poi in a diffrent state/city

I'm sure this has been covered, but I cant find it.

 

Is it possible to search for a POI in a different state? Lets say I'm in Maryland and need to find a Holiday Inn in South Carolina. Currently, the only options it gives me is to look for a POI in the immedate area or near my destination. What if i dont have a specific destination except that Holiday Inn in South Carolina?

 

I remember this being covered somewhere but I cant find the thread. Could you please point me out to it or just let me know if it can be done?

Check out the Progress Report thread in Hacks forum. I've posted a hack there that allows you to search for POI at an arbitrary address.

 

Otherwise, you could create a route to a city you're looking for, then search for POIs near destination...

Can you zoom out, pan to the city you want, zoom back in and then tap the screen in the location you want to get the cross hair and use the POI search? I've done this to look for restaurants in Indy and Chicago because I'm between the two city. Neither is too far, but the method should be same even if it's 5 states away.
