sinfulj32
so i installed my D3 the other day and everything went fine. everything was working perfect. last night all of a sudden all the sound went out except for my sub (running on a separate 2 channel). moments later the d3 threw up a caution screen saying to check my parking brake connection. so i tore everything down again to find everything was straight. my ACC wire was broke, but i reconnected and theres still no sound. theres no caution screen popup anymore, but there is still only my sub playing. it seemed it turned off right when i tried to use my new remote but that cant be possible. just a coincidence. im kinda scared the amp in the d3 is blown, but why would it just go out? i havent even been listening with high volume. please help. thanks in advance. sinfulj32
so i did some more searching and i found a thread. PostPosted: Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:02 pm Thanks for the tip. I ended up swallowing my pride and taking it to an audio shop. It ended up being the wires for my right rear speaker had wrapped around the speaker basket. A safety precaution for the D3 shuts off all power to the speakers if something is not grounded properly. Rolling Eyes so im gonna check from there. just thought if anyone had the same prob. this might be useful.
sinfulj32
seems to be a somewhat common prob. i found another avic member with the same issue. PostPosted: Thu Nov 20, 2008 5:50 pm just an update, sent it in for repair, came back said all was ok, no problems with the unit, hooked it back up no sound. After eliminated the HU, I went over the wiring all seemed ok. As I had replaced the from door speakers, I removed the panels and discovered one of the speaker connections was grounding out on the panel metal. Once I redid the connections and put padding insulation in, sound was back and all ok. Months of frustration all from this Mad again, this is just for reference if it happens to anyone else
CatchMeIfYouCan631
Sounds like you have a short in one of the speakers. Get a test light, put the alligator clip on a constant, and probe every speaker wire. if you find a wire that lights the tester up, that's the speaker with the short. sinfulj32
do you think the d3 will shut down sound if i hooked all the positive/ negative speaker wires with the black stripe being positive instead of negative?
CatchMeIfYouCan631
Well the one with the tracer is negative otherwise you'll be out of phase. the unit won't shut down the sound, it'll just cut out the sound if it senses a short.
bikerider
do you think the d3 will shut down sound if i hooked all the positive/ negative speaker wires with the black stripe being positive instead of negative? No. It might sound bad but it should still play. bmatlock00
Need a little more info, are you useing a regular wiring harness for the D3, or are you using some kind of interface for a factory amp, or onstar? What kind of car is it in?
sinfulj32
so it took forever to find what was wrong a couple days ago. but i did find that somewhere in between my front speaker and the deck there was a short somewhere in the stock wiring. i did not want to try and find exactly where it was so i ran new wires. all is good now as far as that goes...
