smarsh
Hi, i just added a new 4 channel Alpine Digital Amp to the Z1..... any way to turn-off the internal amp? For a VERY $$$$ system, the Z1 sure lacks in adjustability! Sam
sportsfan21
I think you need to use the RCA preouts on the wire harness. That bypasses the internal amp.
cntrylvr79
There is no way to disable the internal amp on the z1 or any of the avics for that matter.

I always though that those RCA pre-outs bypassed the internal amp? If they don't, then what are they there for?
tillithz
rca's are "pre-outs" meaning its pre amp, meaning you arent going through the decks amp..... There is no need to "disable" the amp, if you arent using the speaker level which is the amp'd signal then you dont need to worry about the amp at all
Termist
Ok. IS there a huge difference between high level and low level inputs? I don't know for sure yet, but I just bought new RCA harness for my N1. Hoping it'll cure the malfunction I'm having. So, would it be okay to run my Zapco amps on high level inputs? TIA. tillithz
you would want to use the rca's they are theoretically cleaner.... the amp in the head unit is really not the best, I mean, contained in the head unit it is also a 50X4 watt amp, compare that to your 50X4 zapco or whatever amp. whtcrxghst
Don't high level your Zapco. For a high-end amp like that, go out and buy some decent or better RCA cables and it will sound FAR better than the high level route

I may have "toasted" my preouts while doing the N1 bypass. So, I'm not sure if it'll be possible to use them anymore. Don't high level your Zapco. I'm running medium grade RCA cables, that I bought from Circuit City. Eventually when the time comes, I'll run a Symbilink Balanced Line Transmitter. I've heard it's susposed to make a world of a difference. Especially with my ads components. I'll find out Friday, and will let you guys know.
smarsh
yes, the line-outs bypass the internal amp..... but, on *most* head units i have had you have the ability to simply turn-off the internal amp... not simply bypass it...... granted, having no load on the lines out of the internal amp effectively causes it to suck little juice.... i would still prefer to turn it off all together to reduce heat (and sucking electrons too!) whtcrxghst
Using the preouts on Pioneer decks does not bypass the speaker-level outputs, they are still active all the time. That being said, if you just tape them off, they will pull barely any power from your system
tillithz
Sorry I dont know of any decks that you can turn the speaker level outs off on.
whtcrxghst
In the Pioneer line, I know you can turn the amp off on the Premier DEHP880PRS. Other brands do it too on the high sound quality models
tillithz
wow thats neat. wounder if it really translates into performance improvement
apeters89
wow thats neat. wounder if it really translates into performance improvement it'll technically reduce electrical interference. Probably nothing that you would be able to hear with the human ear.
