Mark L. Warner
I have an AVIC Z1 installed (by a shop) in my '04 VW Touareg. The shop has been completely useless (and obnoxious) in terms of helping me with the bypass procedure from Simmentech. I am going to have to do it myself. But I need some step by step help in terms of getting it back out without destroying my dash. Once it is out, I'm pretty sure I can handle the wiring. I couldn't find a removal tool in the box it came in, so if it came with one then the shop still has it. Any tips?
sportsfan21
If someone can't give you instructions on how to take your dash apart (very doubtful), call the shop up again and ask them if they can just do you a favor and remove the dash panel. If they won't, ask them how to do it, and if they won't tell you that, then you just have a crappy shop.
howarmat
I would go to crutchfield and get the mastersheet for your vehicle. That will walk you through the process.

Mark L. Warner
Great idea but no Mastersheet for '04 Touareg. any other ideas? Does Pioneer have such a sheet?
cntrylvr79
no pioneer won't have information like that. Can you take a picture of the z1 installed in your truck? The factory radio comes out with special keys. Odds are the shop that did the install may have used a cage to mount it. Might be able to help you out if you can get me a pic of the z1 installed. cntrylvr79
Ok from what I can see there you can try this. The piece that surrounds the z1 is just a plastic trim that comes with it. You can try pulling the piece I circled off. They might have glued it down so be carefull. Once that's off, if they did use a cage, you'll probably see 4 small phillips head screws on each side. You'll need a jewelers screwdriver to get those out. Once those are out you should be able to slide the z1 out. Mark L. Warner
Thanks for your input my friend. I will try that - hopefully over the weekend. so how's the weather up there? I used to live/work up that way. Lived in Princeton and worked partly in Piscataway and partly in Manhattan. Moved to Bimingham, AL about 14 1/2 years ago and moved to Tuscaloosa AL (where the University of Alabama is) about 6 years ago and I love it down here! Still have alot of family in NY, NJ, and PA. Thanks again for the help, I will post again once I try to get it out.
