Camelot One
I've tried searching the forums, and I've turned up numerous posts about the IPod composite cable being required for video, but is it needed if I just want audio? My D3 was stolen last week, and the insurance company is replacing it with the AVIC-F900BT. But they are fighting me on replacing the ipod cable, which they consider an "un-mounted accessory" like the ipod itself. It looks like a standard USB plug that comes off of the F series, so can't I just plug in the normal ipod USB-only cable to get audio? Or will I need to shell out the $50 for the composite cable? CatchMeIfYouCan631
The USB part of the CD-IU230V is just for charging and allowing the iPod to be controlled through the User interface. The A/V wires are what transfers the sound, so yes you do need either the CD-IU230V or Apple's composite wire. Also be sure to go into AV settings and change AV1 to iPod. hedge
I wonder why they did it this way. With my other Pioneer deck it only needs the usb to get audio and fully control the ipod.

Why let people use the free cable that came with the ipod when you can charge $50?
LoadThis
what about getting a headphone jack cable to RCA's? This way you can pick up a cable which cost a few bucks, and you can then get audio...and no video. Ill try to find the cable online so you can get an idea of what im talkin about...but keep in mind the sound quality wont be as good. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SvGeF6oxQT ... Cable.html That is a more expensive cable, you can literly go to wall mart and find one for a few bucks im sure if you just want a quick fix, but...if im not mistakin, you wont be able to use the voice function to get songs and stuff. http://www.tss-radio.com/mini-aux-cable-p-3840.html or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ziplinq-Stereo- ... B000CCF9UM or that link...i think i saw a AUX imput on our HU, so you can use somting like that too.
Kirby692
I have not bought the Apple cable yet, but I was going to try using the USB cable that came with my ipod along with the 1/8" mini jack to composite AV cable to get audio and video out of my video ipod. I dont see why this wouldnt work.
brianas
one thing - be sure your ipod is compatible with the f series and cd-i230v cable connection, b4 buying the cableing it seems most older ipods are not compatible from pio web NOT Compatible > iPod (1G, 2G, 3G, 4G) > iPod Photo > iPod Mini (1G, 2G) > iPod Shuffle
Camelot One
Well the thief took my ipod too, though the insurance company won't cover it. My guess is any of the current models should work.
