docluv01
I do not believe this is possible... I have tried numerous different ways. I have evn tried burning mp3 dvd's, but the unit would not see them as valid discs. Until they hack the HD, the only way to get songs on t eh hd is by "recording" them from an audio cd. Jimmy05
You can rip a cd -r onto the z1. I have did it a couple times already. I used nero to burn one cd and the other one was just a cd someone let me hold. So it can be done.
tridentnyc
What about "copying" not "ripping" a cd-r to the hdd? What I mean is, if I load a data cd-r that is filled with a hundred or so mp3 files..will this copy to the hard drive or can the Z1 only "rip" audio discs to the hdd? If that is the case, can the user set bit rate? Thanks.

The ONLY option is to "rip" an original CD. With that said I have ripped cdr (copied originals) as well. The manual says you're not suppose to be able to do that, so I';m not sure how it determines if it's an "original" or not.
SickRick
Sure you can record CD-R's, that are AUDIO discs - not mp3 discs. I only listen to live CD's that I've recorded at concerts and mastered to CD-R. Works just fine. What they're talking about is CD-R's with the copyprotect bit set (SCMS). Most computer based software ignores or resets the SCMS bit to 0. Standalone (consumer) CD Recorders that are used to copy CD's usually set the SCMS bit to 1 - prohibiting further copies to be made.
