Azentek squeezes a fully functional computer in your dash

Azentek’s Atlas CPC-1000 is the size of a typical seven-inch navigation screen. It takes up the same in-dash depth as a standard car audio system, too. But packed into that space is a fully functional personal computer; it’s a device that replaces systems for navigation, audio, video, communications and e-mail, with engine- and car-performance monitoring in one compact box. Wowzers. Hook up peripherals like a keyboard and a mouse and you can run an entire office from the driver’s seat. Though most functions are suspended when driving, the Atlas CPC-1000 allows for, among other computing functions, real-time e-mail via voice-recognition software. It can store and run music and movies for the entire car or each passenger separately. The coolest feature: Built-in software to record 0-to-60-mph and quarter-mile times. Atlas, running Microsoft’s next-gen operating system Windows Vista, goes on sale next spring for about $2,000, installed. For more info, go to www.azentek.com.

  • 9 months later...

Just wanted to bump this thread, as I'm wondering if anyone has picked this up yet. It's either out already or will be available VERY soon.

One thing about this unit I found out about is, it doesn't have REAL iPod control. It's a pc, so if you want iPod control you need to load iTunes onto it like you would a regular pc and then control it like that. Kinda weak :?
