen for sale on eBay are missing antennas or other cables. The ONLY reason to get a 7000TV over the 5700TV is price. My 7000TV was only $49.99 BIN on eBay. I figured it was worthwhile to do some simple wiring to make it work rather than paying $200+ for the 5700. $200+ for an analog tuner just seems crazy.
